logographic languages are fucking stupid, especially ones with like 3 or 4 different systems like japanese

you'll need at least jlpt n2 level, which takes a year minimum but usually 2-3 years

I know Japanese well enough to watch anime without looking at subtitles 80% of the time. Kanji is another story though, you forget them pretty quickly if you don't read Japanese regularly.
