Why are Americans against giving free university education to everyone?
Why are Americans against giving free university education to everyone?
freedom isn't free
America doesnt even know what college is.
>free
>free university
>free
"free" if you are poor
Why are public restrooms not free in Europe?
C*pitalism
Brazil public education is shit and expensive for taxpayers
>Paid by taxpayers
ftfy
Freedom ain't free
Supply and demand.
>Brazil public education is shit
The best of the coutry by a fair margin
upvoted!!!
Better that taxes go towards College rather than the military industrial complex
I love arguing the semantic difference between gratuitous and free!!!!!
>free
>college is "free" and all it costs me is 20% higher taxes for the rest of my life
where do I sign up?
Honestly though, Americans are fucking retards for paying that much for university and student loans.
You know, graduating from x university doesn't guarantee shit.
At the end of the day, they'll hire people who are skilled and needed, not because they have a diploma shinier than others.
>But BROWN PEOPLE WANT TO BLOW ME UP!!! we NEED to spend $600B (on arming islamists that blow us up)!!!
Fucking Amerisharts
How much of that budget is spent trying to maintain an a presence around the world?
i.e. how much of that is used to project military might and influence internationally?
Most interesting part about American higher education:
>They have a curve for everything. You can fuck up in the final and even can pass the course relative good. In EU you either pass with one exam or you are fucked.
>They have sometimes multiple choice and just get problem sets in the exams from their "book"; which is an whole topic on it's own.
>Universities are shilling for books which they have a contract with; the students gotta pay up few hundred dollars PER BOOK.
>In STEM, most US Universities have in fourth year what most German people have f.e. already covered in high school or in the first two semesters of their University education, on a deeper level.
>People pay for their education there: Basically that invites Universities to lower the requirements and the pass bar so they will make more money -> reduction of quality education
>Just notorious for their research since they import most of the researchers.
Chinks, Europeans, you call it. If they say "We numbah #1 in education!!" and refer to the research and reputation of some Universities, it's basically ridden on the back of foreign academics.
t. German, experience on at an """ Ivy League Uni"" for the exchange semester.
"""""""""""""""""free""""""""""""""""""
also, apezilian public universities are disgusting marxist indoctrination camps.
>i.e. how much of it is spent on killing civilians and corrupting 3rd world governments while screwing over its own people
Probably all of it.
wtf i hate amerikkka now!!!
Like maybe a quarter, truth be told.
The military spends most of its budget on stupid projects and fuel for flying/driving around in circles.
>instead I'd rather be 300k in debt long before even getting a job! hopefully I don't regret my choice of education a few years down the line or my life is ruined!
Free education is an investment of tax payer money that easily pays back its cost in greater tax revenue from a more competitive and valuable work force with higher incomes. Public finances are strengthened, corporations become more competitive and the citizen becomes wealthier. It's an investment you'd have to be retarded not to make.
>20% higher taxes for free college
>20%
This is why you need free college so you can learn how math works.
It was a good effort, I'll give you that. Here's one from me.
don't larp like this, impressionable bra/int/lets will believe you
He's right though (except the last point desu). Stop being so butthurt and get America's dick out of your mouth.
I thank Mexican taxpayers for letting me attend school for nothing
Kek, damage control.
The harsh truth is, it's all true. I see no arguments from either one of you Burgers.
Back to Facebook, subhuman nazipardo scum.
...
Not him, and I do think that having higher public education is a reasonable investment to have a more educated populace.
But you have to consider our society and culture. There are a lot of dumb fucks and nigs here. There's even a sort of chad-nerd thing were being smarter isn't viewed as cool in some places or circles. We just don't have an academic culture or as much as an academic culture as Western Europe does.
I think America has more of a celebrity focused thing going on, which doesn't help.
So in the end, I can see why there are people who wouldn't want to be taxed extra to help make college "free". It can get pretty discouraging when you go to a local walmart or go in the hood and see the state of things.
Which is lame since I know there are some people who could use "free" university who are willing to put in the work and then pay back or contribute back to society.
...
I don't understand your point. Are you afraid that unfit people will get into higher education more easily if it's made gratuitous with government assistant? That's what entrance exams are for. 4000 people apply to study law in the university of helsinki and only 15-20% get in. The best get to become lawyers and the rest have to eat shit. Sounds like it would fit perfectly in with american culture.
