Is this any good?

is this any good?

niet

muh third worlders deserve the same conditions

No but district 9 was fine even though it resulted little porn

DUDE REFUGEES LMAO

Why was chappie in elysium?

well crap, i'm out of sci fi to watch then :(

It was good and didn't have a Disney ending. 8/10 I'm sure you will enjoy it.

>and didn't have a Disney ending

Just because Damon sacrificed himself doesn't make the ending good, literally magic machines from the sky came down and healed all the "good" little third worlders, it's the stupidest thing imaginable.

>dumb white bois anoyed the ending didn't end in explosions and instead people were helped

It's fine. Interesting enough to be entertaining, but too hamfisted to be actually thought-provoking

the movie ends on a high note, but it's clearly going to turn to shit real quick.
>since everyone now has access to incredible health care, mortality rates will plummet
>the already overpopulated earth will exponentially increase at increasingly higher rates
>Elysium will be turned into a shit hole just the same as earth
>billions die when the world is unable to sustain itself anymore because there's no food to be had

its good. It worth it just for Kruger alone

>the movie ends on a high note, but it's clearly going to turn to shit real quick.

>these mental gymnastics to turn what is obviously supposed to be a happy ending into a warning about the refugee crisis

The severity of your mental retardation is approaching levels never before seen.

the movie is about a warning of a refugee crises though. the entire setting is a complete third world to the point where the rich just go live in space instead.

Chappie is a prequel to Elysium

Shut the fuck up, you dumb black bitch

Why do you think that Elysium didn't make these miracle machines wildly available? There's pretty much 3 reasons
>they're very resource dependent and it's fuel is limited
>lack of these machines on earth increases mortality rates and prevents a more rapid expansion of the already large population
>hurr we're just evil rich people who don't want to help the filthy earthers
Clearly almost no one on the surface from what we've seen manages to amount to anything or do spectacular things and only work regular jobs. The most likely outcome is like I said, that the Earth will become overpopulated at a faster rate than it would have been before and countless die from starvation, or just continuously create more pollution until the atmosphere is destroyed and earth becomes unlivable.
It's not mental gymnastics, it's just common sense as to what will happen

Despite the obvious leftie angle, it's actually a great representation of how the world would look like in next hundred years. Poor brown/black/mixed population living in garbage on Earth, being policed by robots built by White elite that lives in space. I rewatch occasionally with that thought in mind. Amazing production and design of Elysium. Looks almost like alt-right sci-fi.

>they're very resource dependent and it's fuel is limited
That can't be the case, because everybody in Elysium had one of the miracle beds in their homes.

>hurr we're just evil rich people who don't want to help the filthy earthers
That's the most likely reason.

Keeping a handful of machines on earth would be a tremendous incentive to keep productivity up among the workforce. Basically, make a system that productivity earns you points, and by accumulating enough points you will gain an use of the machine. No more unrest, no more niggers and spics invading your station, and everybody will happily work their ass off and be thankful for it.

it was actually a horror film about the last bastion of the white race getting blacked

imma watch this ;)

Good film, ignore the contrarians

It's got two of my favorite lads, Sharlto Copley and Wagner Moura, worth a dumb watch just for them, especially for Copley.

Gotta be spoopy af having your house right on the edge of that thing.

I honestly don't understand the plot of this film. So apparently there's this Elite Wealthy Space Colonists living in this exclusive Space Station, but the problem is they don't share their advanced technology with the rest of humanity?

Why? Those health pods and other advanced technologies can be easily manufactured. The Space Elite Colonists literally have hundreds of those and they can make more. Why wouldn't they share their technology with the Earth?

At the very least, the people of Earth standard of living will increase to the point that their emigration will vastly decrease, their population will begin to stabilize, and they will no longer suffer perpetual poverty and ask for handouts.

I know it's supposed to be some allegory for real life. But it doesn't make sense. Real life doesn't have those affordable, easily manufactured futuristic health pods that can cure all the health problems for all people around the world.

Elysium literally represents silicone valley and the Bay Area. Liberals didn't like the way the movie portrayed them so they shat on this movie with the reviews.

Overall it's pretty good and very red pilled.

>Matt Damon plays a mexican

>Implying the world didn't almost convict a guy for raising drug prices
>Implying the trillion dollar pharmaceutical industry doesn't exist

It is an allegory. Wealthy people can afford to live longer and be healthier. Overly-Wealthy people can afford to dictate who lives longer.

>Why? Those health pods and other advanced technologies can be easily manufactured. The Space Elite Colonists literally have hundreds of those and they can make more. Why wouldn't they share their technology with the Earth?

