Netflix users who already pay to access the service could be about to see their monthly price plans rise...

>Netflix users who already pay to access the service could be about to see their monthly price plans rise, as some US states consider a tax on streaming content online.
>The levy is being considered in states across the US, which could see taxes on subscription fees for the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu of around $1 per month each.
>The tax, which would allow local governments to tap into another revenue stream, is already due to come into effect in Chicago, Pennsylvania and Florida, but now it is reported that California, Alabama, Louisiana and West Virginia are also considering the added fee.
>Municipal governments that are pushing for the tax defend the initiative by claiming that online streaming is essentially the same as video rental from bygone brick and mortar stores such as Blockbuster Video, which were taxed at the time.

Thoughts on this? They're not wrong, streaming services don't charge taxes which makes them unfairly cheaper to Redbox and movie theaters which isn't fair to those businesses.

I'll just pirate then.

you're already paying a tax by exorbitant prices paid to cable companies to get access to a big enough pipe.

I wonder how many people will suddenly become libertarian once they hear this

This is entirely because of ISP's lobbying congressmen. They raise charges to consumers, pocket a hefty profit, and refuse to upgrade their infrastructure.

mock britbongs having the option to pay a tv license

literaly have to pay a netflix license

I've been pirating all my media for like two decades now. Won't affect me.

Meanwhile I continue to pirate for Free in best available quality.

This news have been out for a few days. No one really cares since it's $1 expect for the average broke 4 chan user.

I steal everything I have so it won't bother me.

jews gonna jew

>first net neutrality
>now taxes on streaming

What the fuck? I was told Trump would clean up corporate lobbyist bullshit

They already tax my internet, they are trying to kill net neutrality, they tax soda, they tax all internet purchases. Rent and property taxes are at an alltime high while wages and salaries are stagnent.

“Why dont people go to the movies anymore? Why are millenials killing every industry besides Amazon and ISPS?”

Gee i wonder why

How can i become an educated neet? Im tired of the rat race. Just need enough cash to go to the bar once a week

I dont think you can get autism as an adult

>wahhh duh prices
>literally pays extra dollary doos for the alcoholic jew

no sympy for you. glad you get shit on

>piracy
>phoneposting

this says it all

Libertarianism is a meme Victorian England showed us how shit people Conditions people's live would be like. You want to have a twopennyhangover as a bed?

GOVERNMENT OUT REEEEEEEEEE

Sometimes it really does feel like jumping into a dark hole and staying there is better than seeing all the fucked up dumb shit day after day.

I'm jewing the jews every step of the way. You should never pay for anything that you can get for free. FACT.

lolamericans

More taxes, why not? Just tax anything with no reason

>Educated
>Neet

I'm already mad they tax online stores, even though they aren't based in the same state.

Go watch some netflix, priness.

>Get taxed on something you already pay for

America trying to out jew the BBC

>all these taxes
>waste it shitty military projects that don't even work
>meanwhile, infrastructure is crumbling and no national healthcare

Someone get me the fuck outta here

I am educated. Im an adult who lives away from mommy and daddy. I want to give up this life and live off the govt like half this board.

Hey, at least they can't tax your corpse... or can they

republicans are the ones pushing against net neutrality because muh unfair regulations
Democrats are the ones pushing for this tax because muh unfair free market

basically everyone is shit

It's called inheritance tax

The land of the free, lads
Taxes on oxygen when?

Heh, I'll just continue streaming free with my multi plex of mirrors and switches to leave no trail ;)

fucking statists. STOP STEALING MY MONEY YOU FUCKS

How am I supposed to post here while taking a shit?

And there is nothing wrong with piracy, only cuckolds pay for media.

net neutrality is objectively bad

Estate tax although it doesn't really impact you at all unless you die with $12 million or more in assets

So maybe Netflix can go to a "download the movie/show fully before watching so that it's not technically streaming for less money"-option then. Or are they going to tax any kind of downloading?

*death

net neutrality is what caused the ISP oligopoly in the first place, retard.

>and refuse to upgrade their infrastructure.

I don't get this, because it's usually the tax payers that pay for upgrading the infrastructure anyway. All the ISP have to do is pester the local government like they usually do.

wtf I love corporate cock raping my public developed technologies now

sup brian

The streaming dream is dead anyway, with every publisher starting their own service (HBO, soon Disney and surely WB to follow) it's becoming so inconvenient to stream again that it's both easier and far cheaper to pirate. There was a short time where the convenience of Netflix made up for the price but thanks to jewish publishers and Netflix wanting to spend billions on their mostly garbage original programming we've come back to the problem Netflix was originally supposed to solve anyway. I'm sure there'll still be profits to be made but I also think a lot of people are going to go back to piracy again if they haven't already as the Netflix library gets shittier and shittier.

how so?

The internet's back bone is public. Kys.

(You)

Yes, let's give ISPs an option to block entire sites and make the internet second television shitfest, which is a big part of television decline in the first place.

Can't wait to pay more for something I am already paying for.

FUCK ME, I am a retard. for a moment I thought that net neutrality is against freedom.

Net neutrality is a good thing objectively, my bad.

it's against the freedom of natural monopolies to rape you in the ass

I live in east europe and only one dude in five that have netflix actually pays for it

the rest of us get these shared accounts we pay $2 dollars for

Dunno how thats profitable but I can live with that, wouldn't pay 10 dolla for sure

it is against freedom but a bad kind of freedom. this basically

Publishers are trying to kill streaming anyway because they all want to create their own streaming platforms

for those of you who pirate media, what precautions do you go through

>they're not wrong

Yes they are wrong.

