What are Sup Forums's thoughts on Ennis' Crossed?

What are Sup Forums's thoughts on Ennis' Crossed?
I'm only a few issues in.

Spurrier's Wish You Were Here is the best crossed story by far.

Not enough gay incest action.

Read something else, user.

Edgy waste of time.

It's honestly amazing. All I heard was how all of crossed was just gorn for the sake of gorn and then I read that and it's legitimately one of my favorite comics.

Did they ever explain anything? What the hell happened that set off all this shit?

Literally just edgy.

If you just wanna see some edgy shit, you're golden.

Garth Ennis is the Seth Rogen of comic books. Avoid his comicy books like you would avoid black people.

Left it intentionally vague, but hinted strongest at a planetary self-preservation event ala The Happening.

Crossed is a lot smarter than images like the OP would have you believe and some of the stories are genuinely enthralling.

However, the latter half of the run of Badlands ended pretty much like this - totally defeatist and flat involving unsympathetic characters and some dumb twist thrown in poorly.

i only hear bad shit about this series. so what are some of the other good stories besides that web one.

Mostly dissapointing, simply because they focus too much on the edgyness to actually tell a consistent and interesting tale. There are some good stories, nonetheless.

>some dumb twist thrown in poorly
god dammit, if this isnt the truth
if you're going to read a Crossed story, read the one about the hippie and the biker riding across the desert to get to Vegas to die
the Hippie wants to die ODing on a super drug, while the biker wants to get revenge on some asshole who killed his gang i think

honestly, it was a fantastic story, but then at the LAST FUCKING PAGE it suddenly decided to fuck everything up with some edgy-as-fuck gory twist with the fate of one of the characters meant to shock the audience while really just dampening the great story before it

I agree, however it was kind of tongue in cheek in a way if you read the word panels.
>and nothing was learned

It started picking up again towards the end of its run. I loved the Smokey arc, going from a terrifying warlord to a henpecked husband with two bitch wives that convince his son to try kill him.

Poor bastard went through an existential crisis.

I liked some of the stories

When they come across those smart ones you know everything is going to be fucked up

I heard Smoky comes back but I was never able to find out if this was true or just a rumor

QUICK

SOMEONE POST THE DOLPHIN PIC

YOU KNOW THE ONE

...

Ennis' run is pretty great, I think. If you cut out all of the gore, it would still be a good story. Can easily compare to early Walking Dead.

No happy endings. Sets up hope through the characters before destroying every last one of them. Everyone dies, that's the rule, even the noble and just. Very nihilistic outlook. It's a basic formula and it must be a shit tonne of fun to write the stories set in this shitty world.

...

I want to read it, but I mostly read comics on the train and I don't know if I want to be spotted reading this. Dilemma.

You're welcome.

He did nothing wrong.

I've read all crossed available and I love it
I mean most of it is trash, but I can still enjoy it for its ridiculousness and gore
Every now and then there's a little nugget of gold in the shitpile tho, wish you were is one of my favorite comics out there

>most of it is trash, but I can still enjoy it for its ridiculousness and gore
Pity that Sup Forums never understood this. They probably were expecting Gaiman or Mignola.

Forgot which issues it was, but the "homo tortor" story was also bretty gud.

Agreed. Gillen surprisingly did a good job.

Old Sup Forums disliked for the mindless edgy crap it was it but nu-Sup Forums loves it.

>mindless edgy crap
But old Sup Forums grew up with 90s Image and Marvel!

>Sup Forums
>Ever able to have fun

The edgy meme needs to die.

Absolutely terrible

Smokey? Do you mean Shakey?

Wish you were here was the only one I read. Was entertaining but incredibly dumb.

It is the epitome of tryhard edgelord garbage

Old Sup Forums liked it. Where were you in the mid-2000s where people were actually hopeful but cautious of the non-Enis writers (big mistake but still)?

So are slasher movies. Do you ever walk up to people who like them and go "IT'S ALL EDGY SHIT"?

