Government has its agenda. Multiple different press outlets all have their own separate agendas. Public are free to listen to whoever they want and consult all the different sources available to them to reach their conclusions on each individual issue.
Country without free press:
Government has its agenda. The press is owned by the government and thus shares its agenda. Public have only one source of information: the government. Alternative sources of information are vigorously oppressed and censored (see China for one of the worst-case examples where the internet operates under a whitelist of government-approved websites).

I wouldn't care either way, but you're wrong. SDF is the last leg the US has to stand on in Syria and can't afford to lose them.
Afrin was irrelevant in the fight against ISIS so Western forces have never been there or had anything to do with it. Western partnership with SDF extends only to fighting ISIS. Afrin was under Russian influence and Russia had its troops stationed there.

Turkey says to Americans, you should be working with us, not the Kurds. The west isn't going to do shit when Turkey btfo ypg and sdf. Same as Russia did like you said. They won't burn their connections to an 80 mil. mid east country with some serious military power. Neither the Russians nor the West will do that. sdf and ypg are irrelevant, they can flee to iraqi Kurdistan for all anyone cares.
