Pinochet

What are actual Chileans thoughts on him? Is the common view positive or negative. Posting on Sup Forums instead of Sup Forums because they'll probably only give meme responses

Why are edgy teenagers from the west obsessed with praising dictators their countries installed?
Exhibit A

Why is uncle Pinochet so known in the internet?

It's because of his uniform? He has some funny name for anglos maybe?

Most people do see him in a negative light, though the discussions on the dictatorship have cooled down in the last years.

Allende was superior, only edgy teens think muh helicopter meme man was any good

>Why is uncle Pinochet so known in the internet?
Underaged Sup Forumsdditors think he’s “fucking based!” because he was anti communist.

I said CHILEANS

This

only south americans are allowed to post in cold war thread, leave now.

Like every latin american dictator during the 70's

Both Chileans agree with me

my understanding is that he was a brutal toward dissenters but also genuinely concerned with improving the plight of his people, making him a nuanced leader. is this accurate, chileanbros?

Pinochet is a CIA shit
And the Chicago boys were also sponsored by the CIA

his people were the rich ones though

If by "his people", you mean American corporate interests then yes

He didn't actually throw live commies out of helicopters that was just a way of getting rid of bodies

No, he was a fag who sold everything he could rip from the walls to the US the moment he could. He personally embezzled millions of dollars.

45 percent voted for him in a plebecite in 1988

i have seen people attribute chile's recent economic successes to his leadership. is this inaccurate?

A filthy narco dictator.

This

I have a textbook that says part of his success was from the land reform initiated by Allende and that Pinochet kept elite interests somewhat at bay. And he tried to privatize the lines to foreign companies but few took him up on the offer because they were concerned about stability. It's words not mine.

Possibly. He actually reversed a lot of his neoliberal policies after they failed. His later reforms were part of what made Chile rich though.

*mines

Wasn't it the copper?

>he think a filthy illiterate "huaso" (cowboy) with zero knowledge about economics, politics and good leadership is the responsible for our economic success since 90'.

wew

>What is 18 years of politic stability, short-term, medium-term and long term policies and making TLC with every possible nation on planet earth.

Positivo por estupefaciente seniores!

i don't think anything, friend, i'm just a dumb american relaying what i've heard. now enlighten me or embolden my ignorance.

Pinochet is pretty much hated by the common people. Even far right politicians try to distance from his image. The very few politicians who dare to speak well of Pinochet are deemed as fascist loonies.

Are there statues or streets named after him anywhere?

Yep. He privatized the copper industry early on, but re-nationalized it later because it wasn't doing too well.

No. It would cause chaos.
He was cremated when he died because his tomb would have been vandalized everyday.

I'd say the common view is negative, but not immensely so. "hate" is a pretty big overstatement, only communists an still care about the guy. My personal view of him is pretty neutral, what a lot of his internet idolizers won't mention is that he was an embezzling scumbag.

I read an article of a chilean economist who said Pinochet's "ladrillo" (the dictatorship "constitution" from what i understand) actually had exclusive (and too complex) parts of how to redistribute wealth, that the "Concertación" party who was center-left was the real impeller of the chilean model, but it can be wrong, i read it a long ago.

people see him with a negative light, but not so much, and when you see the shit some of the actual politicians pull these days, i hear every once in a while the phrase,¨this wouldn't have happened with my general pinochet in charge¨ usually as a joke, but not always

So what do current conservatives campaign on in Chile now? Low taxes?

new constitution made by the people, and remove pension system, first point being completely retarded, which is why they lost to piñera

Aren't pensions already privatized?

He said conservatives, aka chilran right wing.
Nothing really. They campaign saying they'll "create new jobs", "make the economy grow", but overall, they try to scare people into thinking Chilean left wing will turn Chile into Venezuela.

oh shit you're right
sorry famalam, got confused there, they basically offer a non retarded 4 years program, left wing shoot themselves in the foot too many times, right wing just had to keep quiet to win, which they did

Give citizen to unskilled Haitians

...

He's considered based capitalist dictator who btfoed socialism.

There is no common view. Either you hate him or love him depending who you ask to