And massively increase numbers of the poor population on the already overpopulated littered planet? For fucking what?

There's some stupid stuff but there's lot's of solid action so it doesn't really matter, and I still love that style of sci-fi Blomkamp does with everything. The setting makes more sense when you just accept that it's an extreme parody of the present day rather than a serious prediction of the future.

this

Retard. Never take tv opinion on anything. We are a bunch of fucking plebs. Watch it you will enjoy it for what it is.

He's not wrong, though.

Well he wanted that guy from die antwood who ended up on chappie and then he wanted eminim before giving it to el damon

People who have better access to health care is usually an indication they are now able to afford other investments, products, and services, like education and contraception. Just look at India: over a billion in population, but once their quality of life improved, their birth rates are now at replacement level (2.2).

This is without the First-World healthcare developed countries are afforded today. Thailand (1.5), Vietnam (1.96), Burma (2.1), all have fertility rates at or even below replacement level once their quality of life improved. All of these countries are not developed nations, all of these States report below a GDP per capita lower than 10,000. None of them have First World health care access, or even higher access to contraception.

Hell, look at the Philippines. 2.9. It's a country that actively discourages contraception, has outlawed abortion, doesn't recognize divorce, and actively encourages population growth, even out-of-wedlock births and teenage pregnancy (bunch of uncaring, ignorant, sociopathic savages). Yet their country is heading towards sub-replacement fertility levels.

This is all happening in real life, all without the access of Med-Bays. If Med-Bays existed today, their populations would begin to stabilize even further and populations would decrease due to couples realizing they no longer need to produce more children. More educated adults existing with access to contraception have less desire to have offspring.

Some decent action.

>discourages contraception, has outlawed abortion, doesn't recognize divorce, and actively encourages population growth, even out-of-wedlock births and teenage pregnancy
Yet Filipinos wonder and complain why they're so poor, overpopulated, and crime-infested? Literally the majority of their problems are self-inflicted, problems that can easily be solved. Let the country burn. Let their people suffer. If they want to continue walking towards perdition, we should let them. They will be a fine example of a country with poor population management.

You're talking about the Western-dominated world and an economy that it maintains. In scenario of Elysium all West will be in space and a completely ravaged Earth will be populated with low IQ brown savages. Even if you improve their healthcare they still will have no place to successfully integrate and sustain a good economy. Because they're still low IQ brown savages. Healthy and alive ones, but still. So they continue to work on shitty jobs, live in dirt and kill each other in gang violence.

I get the same vibes from the end of Fury Road, it's sad that first worlders are being conditioned to think that letting the undisciplined masses have unlimited access to carefully cultivated and preserved resources is a good idea.

Really, it's a bit of a shame because a director with balls could have used Elysium to show the ultimate futility of our current relief system in places like Africa.

>Same movie only the current ending happens roughly in the middle of the film
>Show local strongman warlords immediately take control of the healing machines
>Warlords extort the people who need healing and treat them even worse than Elysium ever did
>Fast forward 20 years, huge population explosion, warlords have enslaved much of the population via debt over using the healing machines, use propaganda to make them think they need to heal literally every minor problem
>Protag2.0 finally has enough, forces Elysium to get it's head out of it's ass, leads the charge to overthrow the corrupt 'governing party' the warlords established
>Uses Elysium tech/resources to actually build infrastructure and agricultural systems to feed and support the population
>Movie ends on a good note with several more Elysiums planned as the destitute third worlders are finally ready to join mankind in the stars

None of the countries reporting lowering birth rates mentioned in that user's post are Caucasians or even Westernized. In fact, most of them, especially the Filipinos, are low-IQ brown savages, but they're still reporting lower birth rates on an annual basis due to the mere fact that having children is a burden to most people who are educated enough to realize it.

ITT: movies conservatives will never understand

I didnt like it as much as D9 or Chappie, but Kruger is my favorite character from any of blompkamp's films.

Really, just watch the movie for Kruger because he is based as fuck

>tfw brainlets manage to misinterpret a film that portrays future LA as a literal third world shithole, directed by a white man living in South Africa

only whites hate it

Cool action sequences and tech and Fookin Prawns hams it up entertainingly as the villain. Damon is bland, love interest and her arc is bland, plot and moral quandry is sort of a big "meh". Worth a watch.

Pretty dry but, yeah, it's a little good. Some might say it's slow with questionable payoff and I wouldn't disagree, though.

Which one are you?

Glad actually having to work with the guy has cured Blomkamp of his obsession and we won't be seeing them again.

i just did. it was ok. did the job.

The movie only needed one extra line.

1) "The healing machines cost millions of dollars for each use. They require an isotope which can only be manufactured in Zero-Gravity."

