My reasons are:
1) It's cheap, even for a poor Russian like myself.
2) Internet is not blocked.
3) It's an interesting place with a mixture of languages and nationalities.
4) It's an island (I've never been on an island before), easy to travel around on a bike and explore the entire place.
5) Proximity to southern Japan, which I also would like to visit.
6) Where I am now it gets above +15C only for about 2 weeks per year, which fucking sucks, so warm taiwanese weather is also quite appealing.

That's exactly what I'm planning to do. I already have IELTIS certificate so getting a TEFL wouldn't be a problem. Besides, I have some experience in Ru>Eng>Ru oil & gas translation so I can be a freelance translator.
Or, if everything goes to shit, I wouldn't even mind unloading cars for food or something like that.
