We're not talking about previous empires nor races, but if you want to include races and cultures you must know that mayans were basically nonexistent in Costa Rica and their main indigenous tribe were Chibchan just like in Panama or here, that's why Costa RIcan are so phisically similar to us and share our same accent. You might have a good point about the Chibcha in Costa Rica except that Guatemala aside most Central Americans deny their Amerindian roots as strongly as Argentines. And no I didn't bring up the race thing here Reality is countries are what they are, we have a real sphere of influence in not just Central America, but extending into the US, based on actual shared culture (food, music, etc.) you on the other hand have a country that's divided in between those (Caribean, Andean) but are not the cultural center. Meanwhile, Panamanians, Costa Ricans, Venezuelans 1.(to the point of receiving 1+ million immigrants in the last 2 years) 2.(except their government sympathizers), Ecuadorians and Caribbeans all hold us in high regard. The only country which really hate us on this continent is Chile, and we don't even care because they don't have an influence in our economy or culture (or in the whole continent for that matter) and cuban culture (racial and culture wise) is miles more similar to ours than to yours unless you want to delude yourself
