I use xmedia recode. It has an auto-crop feature. I use a constant bitrate and set the resolution lower for longer clips. You have to get familiar with all the settings yourself

Something with a lot of action/smoke/lighting effects will really chew it up
Best idea is to resize it down so it naturally uses less