...
Maybe they don't feel like paying over half their income in taxes.
Read the thread faggot. We can stop spending so much on military to pay for college.
I believe the current american system is "if you can apply and pay, you can attend" which usually means "if you can get in debt, you can attend".
Which is the usual for a society like this. If I have money, I should be able to send my kids to college, and teachers should be the one that make him succeed. They're paid for that after all.
That's not a system without logic, but it's a different one that we have here(since the accessibility to education was much more gradual in Europe), but it's a system with limits, and clearly, modern US college really went passed them
Because have entire generations of peope with studies and former education doesn't pay back for the country and the local economy, right?
You are saying it's a bad thing, while anyway you don't need to have really good education for most jobs, so giving so-so education to students won't change shit.
The only relevant things are whether or not your researchers are amongst the best and whether or not you have a shitload of money to finance research and by those metrics the us is the best.
what kind of bullshit crap is this, it is definitely not free here outside of some meme situations
But in doing so you remove yourself from the position you're currently in.
Also, allowing education openly to everyone reduces the worth of the degrees, as it has here and every other country where education is "free".
Not only that, but what are you going to do when the majority of the populace is educated and won't settle for those jobs?
That's not the issue faggot. They waste their money on their military industrial complex
>paying taxes
All those stats don't have any relationship with college m8
You and I both know that not everyone's going to college if it was free. Most won't even make it in if they wanted to. You guys are trying to hard to find excuses.
Depressing.
Because the American dream is to become rich fast, but on the other hand that means becoming poor fast.
Not true, you have to have a certain gpa and sat to get into x college
kek. american degrees are bought, not earned. all it takes is willingness to go into debt to get one and that's why they're already minimum requirement for most jobs.
you sound like an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about.
Yes it does
this discussion is about getting into higher education, not into specific colleges.
the fact that a degree can be completely worthless if you graduate from the wrong university in america is it's own discussion and mockery subject.
You know that there are things called grades, if you have bad grades, you will fail even if you are rich.
>the fact that a degree can be completely worthless if you graduate from the wrong university in america is it's own discussion and mockery subject.
What a surprise, a Finn's entire argument is based on dumb memes.
>waste
That's relative. It guarantees them a position at the top and enforces the petrodollar, which is basically their economy.
Of course not, but it still removes a fairly big amount of people from the population that would've otherwise taken those job due to lack of education.
Hell, you already have free college. It's not my fault you're too much of a dumbass to join the airforce, get a deskjob and go to college on the military's paycheck.
>bought
>not earned
>you sound like an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about
Actually, you do.
You see, when you earn money, you can buy something.
Also, see above about how to get free college in the US.
I was talking about the pisa thing and that pic puts America in a good place.
All universities have a minimum and any degree from a stem school gets you a job in america.
Russia isn't free too
Free =/= Public
No. What most conservatives think here is that paying for uni will subsidize some dumbass or bitch's pointless, and shitty behavioral science, psychology, philosophy, social work, or other liberal arts degree.
that, and some believe that universities are some sort of liberal breeding ground or some other silly shit.
It doesn't help that libs here have an image among some conservatives that they go for those kinds of useless degrees and they are the ones who are mainly peddling the idea of "free" college. I don't agree with the stereotype, but that's how it is.
But you bring up a good point. You could just make it so it isn't open enrollment or so there's an entrance exam to weed out the stupid, naive, unmotivated, and the weak ones. I think that sort of meritocratic and competitive structure would work pretty well if reasonable.
Consider though, that in lower public education here, standards have been increasingly lowered and quality of education is stagnates as well. The overall standards are just pulled back so the failure rate or the number of people being held back another year is decreased.
You are so stupid you that you can't understand how stupid you are.
Im not him but he is not wrong. The finn is too ignorant. Usa has very low unemployment rates for bachelor degree holders. You can get a job with almost any degree from any schools besides some few meme degree
>There's even a sort of chad-nerd thing were being smarter isn't viewed as cool in some places or circles
In Germany it's also cool if you tell people that you "never undestood math when I went to school lol"
That doesn't stop people from giving the children of economically disadvantaged parents the opportunity to receive higher educaiton
t. M.Sc. student with poor parents who will be massively loaded and well-off in no time
>Lithuania
>MUH TAXES
Free doesn't mean it's good
>paying for uni will subsidize some dumbass or bitch's pointless, and shitty behavioral science, psychology, philosophy, social work, or other liberal arts degree.
