Can you Europeans explain as to why the norm for you is driving stick shift? I just learned about how it works and it seems extremely inefficient and a nuisance.
Are you all just poor?
Can you Europeans explain as to why the norm for you is driving stick shift...
I drive
i will drive automatic cars when the volkswagens we steal from Germany will be automatic
i think we're just used to it
it's the 'tism
Once you get used to it you don't even think about it, and cars are cheaper and manual gearboxes are less prone to break.
Because it gives you more control over your car, making it a lot more useful for varied roads. If all you do is commute on a highway, then it's kind of pointless yes.
>reach place where you have to stop urgently
>be in a gear that you cant stop from immediately
>more control over your car
It's because they were wrecked after WWII and needed to produce lots of cheap cars not mess around trying to perfect the more expensive automatics.
Because I'm not a child
Mate, you press the break and gear at the same time.
1/10
...
I can see you desperately want to be in an "American Education" screen cap.
This.
>be in 7th gear going down the street casually
>in the blink of an eye light turns red
>have to press break immediately
>then you have to then quickly use the same foot that you used on the break on the clutch
>use your hand to go 7th -> 6th -> 5th -> 4th -> 3rd -> 2nd -> 1st -> to neutral gear
>you have to do this in merely seconds
>this always has to go through your head going up to streetlights
No thanks, I'd rather just stick to my automatic and not have to think about so much shit at once
You can stop pretending now.
I know you're just baiting but most cars have 5-6 gears.
it works great as an anti Amerimutt system
Automatic transmissions have compromised response and power transfer because of the fluid couplings. On smaller engines you really feel the difference, an automatic will feel much more sluggish than a manual. Also a manual will allow you to pick the correct gear for the desired rev range for whatever driving you're doing, instead of an automatic that constantly rows up and down through the gears in corners or on hills. This once again is important for smaller engines with more limited power bands. Traditionally Americans would simply add another liter to the engine displacement to make up for the automatic transmission shortcomings so that it wouldn't matter whether you're driving at 2000 revs or 3000 revs, but that wasn't an option here.
No joke, when I was on vacation on an island in Croatia and talked to a rent a car dude, he told me a story about a bunch of Americans exploding one of their car's engines by not shifting out of first gear and wondering why the car is so slow.
>>then you have to then quickly use the same foot that you used on the break on the clutch
wut
left foot operates the clutch pedal
Because unlike you we have a functional brain and can drive real cars. Fuck off mutt piece of shit.
This
Automatic cars have reached the point in their development where they have pretty much made stick obsolete
Automatics were made for women, and because American men are sissies they adopted it as well. Driving stick gives you more control over the revs of the engine, also its more enjoyable.