Some slasher movies are edgelord garbage so are genuine schlock some are actually scary.
Crossed has zero value other than SHOCKING NORMIES!!!!
If you are older than 15 it has nothing to offer.

...

I don't know what kind of obscure 3deep psychological slasher movies you've seen but nobody likes the more popular ones because they're "scary". If you're using age as an argument but never marathoned the whole Friday the 13th series with friends then I don't know what to tell you.

Plus you're completely oblivious if you think it's not tongue in cheek, especially coming from Ennis and Spurrier.

There's a huge difference between shouting unsolicited opinions at strangers, and answering the OP on a comics board. Don't be a fag.

>shouting unsolicited opinions at strangers, and answering the OP on a comics board
The former is the brave thing to do. The latter is cowardly.

Not what I was getting at, although actual Crossed threads always have a few of those people too.

>I don't know what to tell you
you never did. ;)

>not being able to enjoying a comic where some guy blowhole-fucks a dolphin while singing about his momma because you're so insecure about liking anything "edgy"
>not being able to enjoy schlock
>taking things this seriously
Boy I'm glad I'm not you

>Anonymous (31) 08/29/16(Mon)14:38
Nice non-samefagging, bro.

The definition of edgy.

>trying to rewrite history

Eh, whatever. I don't have time to argue with Ennisfags anyway

>it's ironic! therefore it's good!

so it has even less value since is made to be shit on purpose, good you have such low standards you can enjoy this but don't try to argue you are better than people that don't want to touch this intellectual poison

If you're too autistic to understand why anyone would ever want to read or watch ridiculous shit for laughs then that's a personal problem.

>intellectual poison

Dear lord you're a caricature.

>I don't know what kind of obscure 3deep psychological slasher movies you've seen

Halloween?
Psycho?
The first Nightmare on Elm Street?

Are you seriously calling fucking Nightmare on Elm Street scary? Are you saying nobody ever watches it for the silliness?

The first one WAS scary, then they flanderized the franchise

Can I say that I really enjoy the Ennis stories? Most of them feel like they have a point, and the characters don't act as stupidly as they do in other stories. (I think 'The Fatal Englishman' and 'Patient Zero' are not good stories, but they're really fun to read.)

Personally, I think my favorite one is the first Badlands arc by Ennis.

The protagonist in that one does everything right. Really, he does: He acts the way a highly intelligent everyman would. He has no attachments he can't abandon, he attachs himself to a competent group, he makes sure his own survival is paramount.

And he dies, because you can do everything right and still die in the end. It never felt unfair or arbitrary.

>Can I say that I really enjoy the Ennis stories?
Enjoying something Sup Forums doesn't? HERESY!

I still prefer Spurrier's but Ennis' are okay. Except Patient Zero, that was unsatisfying as fuck. Unusual for him.

I've read the first mini and #1-3 of Badlands because Ennis wrote them and I enjoyed them.
Going to read Moore's arc at some point.

>No happy endings
false. The very first story with them - the whole overall story arc with Horsecock - has a nice ending. Sure, it's left very open, but still implied that they probably make it out.

Really, I thought of Patient Zero more as a kind of action movie with hard men making hard decisions. Harry, the protagonist, and his buddies clearly don't hail from the same universe the rest of the setting does. It's like they're the cast of one of Garth Ennis' War Stories comics (Which are great, by the way) or the Punisher Max stories where Frank meets other soldiers, and they're puzzled and out of depth by the faintly ridiculous bullshit they've run into.

>y-y-ou are just autistic! there is nothing wrong with liking bad stuff! it's ironic anyway!

Like I said keep wallowing in your shit but don't act like you are on the same level or better than people that don't want to stick their hands in shit.

>dude it's for fun! people do it! therefore it's okay!

Grow up

>first Badlands arc
I've wanted to read it for ages, but I've not found a single Badlands comic yet.

>Grow up
He said, in a Sup Forums board...

>being this mad
Tell me, boy: what deep, intellectual horror graphic novels can you recommend?

