It would be English just with characters, we would adapt our words to characters, make a system for showing grammatical features with characters much like the Japs and Gooks did.

We could just use characters to show plurals, and other things that Chinese doesn't have. So it wouldn't be Chinese, it would just be English with characters.
Example:
我行二店
我 is I
行 is go
二 literally means 2 but we will use that as a place holder to show the grammatical word "to" in English
店 is store.
"i go to store".
If you want, you can make it more simpler by doing 我行店, which literally means "I go store".

my Japanese isn't perfect but i can understand most things that involve everyday stuff. My girlfriend and i text in Japanese exclusively and i have 0 issues. I cannot read politics or anything though.
Short answer: yes
Long answer: Yes.
You quite literally have to change your thinking patterns. If you were to apply an English thinking style to Japanese, You would sound odd.
The Japanese commonly say "Did you Enjoy?" instead of "Did you have fun?". They are still thinking in Japanese, and while it's still correct in English, it isn't natural and sounds odd.
Chinese's grammar is a lot more simpler and closer to English, so i think it's less of a fact than Korean and Japanese.
That is my two cents.
