The first prequel episode kept the huge world of course, but already there were no characters. And in Episode 2 there was no plot. By Episode 3, you only had a few set pieces that fall flat if you've watched any of the preceding material.

The truth is the that despite the prequels being garbage films when it comes to script work and some questionable CGI, they were more original and had far more time spent on them in production that TFA and Rogue One, and it shows.

The prequels beat NuStar Wars in unique space ships and situations. TFA reads like fanfiction A New Hope and Rogue One is a 12 year old attempting to write Apocalypse Now.

No you fucking dummy. I watched the phantom menace opening weekend. I had waited 16 years for a new star wars movie. I walked out realizing it was more howard the duck than star wars. Star wars was good despite george lucas, not because of him. He was allowed free reign, and it showed.
