How can people there speak fluent english like a native at the age of 14 ?
I struggled for years to learn this shitty language and it's still not perfect (but at least i can understand everything i read)
How can people there speak fluent english like a native at the age of 14 ?
weak culture
youtube.com
Not sure
its the closest to english (not finns), they have no dubbing so they consume way more media in english than others
also their teachers are good, not loser david kuns without any degree bubbling in deepnorthsouth accents
I didn't speak fluent english at the age of 14, but I could understand English very well and speak English like Petter Solberg. The Scandinavian languages are closely related to English so it's easier to learn for us.
we fumble as apes when we speak it, us being good at english is a huge meme
Really ?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eq8keXo1Ck
For exemple she says she's not that good at english but still sounds like a native english for me
there are tons of international students at my school, we really arent specially talented in any way
They barely have their own culture so that's why. Everything they enjoy is in English
>japan higher than france, italy and hk
Many of them don't even speak English. Also those who speak English are terrible at it. Talking about France and Italy.
Literally nobody here has a Sup Forums-tier english level so that doesn't surprise me at all
weak culture, every movies and tv shows dubbed in english.
>let me tell you about your country
>weak culture
No, we’re in the same language group and start learning it when we are 5/6
>dubbed in english
what
in my experience in online games, clans and platoons
i hardly call them fluent, some of them are really good (mostly swedes) but many others sound weird and mumble a lot
but hey, those are just from video games
The only Scandinavian culture that is weak is the Swedish one.
Some geeks who play role playing games speak English even to other Norwegians. That's really fucked up.
I have always wondered how people can be so bad at English. I mean a Western European country should be developed to the point where they have a good education system but still when I have been further south than Germany people just suck at English.
French people are just brainlets
Remember the people becomes even stupider and stupider with every passing year
Soon we will be seen as multilingual scholars and erudites thanks to 4chin
Good education system doesn't mean shit when the pupils are literally brainless
people are usually good to learn stuff they are interested to, if you guys are so into english speaking it must be because your culture isnt deep enough to sustain modern culture bulimia, and i told you this in english so dont come at me implying im arrogant its the same shit everywhere but you should admit that you guys are anormally good at it.
ive been to norway its basically usa with lesser nigger and rudest people i ever encuntered.
Most people who browse Sup Forums are really smart, they just like to act stupid.
dabing with all my medal fields around the neck bong
Because we also speak a Germanic language and we start learning English at age 6, we also have very high-IQ populations.
if you have higher iq population why you never ever been relevant in europe history ? dutch that were almost as tiny as you were relevant.
youtube.com
People are rude because you don't know the Norwegian body language. It's kind of unique. And how are we "basically usa"?
thats not how it works. sumerians were building monuments while your ancestors were flinging shit at each other and look at the modern day sumerians, just a bunch of goat fuckers
The Swedish Empire was very relevant at its time. Dutch had much bigger population than us and much better climate for growth+trade and better location overall.
French pupils just think the language is meh and have no incentive to learn it. My friends and I used to skip English classes until our last year of middle school, when our new teacher turned out to be a complete bro. He was American but spoke perfect French. He'd come with us to kebab shops and was just a very nice, down to earth guy in general.
He's the only reason I can speak this dreadful language.
>How can people there speak fluent english like a native at the age of 14 ?
They don't. That's a massive exaggeration.
youre basically usa because everything was written in english, big cars everywhere, nice towns then mioes of natural untouched landscapes etc, really liked it, cant remind the name but climb that high fjord and played soccer on a beach at 4am like if it was 4pm, will never forget. too bad your elders were so rude with our group of young french man with approximative english speaking.
Why you even should? Spanish should be A WAY MORE profitable for you.
t. don't even listen anglomusic now
It's possible if person is native in a germanic language and study it since the first grade.
>frogs we wuuuuz about all the latin words in english
>still can't speak it worth a piddle
i only have usage of english on this boards tho
What did they say?
and english speakers cant talk anything else but their own language tho, and youll answer because you dont have the need, same for us.
I even listen music in Polish, Estonian and etc.