There's literally nothing wrong with that, because only a caveman thinks higher education should be solely a financial enterprise.
t. M.Sc. IT
I guess, all I can say is that the american mentality towards education comes across as completely alien from time to time.
Getting ripped off doesn't mean it's good.
also free healthcare
>free*
*If you have (rich) parents and/or get a "credit" from the state, which you have to pay back.
The attitude about most things on the american right is "i'll cut my arm off if it triggers the libs"
that is in no way new or just an online thing, the trump kids here jumped onto something that was real and had power in this country and he would have won without them
Is grade inflation a thing in the US?
Why do Yanks hate education?
Yes. 78% can be an A.
test
1)Countries here seem cherry picked.
2) There is no such thing as """""free college""""". I GUARANTEE someone is paying the professors and administrators in Brazil, Chile, Finland, etc.
3) Professors and colleges in general take a TON of money and the US govt (via loans) get a TON of money too from students. Who wants to sacrifice money to give more to spoiled upper middle class college kids?? Not colleges and not the govt.
"the more uneducated, the more manipulated"
>education is a sacrifice
>education is only for the upper middle class
What's wrong with Americans?
1. Nope
2. Taxes pay for it. USA has enough money to pay but you choose to give money to your top 1% and the military.
3. University is for everyone, not just the rich
Paying money is always a sacrifice. You want to pay money for some college kid to go to school? It will be a sacrifice, guaranteed.
And yes, the fact that our K-12 is so messed up means that lower class kids get fucked long before they hit 18. Lets focus on fixing K-12 first. Then worry about handouts for the rich/middle class.
1) Yep. There are 200+ nations on earth, why does this graphic cherry pick those 8?
2) Taxes cost money and aren't free. Yes, we spend a lot on the military (not really the 1% unless you are counting tax deductibles which are offset by our huge corporate tax rate). But that doesn't make it okay to spend big on colleges.
3) Nah. Working class people often were already failed by K-12. Its 100% a handout to the rich and the middle class, otherwise make free college for poor kids only.
And you didn't address the tons and tons of money the US govt would lose by turning a source of income (student loans) to an income drain (""""""""""""""free"""""""""""" college for all including rich kids)
I think college should be free (of charge) but only for engineering, law and medicine. Others can fuck off.
>You want to pay money
No, I want to invest in an increasingly educated society that will pay dividends to myself and posterity in the form of a safer, more productive, more innovative, and better informed workforce at all levels.
>giving scholar to foreigner
>asking payment for your own citizen
america everyone
>make university free
>suddenly there is a huge surplus of educators and administrators
>with so many only the best teachers and adminstators can keep jobs
>now they can solve the K-12 system
You don't fix problems in lower education by restricting access to higher education.
I'm against it because it would be nothing more than a tax increase on me. My parents paid for much of mine, while I paid and bit and the government paid most. I'll already be paying taxes to fund the pell grant and it's fine where it is. Don't need too many people going to college anyways and devaluing degrees further.
>devaluing degrees
This is why your country has to import smart people from India and China
>devaluing degrees
In America it is about money and not about your skills?
Most educated jobs in USA are totally flooded.
K-12 is unionized you can;t make it so "only the best teachers keep their jobs"
wh*Tes shouldn't be allowed an education, it is a waste of resources
They ""import people"" to save money because Indians/Chinese work for cheaper.
Sort of? You want to use your skills to make money. Thats how the world turns. Skills alone don't put food on the table or a roof over your head (unless you are skilled in farming or roofing I guess). Money does. Nuff said.
>There are a lot of dumb fucks and nigs here
DUDE I HATE BLACK PEOPLE SO WE SHOULD ALL SUFFER SO THEY SUFFER MORE AS WELL
What the h-ck is wrong with Americans?
>chile
>free
>Chile
>Free
REEEEEEEEEEEEE
I suspect this is because they tend not to let Nigerians in unless they have a professional skillset.
>wh*Tes literally can't compete
KARA BOGA is taking shape in real life now
