Is Game of Thrones our generation's LOTR of the Rings?

Is Game of Thrones our generation's LOTR of the Rings?

No

since your generation are a bunch of morinic degenerate faggots then yes .. have at it..

LOTR isn't porn.

New fag detected

Not really comparable.

LotR is a pretentious folk tail for geeks.
GoT is a blockbuster pulp fantasy epic.

July 16
It's almost time.

How is it pretentious? Moreover, how can a folk tale be pretentious, it's almost an oxymoron

George certainly wants that. God know he's drawn enough parallels. Even his name f f s.

What generation? LOTR is the LOTR of our generation. You would have to be like 16 to argue otherwise.

You do realize LOTR was released 70 years ago and reached the peak of its popularity in the 60's? the movies don't count.

Because it's modern enough to not be an authentic folk tail yet it has this Beowulf level of importance.

I'm not saying it's bad but that's probably why it didn't really take off until the '70s and initially had mixed reviews.

it could've been, but it honestly feels like it's being done by people who don't get the books, and it's become almost a parody of itself at this point.

so i'll go with no

>LotR
Three kino films, three shitty prequels
>GoT
Two good seasons, five shitty seasons, and a whole bunch of shitty spinoffs incoming

The two aren't really comparable desu

Nah, not enough tax policies.

from the way its looking he doesnt care anymore and is going to pander to the the masses and make the most generic fantasy ending he might do something different in the books but the show is fucks he is going George lucas take the money and run

How dare you compare that stupid shit to LOTR.

I'd say Harry potter

There are far more good episodes of GoT than there are good LotR films. More good books based on Westeros than Middle Earth too. Eat a dick Tolkien fatlard manlet capeshitters.

You do realize this is a television and movies board?

Harry Potter kid
Lord of the Rings teenager
Game of Thrones adult

Has there every been a better generation?

There's a 90% chance that GRRM is going to die before his fat ass ever finishes the books

The show isn't going to get any better

>Two good seasons, five shitty seasons
Nah, it's Two Excellent seasons, two overall good seasons, one shitty season, and one mediocre season

Yup:

>John Wayne Kid
>Clint Eastwood Teenager
>Roy Rodgers Adult

...

So now that the dust has settled, when is TWoW getting released?

At least he still writes new chapters faster than fucking Togashi.

>Game of thrones adult

you have to be 15 to think that shit is mature

>
>

When GRRM dies and Brian Herbert takes over as the eventual successor :^)

He's explicitly stated that he doesn't want a wheel of time scenario.
Whether or not that will happen when shekels are on the line is a different matter entirely.

No. It's LOST. A soon as it's finished people will completely stop caring

No, it's overrated cooking book with collection of coats of arm, with a shocking revelation at the end of each book, that will be utterly irrelevant in the next book.

Martin is a fucking hack, and since he is also an utterly assblasted libshit, I bet my paycheck that he went to rewrite his current book to cram as many Trump lookalikes in it.

fpbp

Game of Thrones is so much better since it actually has realistic characters who arent just good or evil like tolkiens black and white moral stuff, it actually goes into shades of grey and is so much more realistic with the war and its effects etc, also has much better characters than shitty Gimli, Leglas etc. Characters like Tyrion are some of the best written and made characters in modern literature

>muh shades of grey

babby's first moral relativism

In 70 years no one will remember it so no

>fantasy
>realism
ok

No, its not even close.
Martin is an awful writer and the shows jumped the shark 2 seasons ago.
Fuck off with these shit tier comparisons

>tfw that loli loving fucker announced ANOTHER hiatus AGAIN

He can't keep getting away with it.

>Hiatus until winter

FUCKKKCCKKK YOOUU MIURA

>doesn't address income tax or company tax.

"No."

>Want his fantasy to be realistic

Just read a history book you boring faggot

I always get a chuckle of out plebians that call GoT realistic. How embarrassing.

Is this a real opinion?
Fucking hell lmao

You can meme all you want but its clearly so much more relevant to world affairs and means a lot more to people, this is why GRRM is reaching popularity that Tolkien never could
And is why his characters will be remembered long after people have forgotten aragorn and all the other shitty ones like Frodo

>GRRM is reaching popularity that Tolkien never could

This has got to be bait

...

>Lord of the rings of the rings

One, it's still fairly niche, even as fantasy goes.
Two, people are complete fucking idiots. Transformers means a lot to people, too.

>muh realism
>overtly gritty world where everyone gets rapekilled the moment he steps out of a gate
reminder that only saxons and norse and niggers were like this, by the time the "middle ages" and more civilized kingdoms arose travel was relatively safe and thus enabled trading, exchanging goods and ideas and all that stuff.
In Westeros that is literally impossible as people ALL behave like they're Mad Max villains, there would be no safety and thus no incentive to trade or invest, at least from what we're shown.

Also Religion was an active part of daily life in the Middle Ages, yet the fat fuck in over 7 books only goes into depht like 3 times treating them like in-world legends and having characters just say "by the seven!" a few times.
Oh yes, there's the Savonarola-expy with the High Septim, that's it.
GoT is a juvenile and edgy idea of what the middle ages were like according to an ignorant american public education-tier "writer".

>It's bait that people around the world love Martin's universe and are caring less and less about tolkien's outdated backwards 19th century mindset and writings
ok.

