For Asheville, NC it was a pretty shitty time. The great depression screwed our city far more than any in the state and it took till 1976 to pay off debts. This combined with shopping malls/box stores killed downtown. Now it's probably the most expensive/desirable downtown in the state and this building is a luxury hotel.
