I have technically been studying Chinese since around 2010, although I have paused my studies a couple times. I've had the privilege of studying in quite a few different places in the US and China.
I think a good thing for beginners to do is definitely emphasize tones in the beginning. Too many beginners get intimidated by tones and thus become lazy and either half-ass it or don't try to use tones at all. IF you have a good foundation with tones, then when you progress to intermediate and higher levels it makes it easier.
Immersion is always a good idea as long as you're diligent enough.
Do not discount the importance of grammar. Lazy students like to say Chinese has "no grammar" but that's a falsehood through and through. Although in my opinion, Mandarin grammar is relatively simple without conjugations and what not.
why dont chinese youth just learn english so they can interact with the international community instead of us learning chinese

I always liked languages and wanted to be an English teacher when I was younger. But I fell for the STEM meme and ended up with a master's degree in Biochemistry. I worked for a couple of months in a lab and it was so boring, I don't want to do this at all. I've been studying Chinese by myself for over a year now, and even tho I'm far away from being able to converse in Chinese, I'm pretty confident I can make a lot of progress given enough time.

2.no if you don't need high income (in china) and a really formal job in international schools or something. you'd better check the average income in china