Game of thrones is obviously much more kino than transformers though which is why when audiences watch it, it becomes greater in quality. GRRM has taken everything tolkien did and done it better

Death is a personal matter, arousing sorrow, despair, fervor, or dry-hearted philosophy. Funerals, on the other hand, are social functions. Imagine going to a funeral without first polishing the automobile. Imagine standing at a graveside not dressed in your best dark suit and your best black shoes, polished delightfully. Imagine sending flowers to a funeral with no attached card to prove you had done the correct thing. In no social institution is the codified ritual of behavior more rigid than in funerals. Imagine the indignation if the minister altered his sermon or experimented with facial expression. Consider the shock if, at the funeral parlors, any chairs were used but those little folding yellow torture chairs with the hard seats. No, dying, a man may be loved, hated, mourned, missed; but once dead he becomes the chief ornament of a complicated and formal social celebration.

-John Steinbeck

All along the south coast of Cape Wrath rose crumbling stone watchtowers, raised in ancient days to give warning of Dornish raiders stealing in across the sea. Villages had grown up about the towers. A few had flowered into towns.
The Peregrine made port at the Weeping Town, where the corpse of the Young Dragon had once lingered for three days on its journey home from Dorne. The banners flapping from the town’s stout wooden walls still displayed King Tommen’s stag-and-lion, suggesting that here at least the writ of the Iron Throne might still hold sway.

-George RR Martin

Well, you're definitely baiting now. I'm going to bed, this is awful.

Why do people keep posting these quotes: the subject matter is very different. At least it demonstrates someone who can write worth a damn, I suppose.

This.

There are so many world-building mistakes with ASOIAF that trigger my autism I don't even know where to begin.
The blocky square shapes of the continents. The fact that Dorne, a thin peninsula jutting out into the ocean is all desert. The fact that the rivers in the Riverlands make no sense. The fact that families like the Starks can apparently survive unbroken for 8000 years and not have hundreds of branches, instead having a single family and one distant cadet branch. The fact that the Faith of the Seven essentially fulfils the role of Christianity in the early 20th Century, and nobody really takes it seriously, whereas in the Middle Ages religion was by far the most important aspect of life for the majority of Humanity. The fact that George never explains the Iron Throne's fucking tax policy.

Not to mention the fact that he tries to apply late Medieval English politics and warfare to a continent the size of South America, with troop movements that make no sense in either time or space

It's a feudal society.

They probably just tax production of physical goods (crops, wine, fish, such and such) and have collect tariffs on certain goods coming to their ports (we know for a fact smuggling is a thing in Westeros, so there must be some trade barriers such as tariffs).

Night. Game of Thrones will only be more popular and successful when you wake up, and LOTR more unrelevant

...

Fucking this, the world of Westeros is nothing like what it is based on (medieval europe). England was way more lawful back in the middle ages than it is now

People work the land, sell some crops and pay their taxes to ensure they don't die of starvation.
Outlaws quickly get put to the sword

>The fact that families like the Starks can apparently survive unbroken for 8000 years and not have hundreds of branches, instead having a single family and one distant cadet branch.
This also rustles my jimmies, as well as everybody speaking the same fucking tongue in the entire continent

I don't think everybody spoke latin in the Roman empire at his height. And I doubt that a peasant in Portugal would understand a peasant in, say, Judea

And a 700 meter high wall which people climb on and off of everyday

Would he have won the war if it was a True Realistic like George said it was?

>Also Religion was an active part of daily life in the Middle Ages, yet the fat fuck in over 7 books only goes into depht like 3 times treating them like in-world legends and having characters just say "by the seven!" a few times.

This, I mean, there is literally no important clergyman until the High Sparrow, late in the books. It would be expected that at least one bishop or whatever would dominate court politics and have, at least, a seat on the high counsel. The Grand Maester ain't exactly like that, should have been taken the role of a priest more, and be more serious

no because no lol death magic

Yep, Vulgar Latin was already breaking into diverging dialects by the 4th century, over a century before the Empire even fell. This is in a very centralised and powerful society bound together very strongly around the Mediterranean. So in a massive decentralised feudal continent-spanning kingdom like Westeros there should realistically be at least four or five different dialects spoken within each of the kingdoms, let alone the whole landmass.

If it was "realistic", then his position at the start of the war should have been much better.

It seems difficult for modern audiences to grasp but people in the Medieval era did put a lot of stock in bloodlines and rightful hereditary succession, and Stannis being the rightful heir should have made him a lot more popular, especially since rumours of Joffrey's legitimacy would realistically have been circulating since the day of his birth, and there is no way in hell Robert would "realistically" have been unaware of this.

I never bought into the whole "Stannis inspires no love", and "Nobody likes Stannis". Medieval leaders didn't want to be liked. They wanted to be feared and respected, which Stannis was. He was basically the perfect Medieval monarch. Ruthless, pious, strong. He should be a lot more popular with the commoners and knights than he was in the books. And since the aristocracy is a landed feudal militarised one, they should have really been more supportive of him.

>Joffrey's legitimacy would realistically have been circulating since the day of his birth
This especially with Stannis having a Daughter with all the Baratheon Features, (Besides the Florents ones)

I never understood this. Wouldn't Robert be at least suspicious if how younger brother had a child witb the baratheon features while his inherent all of the lannister looks

Lesson here is don't trust fat fucks. Can't handle their diet, can't handle anything else.

THIS.
Gas the fatties

No because genes are complex

What? all of Robert's Bastard have some form of the Baratheon Features. it is suspicious as fuck

>get Shakespearean actor with lots of accolades and awards to portray important character
>never give him direction, a decent script and portray him as a retard half of the time
what did they mean by this?

Nah John Milius made Conan.

Not in ASOIAF. Families have specific traits which they almost always inherit.

>outdated backwards 19th century mindset and writings
I didn't know Michael Moorcock posted here.
I know you're Still assblasted that Tolkien left you in the dirt, but latching on to Martin isn't going to make anyone remember Elric

This.
Stannis is someone like Edward the third or The Black Prince. Nobody really liked either for their personality, but they were still well respected military commanders.

>not picking Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere

YALL be some scrub redditors