But why would we need to learn English? People just don't see the point in putting the effort, since they can get by perfectly easily with French alone.
A 10-15 years of modern selfdestruction british cultural policy and people will call theyselves Welsh and learn the language.
>Belgium that high
That's bullshit mate
we wanna camp on dedicated camping zones but some crazy elders didnt allowed us to do, i dont know if it was because we werent scandinavians or because they needed all the place for themselves but they almost physically threatens us to leave. never ever felt that kind of rudeness before.
When I was in Belgium it felt like the percentage of people that could speak English went from 100 to 0 when I went from the Dutch speaking to the French speaking part.
Isn't French mostly an African language now? memes aside, I think more Africans speak french than actual French people.
Le français est la seule langue qui importe. La langue de la République Française est le français.
You're the meme
Even in former french speaking countries, the use of French has drastically lowered in favour of local languages such as wolof
anyone below Malaysia should be executed
Probably because you don't need to camp at a dedicated camping spot and they wanted the place for themselves.
And by the way, this applies in Norway especially when it comes to elder people and farmers. en.wikipedia.org
> cette chose desu
scandis have always been cucks to lingua franca, we are probably gonna switch to chinese soon when the asian century begins
Then why do French people not feel the need to learn another language?
If you have a hateboner for English you could just learn Spanish or Chinese or whatever other relevant language there might be. French isn't really a very international language anymore.
Yeah I don't know how it's going in Bartland, but as far as I know Wallonia is fucked in the multilanguage area.
Fact is I could probably count the amount of Belgians that can speak (as in, actually fucking speak the language) English on my hand.
Yeah but those are just statistics. No one in their right mind would call French an African language, when France is still the country with the largest concentration of France speakers, and African French is its own dialect. You're just trying to rile me up.
>You're the meme
Is your understanding of the English language so poor that you didn't understand me? I said memes aside. Oh well,
maybe they thougt because we were young and from "" latin"" country that we would be loud and dirty, but it was on overall nice experiment, i then went to croatia, corsica and ireland, norway was the best by far, and it was pretty warm too like 20-25°, would recommand
Because you we start learning it in first class and then it's a regular (mandatory) subject in school all the way up through gymnasium. Also, our languages are closely related. English-speakers are often surprised by how easy it is to pick up scandi languages.
>when France is still the country with the largest concentration of France speakers
son there are 120 million African French speakers, that's more than there is French people unless you count those Africans as French
>Then why do French people not feel the need to learn another language?
Because:
-everything is dubbed and traducted, the average pleb will never have to go out of his way to mindlessly consume mainstream hollywood medium
-french people have grown lazy
What happens more and more though seems to happen in other countries like NL: they use english words and expression in the middle of otherwise fully french sentences
you learn a language if you have the purpose to use it, french have no purpose to learn foreign languages just like anglos or nips.
So? No one in France believes in the "international citizen" meme. We don't need an international language, what's so triggering about that?
Just because you let English replace your own language doesn't mean everyone has to do the same.
this
our cultures are weak, in fact almost non-existant. we just copy whoever is most influential.
What do you not understand in the word "country"? Africa is a continent.
africa isnt a country
>everything is dubbed
>No one in France believes in the "international citizen" meme
Now you're the memester
I don't know of any people more universalist than the french
>muh republic
>muh races arent real
>muh you can be french if you drink wine and speak french
Similar Germanic languages I guess... What I don't get it how Finns are so fluent.
weakest culture and lesser relevant among scandinavs
That's not what an international citizen is.
It's true.
Since I live in Wallonia I get access to that shit, and everything is indeed translated and dubbed.
And French dub is quite fucking disgusting, but that's just my opinion.
We do it to spite Sw*Doids, whose language we should be able to speak, according to them.
>No one in France believes in the "international citizen" meme
I don't know where this came from lol
>We don't need an international language, what's so triggering about that?
Nothing, you are allowed to feel that way. It just seems like gimping yourself in regards to getting a job or travelling or just using the internet if you can't communicate with people outside your own country.
Sounds like you had fun. Good to hear that you liked Norway.
