Do you think Disney would ever take a shot at traditional animation again? If so, how do you think they would market it, and how much would Gen-X nostalgia play into the appeal?

Disney isn't going to do it. Right now they only care about rehashing movies they already made. Just look at Pete's Dragon. If they're Jungle Book remake taught me anything, it's that they're going to remove most of the uplifting and happy parts for a more emotional and realistic experience, while throwing in a ton of edgy scenes. I don't want to watch a "remastered" version of a movie i watched 200+ times as a kid, I want a new movie to watch where I don't know the plot already.

Are you calling the live action Jungle Book bad?

Worse that the original, that's for sure

it was mediocre at best

though I personally really enjoyed scarlett johansson and Christopher Walken's performances

Didn't Home on the Range more or less destroy any chances of them ever making a traditionally animated movie ever again?

What was so bad about it?

>what is Princess and the Frog
>what is Winnie the Pooh

>having taste this bad

Oh yeah. Silly me.

>yfw the only traditional animated movie made by a major studio is going to be the MLP movie

>Winnie the Pooh
I'm surprised somebody remembered this exists

like 5 years too late

not even bronies gonna watch it

Now you've done it user

Sorry user, but they've already announced live-action remakes/prequels/retellings of
>Beauty and the Beast
>101 Dalmatians
>Peter Pan (two films)
>Dumbo
>Mulan
>Winnie the Pooh
>Pinocchio
>Aladdin
>Fantasia
>Sword in the Stone
>Snow White
>The Black Cauldron
>Plus sequels to Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Maleficent.
Better get comfy, the live-action remake phase of Disney ain't stopping any time soon.

you're joking right? Bronies ate fucking Equestria Girls

>Plus sequels to Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Maleficent.

Isn't MLP:FIM and Equestria Girls movies done in Flash?

inb4 Eddie Redmayne

our only hope is Laika they are interested in making a 2D movie.

Ernest and Celestine was done in flash, but damn it was so well stylized.

>Beauty and the Beast
Okay, that might be decent
>101 Dalmatians
No
>Peter Pan (two films)
Eh, maybe
>Dumbo
Fuck no
>Mulan
Maybe good
>Winnie the Pooh
Oh shit nigger what are you doing
>Pinocchio
No
>Aladdin
Meh
>Fantasia
No
>Sword in the Stone
Maybe
>Snow White
I guess
>The Black Cauldron
No thank you
>Plus sequels to Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Maleficent.
What the fuck

>live action remake of 101 Dalmations

LITERALLY W H Y

WE ALREADY GOT THAT LIKE TWENTY YEARS AGO

Yeah, but the movie's apparently going to use Toon Boom.

Speaking as one, that is pure bullshit

I think there's a good chance that Disney will make another 2D film in the future; the question is how long. I could see one happening within the next decade.

However, the generation of kids who will watch this film when it releases (because it sure as hell won't skate by appeal to the older demo alone) will have little to no contact with traditional animation. As such, I would expect that they will play it very, very safe--something highly derivative of their previous films, not more original like Zootopia.

isn't their new movie Gigantic going to be hand drawn?

nope, you're probably just remembering the concept art they showed

aww

...

...

Like that isn't going to be CGI

It fucking sucked.

The original wasn't even that good.

I hate Disney so fucking much.

Hot opinion

Fantasia 2000 started production just as the Disney Renaissance started and came out just as it ended.

Considering that Disney has gotten its mojo back after the lackluster 2000-2008 period I'd love to see Disney make a 3rd Fantasia movie. I'd like to see such a movie use all types of different styles: traditional animation, CGI, Paperman style, and even stop-motion which Disney has only ever done before in obscure shorts and The Nightmare Before Christmas (which doesn't really count).

Will he be able to handle a remastered version?

both are shit and the Russian animated Jungle Book movie is the best version

The danger for Disney in the realm of 2d animation, is that the world is entering an era in which anyone with a home PC can do it. Preventing future new competitors means moving the normal into something more expensive to do properly.

Is he /ourguy/?

Not until he admits lusting over underage girls

Imagine if Disney wanted to get Eddie to voice act in one of their movies or something. It makes sense: he's a charismatic young actor, already got an Oscar under his belt. So they send his agent an email or however it works in the business.