Boom. Now the movie makes sense.

Our future is nothing like the one in the movie
stop being delusional

...

the ending was mega gay tho

kys snowflake

...

It's already like that. You're the delusional one.

giff meh ta fookin cohd, Max.

I don't believe Blumpkin is that redpilled, he's just a commie that hates the rich like most well off Afrikaaners.

It predicts the future of Western civilization quite nicely. The powerful and rich will always find the better "lands" and leave the masses to begging and rooting in the dirt. I could see how some take this movie as a message about "poor ethnics should be treated with eqaulity" or some shit, but I think it's more of an honest prediction. He even goes out of his way to have a white male in the lead when it probably should be a shit skin given the overall population in his movie, and even one of the antagonist's is a white male.

But because he reached too far, everyone shits on him. District 9 did well because it was a fresh new director with a lower budget. Now everyone has seen that, they have trouble watching anything else objectively.

do it

>muh mars colonies
>we gonna be space people, colonizing other planets and shit

No. We are going to be stuck in this shithole and burn up our resources faster than we should. But a select few will get to live the good life.

>whitey builds paradise
>darkies come up and ruin everything

what was the meaning behind this movie again?

They still depend on Earth resources to keep their orbital colony going. The processes on Earth that they rely on are subject to past, current and future conditions, such as the working force and the ability to keep said working force in check (so they don't demand more and make it hard for the wealthy to keep doing what they are doing and even do more). Sharing their tech with the masses creates problems with maintaining their processes and thus creates problems for their orbital colony.

whitey dumb let willie stab in neck

>whitey builds paradise
>whitey don't allow brownie in
>whitey bad, whitey kill

It's not complicated.

The number of people on elysium were relatively few compared to the ocean of people who will line up to use them now. Also, the fact the people who owned them were wealthy implies the expensive nature of the technology.

Pretty sure he had to make concessions in order to market and distribute this film. The uplifting happy ending, displaying the poor masses in a sympathetic tone while displaying the rich few in a more sterile non-emotional way; all this was probably done with a purpose of getting this film made and put in as many theaters as possible. Good luck getting a high budget sci fi film made that shows the poor ethnic masses as the problem and the rich white people as sympathetic.

>ah wonted ta 'eel da racial tensions but nao ah'll maek sure it'll NEVAH be 'eeled
What did Herr Krüger mean by this?

kys nigger

Why is he holding flowers?

>world turns into shithole due to 3rd world migration
>wihite flight occurs
>white traitor teams up with minorities to kill ebil whitey
>whitey loses and the world is free xpppp
>massive space station built by the whiteman is overran by minorities
>turns into a shithole

This movie is more redpilled than many of you let off

Yeah except that the plot revolves around magical healthcare boxes, with seemingly unlimited resources built in, so it forces you to wonder why the evil nasty elites hate the poor so much that they would deny those doe-eyed minorities and poors access to their veritable contains of youth. As long as you can distinguish this fiction from America's current healthcare system and not get worked up over the hamhanded political messaging, you will probably enjoy the movie

Fountains of youth
I'm a dumb phoneposter

>he actually thinks the warlords of earth won't take their healthcare boxes by force and then fuck over the rest of the poorfags
once again the dumbass commie underestimates human nature

>somehow missing the tick sarcasm about evil, nasty elites in my post
Take a look at this nitwit, this is what happens when you bombard uneducated boors with political messaging

kek

It was redpilled, Blomkamf is our guy.

Eh, boet? Too much temptayshun?

The world and background was exquisitely well built only to be ruined with an embarrassingly on the nose liberal critique of class struggle and refugees.

>Matt Damon...My arch nemesis

This. I don't get why the film makes it seem like the future is going to be completely dominated by Spanish-speaking/South American countries. Have people look at the fertility rates of Spanish-speaking/South American countries? Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay have below replacement levels as we speak. Hell, Mexico and Argentina are at replacement level right now, so you can't even count them growing in the future. It's Africa and parts of Asia that will make up most of the growth. The people that believe South America will dominate the world population are simply mistaken. South America is transitioning to European levels of HDI, they're going to grow exponentially and there isn't going to be billions of them flooding the rest of the world due to their living conditions.

>there isn't going to be billions of them flooding the rest of the world due to their living conditions.

Not the world, just North America. Which they will.

the problem with that film is that it's not a film, it's a documentary. It's a documentary about the future of the world

>We
Drink battery acid ASAP

It has some great science fiction elements. It doesn't invent anything new but it depicts these common ideas in a creative manner

The exoskeleton surgery scene was both fucked up and amazing, for example
