In Dutch you rarely use weird symbols.
The French é is written as ee. The French á is written as aa. Etc.

For a stupid reason. When there'a "^" it's because in old French there was a "s" which was taken off to facilitate the prononciation.
For example, we write "forêt" that we pronounce "foret" because in the Middle Age we wrote "forest" that we pronounced "forest".
We should just abandon the "^", they are useless, because they have no incidence on prononciation.
