National hunt for wild board in Finland has reported that 7 wild boars was succesfully hunted.
Eventhough 7 boars is not much, this was needed because the boars multiply rapidly in Finland where they have no natural enemies except for man. But the boars are clever and very difficult to hunt.
It has been estimated there is 3150 boars in Finland. Few decades ago there were none. For some reason the wild boar found its way to Finland from Russia and has been very successful despite attempts at hunting it down. One of the reasons is that there are only few wolves in Finland so the boars have virtually no enemies. The Finnish lynx is afraid to approach them eventhough it is a large cat. The wolverines live so far north that they wont encounter the boars anyway.
A permission has been given to kill all the boars in Finland. You only need a general hunting license.

If I remember correctly you don't need a hunting license at all to hunt boars in Sweden.
So I think it's fully legal to just pop out with a crossbow or something and get some fresh pork if you want to. If they are in season.

here we have a lot since colonial times (spaniards would often do stuff like exploring a river by ship, and release animals there event if it wasnt a colonized and no man left the ship, placed yet, so that whenever they decided to settle it, even decades later, the place would have cattle and horses and pigs etc)
Dogs and knife is pretty common in new zealand also but more in the thick native bush than the open terrain. You can't really see more than 30m in there and pigs can easily run from you or charge, but dogs will back them into a corner and bark or physically hold them depending on how they are trained. I can walk from by backyard and find them back home
A charging pig or two is also a good justification for hunters to keep their semi autos if they are using firearms, the good gun laws there are focused on hunting rather than paranoia and self defense issues, it's very popular to take pigs and deer for food.
My face when I will never see wild boar in nature because they killed them all before they reached this part of the country.