Taxes should be as low as possible so people can actually thrive and live their lives.

Governments are bloated cancerous tumors that destroy wealth.

Fuck you OP

wtf i love virtually no difference in behavior because Google already bans and restricts everything but people on welfare can still ruin social media now

>the price of streaming continues going up while the selection goes down

This shit is why I now pirate my shows

I go through the precaution of not living in a cuckold country.

>who cares, it's just a small tax
>who cares, it's just a small tax pt2
>who cares, it's just a small tax pt3
>who cares, it's just a small tax pt4
>who cares, it's just a small tax pt5
>who cares, it's just a small tax pt6
>who cares, it's just a small tax pt7

slippery slope is a fallacy dude come on

If they tax internet services, streaming is just the tip of the iceberg.

Vidya comes next, then social media, etc

US

Hahahahahahahhahhahahhahahahaa

calling arguments fallacies is a literal fallacy, retard

congrats you lost at your own retarded game

the difference is you would get throttled going on non-pozzed sites like Sup Forums assuming they didn't just lock you out entirely

>slippery slope is a fallacy
Hellooooooo, JEW!

>slippery slope
>fallacy

Pick one, dumbfuck. Numerous real world examples of this. I'd love to know what's fallacious about this in your world of wikipedia articles and community college courses.

TAXATION IS THEFT

>no national healthcare
Do you really think socialist medicine can work in this country? Far too many fat people, shitskins, single mothers, and other leeches that the entire system will quickly collapse. We're not some small white European country.

>tfw you make an obvious joke but it's a tax thread and none of the autists get it

You all laughed at the UK for TV licenses. Well, who's laughing now?

They did this in my country.

There is no way to justify the sales tax here - they just did it because the government are Jews.

But I'm going to drop Netflix for unrelated reasons anyway.

I never understood why slippery slope is a fallacy.

>make fun of 140 pound a year tv license
>get this even more expensive alternative
get fucked burgers

video games are taxed, social media isn't paid for

isn't porn illlegal in bong land already?
it's claimed its a fallacy because you can't truly know what the peoples' motivations are kinda like that Sup Forums mspaint comic of a guy shitting on a plate

Netflix already takes tax...

>tfw you make an obvious joke

I'm not so sure about that anymore.

It seems a lot of corporations are benefitting from the monopoly provided by net-neutrality, while at the same excusing their behavior with "muh free market".

Then again, it's not like google would be threatened by net-neutrality, they'd just buy up all the bandwidth from the ISP.

>VIOLATING THE NAP

UM NO SWEETIE

Free-market MOTHERFUCKERS. Shadilay! Praise Kekistan!

No, that's noram here too.

There's like 4 screens or something allowed. So I pay for Netflix, my roommate pays for another service, and we all just share them.

Not the guy you are talking to, but this sort of missed the point of this
There is going to be a day when you realize you are responsible for the things you guy and not corporations. No one is forcing you to pay for netflix if find it expensive.

There are only two certainties in life: death and taxes. Oh, just wait until every network starts their own streaming service, and you end up paying just as much, if not more, than you currently do for cable.

I know you're joking but god damn I fucking hate libertarians more than communists

>should we try something?
>naw let's give up and do nothing

Nice American """""""""""""exceptionalism"""""""""""""" you got there

The absolute state of America.

ITS ALREADY HAPPENING

DISNEY IS DOING ITS OWN NETFLIX

AND THEY HAVE THE NUCLEAR OPTION, SPORTS

>E S P N

>hating free markets
Why do you enjoy being poor and enslaved to bankers, corporations and the government?
Why do you love central banks so much?

It's technically not a fallacy, but it's used in a lot of fallacious arguments.

I saw a video with some lawyer explaining Slippery Slop and another variant which was about using the same logic that has been deemed acceptable for Situation "A" and applying it Situation "B"...when talking about precedents.

fpbp
govt can get their greedy greasy fingers off webservices

>implying free markets can exist with natural monopolies or even for extended periods of time

>actually paying for your own subscriptions and not just mooching off your family and friends accounts

We get extra for online purchases here. The tax is meant to be purely for purchaes of goods and services in your locality.

When asked HOW this applies to online purchases, they just said;

>It's not fair we don't get anything from it

>tfw strayan
>tfw I've never watched a single film or television show, since 2009
>tfw I'm free of the shitbox but not free of this place
>tfw shitposting is infinitely healthier and cheaper than the electric Jew, however

>Should we try something that is destined to fail due to various socioeconomic reasons?

No, we shouldn't, and you can't argue why without resorting to personal insults and appealing to emotion.

you dont pay taxes for playing mmos. specally foreight mmos or similar online games
social media is paid for. facebook's is a for-profit business

MPAA here we'll just lobby to tax any streamed data then

i wouldnt watch anything either with your download speeds

>tfw Americucks will need to pay an extra fee for the privilege of browsing their fetish porn because it's not 'vanilla' porn

Then regulate natural monopolies and let the rest of the economy be free market.
Problem solved.

>Trying to take on massive mediacorps that already have more bargaining power than you and own not just content networks that you have to buy into but also using your catalogues on their various shows
>picking a fight with them
>ever

Not going to happen. MPAA is feckless.

All working markets are regulated. There has never been a proven market without regulation.