A meeting is arranged between the producers of the film and Eddie. He says he'll do the part, and now it becomes a matter of payment. They offer him the standard celebrity voice actor sum, but Eddie immediately shoots it down. They ask him what he has in mind, so he leans in and whispers to them:

"I don't want a cent of your money. What I want you to do is get the artists and animators that worked on The Lion King. Never mind if they don't work the company anymore, use whatever means to bring them back. They're going to create, for my own personal use, a motion-picture quality animated porno featuring the character Nala. And none of this softcore bullshit. Genuine, anatomically accurate feline puss. Hot human-on-animated-lion-action. Twenty minutes at least. I want to be able to tell my girlfriend that I'm busy tonight, lock myself in my mansion, and pleasure myself to the most artistically accomplished hand-drawn erotica that mankind has ever seen, and I'll be the only one to witness it. Do that, and I'll do your movie."

>live action fantasia
Are you fucking serious

I'd like to solve the puzzle
i want to fuck it

Sorry for hispanic scribbles, it was one of the only intact copies I could find on Youtube.

same desu

more Jungle Book adaptations could do with a fem-Bagheera

>Not the Chuck Jones version
Take your awful taste elsewhere

>mfw the next fantasia movie will be 100% CGI

Doesn't sound so bad to me

Funny thing is it's not like something similar hasn't happened before. John Waters asked an animator working on Alvin and the Chipmunks for a sketch of Alvin jacking off, and a while later he ended up having a cameo in one of the movies.

wut

Your fanbase is dead, get over it. Once actually good girls shows like Steven Universe came out people stopped treating it with kids gloves and it never stood a chance.

...

Whoa, I already ate friendo

Big budget traditionally animated movies are dead. Just be super bitter and post anti-cgi stuff like me.

Jin-Roh and the Patlabor movies were so fucking good.

>the generation of kids who will watch this film when it releases...will have little to no contact with traditional animation

I'm not 100% sure how we're defining "traditional" in this thread, but on Sup Forums it seems to be used to refer to simply "2D" (as in, "yeah, but it still LOOKS traditional, so that's the main point").

But most TV cartoons still seem to be 2D, and it's not like older traditional Disney movies are some forgotten media or never shown on TV anymore or some shit. Parents show kids classic Disney movies all the time, they'll probably watch them in school or on television or own copies themselves, etc.

I know Sup Forums would love to fantasize that most kids are only to used to seeing CGI animation and that something 2D would BLOW THEIR MINDS, but I don't think that's really the case for most kids.

I know the real argument at hand is that most animated films made recently and shown in the largest proportion of theaters are CGI, but apparently that's because adults too are more likely to take their kids to that over 2D animation, for whatever reason.

Something like Song of the Sea?

>no remake of the Fox and the Hound
phew

source: my ass

>101 Dalmatians
We've already gotten one
>Dumbo
wut
>Winnie the Pooh
Why?
>Pinocchio
I think a non-Disney version already exists
>Aladdin
Could be decent if done right
>Fantasia
wut
>The Black Cauldron
Talk about bottom of the barrel

>I dont know how to use google, so you're a liar
Don't deny the future, user. All of those were actually announced.

There was already a live action remake of 101 dalmatians, secuel included, they have no shame.

anyone with a pc and 1 to 5 years worth of drawing. Tweened flash animarion don't count for theatrical.

france sometimes deliver mid budgetes 2d movies. I still want to find online the Long Way Nort. That Adele movie is decent.

I think it's less about Sup Forums fantasizing as it is Sup Forums feeling victimized that the 2D animation they're so attached to is "being killed".

Nope, SpongeBob 3.

I'm excited for the idea of a live action Mulan

10/10 tastes.

>*Heavy Breathing*

>Zootopia

I keep seeing it on Sup Forums, but never been a fan of furry movies since they all suck.It made me curious though.

What's it about?

It seems to be only an adaptation of the Night on Bald Mountain.

Mite be cool

Animal cops battle systemic racism

I wish I understood this reference

>jungle book
>remove the happy and uplifting parts

you mean like the animated did with the book?

you can't find 90% of those anywhere on google. Disney has all its announced projects all over the internet. nice try.

youtube.com/watch?v=btUx3gb0-FE

For Mulan we better get some actual chinks instead of a mix of gooks and nips.
I'd rage so hard if Shang was played by some Indian slime.

>Western 2D animation
wake me up when they can make something better looking than a 40 sec trailer

>fuck off back to Sup Forums with your weebshit

Patlabor in general was fucking great. Noa is best

I saw bronies switching from pony to Zootopia thinking it's going to be the next big thing, how deluded.

This man spilled his spaghetti hard on national television, and he knows it.

Disney is dead set on sweeping Zootopia under the rug for no apparent reason.

You're over exaggerating, that small movie had its run, besides it was about racism, Disney has bad history with movies that touch this difficult subject, they just play it safe.
