This was disappointing. Why is it praised so much apart from muh animation?

this was disappointing. Why is it praised so much apart from muh animation?

what is it again?

There's no hope for you. If you need someone to explain why it's a great movie, you're already beyond help.

not enough smash mouth songs for the amerifat uh

>I am incapable of explaining why it's great.

See, we can do it too.

OP could have read reviews to find out why it's praised, but what he really wanted to do was let everyone know that he doesn't like it.

it was fun story made without script

Because anime is garbage medium and is held to a much lower standard.

Its overwhelming imagination, unique take on a coming-of-age story, and sublime, insanely detailed animation.

the characters are flat and underdeveloped, the plot hardly makes any sense. The only things worth praising are the designs and animation. Porco Rosso is a better film all around

Why is it praised apart from why it is praised?

I pity a person who can't find the magic in Ghibli movies

kys

Because people are biased against anime, it is actually held to higher standards than everything else. And it's not like the Berlin film festival had some obligation to give an award to an anime movie.

Maybe there is more to movies than just extreme character development and plot.

>held to a much lower standard
how? name one other anime movie that gets praise in the West.

Easily impressed children and adult children
Reminder miyazaki is the jimmy of japan

I like it. I think people like this one the most because it's the least preachy of all the Ghibli films. That ending was really stupid though.

>Maybe there is more to movies than just extreme character development and plot.

muh animation

literally dangling keys in front of a baby

I didn't say anything about animation, but it is one element. Anime is a visual medium.

because incels without gf and stupid feels

it IS a good movie but not nearly as good as the general consensus says. There are much better animated movies around

Explain why it's bad first faggot. No one owes you an explanation

>the characters are flat and underdeveloped.

The characters were fine. I would even say chihiro was great. I mean how complex do you need a 10 year old to be? (It's not like having multiple layers is good always).

And if you had trouble understanding a simple plot like this one, I don't know what to say.

post some anime kino scenes

I wonder how much time has passed at the end of the film. Their car has been overgrown, so at least a month, perhaps years?

I don't think years. All I know is they missed the movers and the parents are going to freak out when they find out how long they've been gone

yeah the kid was ok but everyone else was basically a plot tool. My problem with the plot is that it's too simple, until the end I thought that No Face was someone related to the kid but in the end he was just another random spirit

ep 25-26 are the pinnacle of anime t b h

Hahahahah awww you're so butthurt people shit on your cartoons, virgin xD

Not every character has to be 2deep4u or have some arc to them. Not everything has to revolve around a plot. This is formulaic textbook thinking.

Spirited Away is the most popular movie of all time in Japan, not some "virgin" stereotype thing.

In Japan yes. But only creepy weeaboos in America like it and they're virgin or incel. Like you! It's ok. Just admit it.

They were praising Miyazaki for making a pretty picture.

I thought the movie lacked strong characters.

so.. muh animation?

>I don't know what to say
Only thing that's true in your post.

Ghibli is as mainstream as anime gets outside Japan, and is dubbed and distributed by Disney in America.

I again said nothing about animation. You have a lot to learn about filmmaking and storytelling if you think it all comes down to a plot and a character development checklist.

The loli?

>no arguments

ok ghibli fanboy

it was many people's first animeme movie, disney made a dub and played it on their channel

>It's not just plot that makes it good!
>Doesn't tell what it is
>Y-you're just ignorant

Hmm

...

I want to work in a comfy place like the bathhouse. What would be the real life equivalent, a nice hotel?

It looked pretty and had good music but the plot was just a sequence of random unrelated events

If those weren't arguments according to you, then what exactly were you expecting?

Well you are ignorant.

How about you actually tell what seperates this flick from others, cunt

I am not even talking about Spirited Away specifically, I am talking about your notion that filmmaking and storytelling are strictly about having a plot and a character development checklist.

Lol I'm not even him

It wasn't a sequence of random events.

You are assuming his position, so it doesn't matter.

why are japs stuck in 2d do they ever do claymation or stop motion? why are they so scared to do something experimental lmao

>ur ignorant

is not an argument

>watching anime above the age of 12

>moving the goalpost

embarassing

I really liked the aesthetic of the masked ghost character and hated when they showed his giant mouth under it

nice assumptions. There are plenty of live action Japanese productions.

Anime is just a fucking powerhouse in Japan because the post-war production was simple and creative

Most of it isn't even made for kids.

Where did I do that?

Answer OP

There's nothing experimental about claymation and stop motion.

What do you mean answer him?

what makes this film so great that isn't related to the visuals?

Why is it specifically my obligation to explain this to OP?

Yeah explain it faggot

I always thought it was shit and no one ever able to give me one good reason why it was good. Boring trash

because the lego movie and wallace and gromit are western

I'm guessing they gave many good reasons, but your attitude is that anything you don't consider 12/10 is "shit" and "boring trash," because you are not capable of any nuance.

film "experts", everyone

Do you have a mental illness? What's going on here?

>posting on a weeb website about how you're too mature for weebshit

No John you are the fedora.

embarassing

Uh huh. Remember to take your pills.

Nuance lol fuck off

I watched it with zero expectations. Unlike you I didn't need the internet to tell me what was good.
I came across it as I watched many movies and speak Japanese you cunt

It was still shit

cringe

Mononoke was better

Nope.

This

I also watched it with zero expectations. I didn't say anything about expectations. Your real or imagined Japanese ability has nothing to do with this.

It's like I said already: anything you don't consider 12/10 is shit. There is nothing in-between. There is no nuance.

I agree, your behavior is very cringe.

this movie is a 7.5/10 at best, Ghibli fanboys are truly hopeless

>want to get into ghibli films
>watch spirited away
>love it
>watch howl's moving castle
>almost fall asleep and turn it off halfway through
Am I a pleb?

>watch spirited away
>love it

yes

Howl is generally considered one of their weakest movies.

>their

is ghibli genderfluid, stupid faggot?

every movie of his is INCREDIBLY similar. Once you've seen one you've kinda seen them all.

Ghibli is a studio, not a person.

This is a meme by people who either have not actually seen his movies or have some kind of brain disorder.

Even the Fanservice of NGE is KNHO

Film is about feeling not plot. SA is a coming of age story that is easy to project yourself onto. Growing up is a complicated time in one's life and the film reflects that. If you don't get some sort of cinematic feels from that train scene then you probably need to watch more movies.

Because miyazaki. In fact, you don't need to like his movies, just pretend to praise him because if you dislike his always-the-same movies you dont have taste, are a weebo or a contrarian.

His movies aren't all the same, and nowadays what gets you labeled a weeaboo is liking any anime.

>Why is it praised so much apart from muh animation?

>why is this action movie praised so much apart from the fights and explosions?

whats the best anime movie

I want to broaden my horizons and give some of it a shot

although I have already seen 5 Centimetres Per Second for some reason

Akira
Princess Mononoke
Ghost in the Shell
Bebop Movie

etc

>liking any anime.

Except Miyazaki. He was always labeled as different to "traditional anime". Since for non anime watchers traditional anime it was always violent, moe or porn.

>His movies aren't all the same

Except from slice of life movies, that you can find in any season anime by the way, the other are always the same: All conflicts are solved in a way that suits the ideology of the protagonist.

Some of the most normalfag-approved ones are Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke (and other Miyazaki movies), Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, Angel's Egg, REDLINE, Perfect Blue, Paprika, and Memories (mostly the first part, Magnetic Rose).

Two movies or shows are not equivalent to each other just because they belong to the same genre, and two movies and shows are not equivalent to each other just because they share similar themes.

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

you need to watch the anime first though, it's a sequel of it.

Mind game

just watch it