Sorry that not everyone is as refined and mature as you, user. I bet we'll learn the error of our ways once we turn 19 like you.

>Grow up

Oh shit so he did come back after all

Or he genuinely doesn't like edgy shit being vomited on a page.

Nah, he clearly feels like way too superior of a human being to be able to enjoy the simpler things in life
like someone fucking a dolphin in the blowhole

>user gets offended at a gory comic
>KEEPS READING IT INSTEAD OF DROPPING IT

>people should comment on things they don't know

And you seem to know the Crossedverse very well...

This shit happens every goddam week. Someone asks for opinions on Crossed. Obviously negative opinions show up. Crossedfags come out of the woodwork to bitch at anyone who doesn't like it.

I can only presume they are just insecure about what they know is their own shitty tastes.

>Obviously negative opinions show up.
More like people who got so offended that they will hate anyone who dares reading a single page of the book. Insecure indeed :)

it's pretty shallow, and other people's self-indulgent torture porn is never as good as what you write for yourself

>What is your opinion on X?
>I don't particularly like X because Y.
>HOLY SHIT FUCK OFF YOU TRIGGERED LITTLE BITCH!

>I don't particularly like X because Y
Yep, triggered.

>all just opinions
You aren't helping your case.

You mean your opinions aren't facts? Despite being the most intelligent man in Sup Forums? Oh man.

What are you even trying to say?

Does anyone actually get triggered by crossed or any of ennis's stuff? He's so bad at communicating emotion and character that any sort of gore scene is inevitably flat and boring.

Good thread guys. Very well done. If only more threads had quality discussion like this it would be a better board for everyone.

>Does anyone actually get triggered by crossed or any of ennis's stuff?
Yes: the user who uses the word "edgy" all the time.

And the next will be even better, thanks to TriggeredAnon.

Yeah you're not exactly helping either bud.

There are no words for how much I des[ise it and everything it represents. I liked Hellblazer back in the day, but I'll never read anything he does again.

Interesting premise that's had its reputation bogged down by some subpar side stories by other writers. The good news is that other side stories have had excellent writers and it shows in their stories, specifically Spurrier on Wish You Were Here and Alan Moore on Crossed +100. I'm actually a big fan of Moore's work in the franchise because of how well he developed a world where civilization began to restructure itself after the Crossed event.

>some people discussing Crossed
>suddenly some user goes ANYONE WHO LIKES THIS SHOULD DIE
>have fun with him
Yeah, I'm not.

I think you just don't understand the word.

You could have just ignored him. I bet you anything he wouldn't have made nearly as many posts if you hadn't kept replying to him.

But then I guess I need to take my own advice now, not that it matters at this point.

true

I never said you should die, I am not an edgy moron otherwise I would like Crossed.

>edgy
See? There he goes again.

>comic full of gore and extreme violence for no purpose other than cheap shock value
>not edgy

it's one of the few instance where that word applies.

Lucky that you're here to tell us not to read it, TriggeredAnon.

read Wish You Were Here and +100 and don't worry too much about the rest

I think most people write it off as "pure edgyness" but there's some nice themes buried underneath the gore.

Underrated imo

How ever this may only be true of the original run. Haven't read anything else.

Crossed is good fun if you're not a squeamish hipster. There's a pretty good amount of subtle social commentary that's missing from the zombie apocalypse genre nowadays.

Ennis' initial run is good. Moore's Crossed +100 is pretty good as well.

OP here. Who would have thought that a straightforward question would lead to bickering and name calling on Sup Forums?
I'm a bit farther along now. It's pretty good, but the nature of the infected can be sort of tiresome as I read it in longer sittings.
"Oh, so she pulled her unborn infant out of her uterus and is eating it, huh" Are some of my reactions after a while.
But overall I like the characterization and storytelling. Pretty engaging.

>it's for real men like me and not nu-male cucks!!

You just triggered

I personally look at the infected with a sort of "what will they think of next" outlook, you get saturated by the gore fairly quickly imo, it's not for the chock for me at all
