I did the numbers. Hawks and Lang are tied for my favorite director. Welles, Hitchcock, and Ford right behind them. Johnnie To leapfrogged past Anthony Mann and Buster Keaton to make my Top Ten.

I need to know a single thing any of these names did that Griffith, Brown, King, Cruze, Borzage, Ince, Vidor, and Stroheim didn't already do
>83275872 Intolerance>A Brighter Summer Day Flesh and Fantasy+A Woman's Face+Scotland Yard>Face of Another The Goose Woman>Certain Women One Exciting Night>Jeanne Dielman
Isaac Butler
Gone With the Wind has better matte paintings. Better directors too. Vctor Fleming+George Cukor+Raoul Walsh>Nicholas Ray
Intolerance>A Brighter Summer Day Flesh and Fantasy+A Woman's Face+Scotland Yard>Face of Another The Goose Woman>Certain Women One Exciting Night>Jeanne Dielman
Also, checked your watched films and saw you the only silent film you've seen was Battleship Potemkin, Criterionbabby. Doubt you knew Stroheim already did intellectual montage in 1919.

>plot for The Cook, The Thief, The Wife, and His Lover English gangster Albert Spica has taken over the high-class Le Hollandais Restaurant, run by French chef Richard Boarst. Spica makes nightly appearances at the restaurant with his retinue of thugs. His oafish behavior causes frequent confrontations with the staff and his own customers, whose patronage he loses, but whose money he seems not to miss. Forced to accompany Spica is his reluctant, well-bred wife, Georgina, who soon catches the eye of a quiet regular at the restaurant, bookshop owner Michael. Under her husband's nose, Georgina carries on an affair with Michael with the help of the restaurant staff. Ultimately Spica learns of the affair, forcing Georgina to hide out at Michael's book depository. Boarst sends food to Georgina through his young employee Pup, a boy soprano who sings while working. Spica tortures the boy before finding the bookstore's location written in a book the boy is carrying. Spica's men storm Michael's bookshop while Georgina is visiting the boy in hospital. They torture Michael to death by force-feeding him pages from his books. Georgina discovers his body when she returns. Overcome with rage and grief, she begs Boarst to cook Michael's body, and he eventually complies. Together with all the people that Spica wronged throughout the film, Georgina confronts her husband finally at the restaurant and forces him at gunpoint to eat a mouthful of Michael's cooked body. Spica obeys, gagging. Georgina then shoots him in the head, calling him a cannibal.
Why do you make flicks that are illustrated text
Noah Lee
Montage cannot evolve past accelerated montage, parallel montage, and montage-by-attraction. Content does not change the form, and all already formally peaked by the late 20's.
Brandon Wood

"i found them visually pedantic. both had pretty great screenplays, but that doesn't matter much when they're so boring to look at. to paraphrase someone smarter and funnier than i am, In a Lonely Place would be great if film weren't a visual medium." -steakbro

Jayden Walker
>Griffith's by no means comparable to Eisenstein, but certainly the stupid man who introduced notions of narrative into cinema, which is the worst possible thing he could have done, could be said to be responsible for the origins of American Cinema.
James Gonzalez
27amdi34, do you watch anything that's not on youtube or a list. You're probably to gangly and disgusting to show yourself at a museum or library
Isaac Mitchell
Griffith introduced visual poetry not narrative. Griffith didn't use scripts

Why did you watch True Heart Susie over A Romance of Happy Valley or The Greatest Question in Life
Is it because you're incapable of watching anything that's not on TSPDT
Why didn't you watch Isn't Life Wonderful or Dream Street
Why did you give True Heart Susie 4 stars
Why did you conveniently watch True Heart Susie after the past couple of Griffith-centric threads

They did the exact same thing formally and content-wise better before the latter were released. Ergo, you're a shit-taste having pseud with no knowledge of the history of the medium, can only regurgitate what a list tells you to think.

Eli Diaz
There are over 300 million films in existence with most of those being released before 1940. Get better taste. And if a single film from a list is found on your watch history in the future, make sure to be exposed and mocked for eternity.
If you can't see how any of those films mentioned are better, you're a lost cause. Can't fix shit taste.
Kayden Flores
ad hominem
Owen Sanders
Also, you're asking for an explanation of why the films mentioned are better, but you have no intelligent reviews on your profile and more than likely couldn't explain why any of your favorites are good beyond that they featured relatable self-inserted characters for you and they were featured on an aggregated list therefore couldn't even find them on your own. You not only have irreparable shit taste and lack independent thought, but you also don't know anything theoretically relative to a medium you spend so much time consuming. You're a triple pleb.