Not true. It's your own cuckold politicians forcing you to learn Swedish in school, most Swedes are against that shit.
>getting a job
you need to learn english to attend a job in your country ? lol
EVERYTHING
Even obscure animeshit that no one bothered to watch because it wasn't trendy yet from the late 90/ early 00 got dubbed
finns already learn swedish and the grammar is relatively the same as english
It's not about a depth in our culture. It's because we are exposed to mass media in English, as nothing is dubbed, except for cartoons aimed for 3-5 year olds.
We're also taught that we have to know another language, otherwise we'll be rendered useless. Your country is 60m people, with hundreds more speaking your language, that's fine. Sweden, Norway and Denmark all speak a different language, although somewhat similar, but our population is around 20m combined. We HAVE to know another language.
>they use english words and expression in the middle of otherwise fully french sentences
That is pretty infuriating in any language and just tells how that person is a massive pleb especially when there are perfectly valid expression for that thing in the language they're supposed to be speaking.
at least there are jobs in his country, "lol"
I saw this Swedish band Opeth when they came to Vancouver like last year and the singer honestly sounded almost like a native speaker when he was talking
>How can people there speak fluent english like a native at the age of 14 ?
Here's the secret, Pierre, nobody can speak fluent English like a native. The best you can do is be fluent in a regional dialect. God help you as soon as you leave your bubble, though. Mutual intelligibility is 80%, at best, and you'd better hope the guy you're talking to isn't an asshole because you didn't know what he meant by "grip Mickey at the Cee-Bo."
The only politicians forcing that shit are from Fenno-Sw*doid party, which pretty much has that one agenda and thus been pretty successful despite being one of the smallest parties in parliament. Basically free votes for the governing party as long they play along with that one issue.
there are too in france, are you lazy rsa leecher maybe ?
>hk
I'm sure they've been moving in mainlanders for years
O N L I N E
V I D E O G A M E S
Well all large companies are international businesses so you need to be able to speak with people from other countries. You also need to be able to use software or read articles that aren't available in Danish.
Obviously this only counts for jobs that require a higher education. I mean we probably have lots of Eastern Europeans working here in crappy jobs that can't speak either Danish or English.
the grammar plays a huge role. i """learned""" spanish in school for 3 years and i can barely say "my name is"
Something interesting to note about English is that the past and present plural of "to be" wasn't always "are". "Are" was introduced to northern English, when it was still a distinct dialect to the southern forms, from some form of Old Norse, "are" and Swedish "är" are both cognates derived from the proto-Germanic *arun/*wesaną, whereas "be" is from *beuną. At one time all of southern English would say "they be" for the present plural, but at some point a northern English that must have been heavily creolised with Norse won over and replaced the verb form, as you never hear "be" used that way outside small parts of the West Country any more.
...Okay, perhaps it isn't THAT interesting. But it is to my mind, at least.
this and the english at school too desu
I found it interesting user, d-do you have a boyfriend?
So you are still getting cucked by a bunch of Swedish speaking Finns who have nothing to do with Sweden or Swedes and this makes you lash out in impotent rage against Swedes? huh...
they are much more exposed to anglophone media
in Italy education is generally pretty bad, but a major reason for most people not being able to put an english sentence together is that nearly everything around us is still in Italian and people like it that way
even american movies are still dubbed and people just won't watch stuff with subtitles
you don't become fluent in a language just by studying it at school few hours a week
>ou can't communicate with people outside your own country
Good. We don't like you outsiders.
because dubbing is much more expensive to do than just writing subtitles, it's only worth it if you have a large enough audience. english has been the dominant language in movies/TV because of hollywood and pop music originated in the anglosphere.
the shift from people not being able to speak english to pretty much everyone matches up nicely with people being able to afford TV's and stereos.
nowadays, people are even better because of video games (usually not subtitled in swedish = forced to learn english)
>weak culture
great argument
Curiously, there isn't any distinction between plural and singular "to be" in scandi languages.
For a couple of hundred years Danes and Norwegians settled in the isles. The Danes in particular ruled bits of England. English syntax has many similarities with Norwegian, and many English words have Nordic origins.
