Peter: No, I appreciate it, but I'll be fine.

Norman: It's not problem. I'll make a few calls.

Peter: No, I couldn't accept it, sir. I like to earn what I get, I can find my own work.

The sequel preserves this character trait. Adding to that, Harry and Peter are at odds in the movies, and one of the first few scenes in Spider-Man 2 has Peter saying that he wants them to be friends again.

In today's world Peter probably wouldn't even go to college. He's so smart that he could just his own start up company or something and start getting investors and making money. Probably one of the reasons they will keep the Homecoming movies in high school.
