Another thing I say is, if you go--after a film, withholding abstractions--to a coffee place--having coffee with your friends, someone will say something, and immediately you'll say “No, no, no, no, that's not what that was about.” You know? “This is what it was about.” And so many things come out, it's surprising. So you do know. For yourself. And what you know is valid.”

Just because he puts abstract ideas he got from dreams or drugs doesn't mean there isn't any structure or meaning at all to what it does. On the very base level, Twin Peaks used to be a satire of the golden picture painted of the 50s and the ugliness that hid underneath, which in this season turned into the cold grimy reality shitting all over that ideal we used to hold.
As for the story-level, it cannot be any clearer that he's been sitting on this for decades and that he has it all figured out.
As for what I believe are some of his truly abstract ideas this season, Coop on that cube in space is probably one of them, but it still holds meaning.
