Not if you're a Godzilla diehard. It's shit.

It's excellent and in many ways a timely homage/remake of the first.

T-thanks for the confusion guys.

I'll break the tie and say it's a great political satire and very similar to the first Godzilla film. It also makes Godzilla scary again which is nice. Definitely worth watching.

It's well liked here.

The biggest complaints don't hold much water imo:
>It's just people talking, not enough monster
So was the first mostly
>The CGI looks bad
It's not 'perfect' but it's more cartoony and grotesque which works, suspend disbelief anyway

mostly set in an office but when gozilla goes ree its worth it

nah

buy the soundtrack though

My favorite movie of 2016, I think

this guys trolling or retarded, it's second only to the original 1954 one OP

>they made him way too powerful to so that it took all the fun out of what makes the Godzilla films great
>they did weird shit like having him unhinge his jaw like a snake to use atomic breath

>Sup Forums

He wasn't too powerful, unlike other Godzillas he burns out his energy and has to recharge in a dormant state constantly, which made him vulnerable.

Not that user but these are both oddly specific yet nebulous criticisms.

>garbage

More like Shit Godzilla

I liked how it was a political drama but everyone was nice.

It's great. If you didn't see it in a theatre, you missed out desu familia

It's worth watching. Third act can feel slow but the conclusion really justifies it.

This. I'm so glad I managed to see this in Mexico without being spoilered.

Objectively speaking, this is effortlessly one of the best Godzilla films. Behind only Gojira and arguably Mothra vs Godzilla. Anno did the monster justice. Has some of the best human characters, cinematography, writing, and action sequences.

this. I fucking love Godzilla and all the other movies are a blast, all campy fun but in terms of filmmaking, besides Gojira, Shin Godzilla is by far the best, no questions asked.

Really good. Feels like OG stuff.

Godzilla 2000, GMK, and Shin Godzilla are the most solid efforts of the 21st century thus far.

Some people will tell you Godzilla (2014), though Gareth Edwards hasn't made a good film to date so that can't be true. It's empty spectacle with a sizable chunk of the spectacle kept off screen for the sake of the least interesting characters in recent memory.

Tfw no qt Jap politician waifu ;(((((((

>g2k
good taste user

Easily the best Godzilla has been in ages.

your mom is shitzilla

There's about 10 minutes of godzilla in a 2 hour movie. The parts he's in are pretty good. the rest is anime tier

Not bad, doesnt mention America enough though

Agreed, I don't know how anybody who likes Godzilla and also has any knowledge of film at all could dislike Shin Godzilla. It feels like a Godzilla movie should but also like it's just a genuinely solid movie, a rarity for the franchise.
t. never seen a godzilla movie

The acting is garbage and the sets and dialogue are boring. It's a modern japanese movie, unimpressive and with disgustingly unsubtle CGI

It was like a live action Eva but with incompetent Nerv

The fuck are you talking about? they stopped Godzilla, NERV fuck the world

Bad but since you are on a weeb board that likes retarded anime shit you should watch it just to be part of the discussion.

Some of the cgi in the beginning is very rough and the female "American" character was shit, Other than that it's fantastic.

you don't need to be in a capeshit fight?

you don't need to be masturbating to pedo comics? stupid weeb faggot get off my board

I love how they treat Godzilla like a completely different organism, even close to a machine/nuclear reactor and based their countermeasures on that

better than be a real pedo, get you off my board

There has not been a good live action jap movie since kurosawa and it hasn't changed.

...

> acting is garbage
Nope

> the sets and dialogue are boring
Nope. And do you even know what you want? How is the dialogue boring? What's interesting dialogue? Same goes with the sets.

>He thinks Kitano and Miike are bad

Their script are fucking garbage

How? Share your thoughts in detail.

I don't think Japanese is a language that allows for creative writing. It's too pragmatic and there is very little potential for poetry. They either have to dip into archaic words or do something with the number of syllables. There is no such thing as a good or bad script in japan, only unique plot ideas and crazy ass premises.

Second-to-none cinematography. Great practical effects. Pretty nice CGI. Good story-line. Very good OST.

this. most scripts for japanese movies have dialogue and actions that move the plot from point A to point B. the only movie I've seen with an exception to this was Battle Royale, but the scenes that diverged from the main plot were kinda hamfisted.

...

I teared up at the sheer awesomeness of one action scene. Watch it. It is fantastic.

...

>can't even wank because only the cover for the doujin was actually made
Feels bad man

>HURR LETS INSERT AS MANY SHITTY ANIME CLICHES AND TROPES AND STEREOTYPES AND THROW IN GODZILLA IN IT AND CALL IT A DAY
shit movie only weebniggers will defend
also lol at that stupid bimbo wanting to be the fucking president of usa when she couldn't even speak english
god this movie was garbage

There were a lot more shots of a boardroom than I expected for a Godzilla movie.

think you're confusing Shin with Legendary there

T. amerifag with shit taste.

What's the best Kurosawa movie?

I'm a huge Godzilla fan and this was easily top 5.

If you missed out on seeing this in theaters, I feel so bad for you. I got to see it twice and it was a treat both times. Even if you aren't a Godzilla fan I think you'd enjoy it, thanks to the superb editing and direction.

>shitty anime cliches
Such as? Explain yourself, phoneposter.

Sure if you watch Barney Godzilla like Son of Godzilla

The CGI is only bad in his first form. Final form Godzilla looks amazing

Its honestly only super shitty during his transformation from baby to the second form. Kamata-Kun's design is adorable.

The tank go pro take was full CGI. I thought it was real on cinema.

I like Hidden Fortress and also the epics Ran and Kagemusha the most but the classics Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Roshomon are required watching. Sanjuro is also great. Throne of Blood is okay. I've tried his lesser known works like The Lower Depths and The Idiot but they are not even on the same league 2bh. Ikiru is constantly topping lists but it's probably overrated. I'm not a fan of his non samurai movies. Fuck godzilla it's for losers

if you didn't give enough fucks to see it in theatres, you aren't going to give enough fucks to like it now.

お言葉ですが

It was only in theaters for 2 weeks, user, and didn't even get any advertisement on tv, so its not like everyone heard about it.

whats with the tail?

I thought it was decent, but way too over rated.
Overwritten script, jarring cuts in editing with out of place changes between wide shots and close up's, too much exposition about the narrative (and the constant on-screen textual exposition of every location and character was almost absurd), I liked the godzilla design but all the destruction around him looked cheesy, too much filler scenes etc.

The point of the slow bureaucracy is crystal clear in the first 5 minutes or so, you don't have to milk it for 2 hours straight.

Ogashira is CUTE

I'm pretty sure it was him trying to adapt to the new situation that was trapping him by creating more of himself, but was completely frozen before he could finish

>from the director of Neon Genesis Evangelion
Not at all.

Hideaki Anno is the most IMDB sensibility director so far. Anybody who thinks that Evangelion is above mediocre is juvenile about the medium and entirely emblematic of the video game crossposter fueled downfall of this board.

Anno is one of the biggest trashmasters working today. This is hot pocket the movie. Cheeto dust: the flick.

IMDB "FILM BUFF" pleb fodder. If you like this film then you are an enemy of the medium.

>MUH BASED OGASHIRA
>MUH BASED ANNO
>MUH FUKUSHIMA ALLEGORY
>MUH RELIGIOUS SYMBOLISM

All the memes are there, it's shit

So when are we going to see this glorious piece of shit? And will it be Legendary or Toho? I can't imagine they won't use one of Big G's most terrifyingly effective opponents in at least ONE of the new series

get high first

>The point of the slow bureaucracy is crystal clear in the first 5 minutes or so, you don't have to milk it for 2 hours straight.

But they didn't milk it for 2 hours at all, once the seriousness of the threat kicked in everyone went into high gear and did their best.

the good thing about godzilla movies is that they are slightly different each time
shin godzilla is perfect

what I don't get is how could they make 7 movies in the 90's with all the props and now the japs can't do even 2 movies in 10 years
same with gamera and all

>tii-thanks

Yeah because the whole point of Godzilla has always been how fucking vulnerabile it is, am I right?

The Japs love big meetings instead of action. No wonder they lost WWII.

>The Japs love big meetings instead of action.
like all those porn films in wich people ar minding their own business when some jap is getting fucked

Godzilla looks like that!?

I saw it in the theater. I liked every second that Godzilla was on screen, but all the fucking rapid-fire dialogue in the other 80% of the movie nearly put me to sleep. Plus it's two hours long, which is way longer than a Godzilla movie usually is.
