Most films regarding biblical stories are critically panned

Reddit is down the hall and to the left

Mel Gibson is a shitty director.

Why'd you circle the most correct rating of the 3?

I've never seen this. Is it unironically good or just something that devoted Christians fawn over solely because it depicts events in the bible that are very important to them?

Is it a Jewish conspiracy, or just proof that biblical stories don't work for film?

Pretty sure it's the ladder

the merchant obviously

Chaim Golbergsteinbergowitzenbaum

apocalypto was a pretty good flick

>blaming the jews for critically panning a movie about a jew

If you're into snuff films, I guess you'd like it. ..and i'm not even saying this in an edgy way or whatever.
This is literally a fucking snuff film where a guy gets violently tortured for an hour and a half.
I didn't understand what people liked about it.

I liked potc exactly because it was a snuff film. It was also tasteful and artistic. Snuff and art are not incompatible. Cannibal holocaust is the peak of the genre because its thoughtful and nuanced humanism.
Gorn like martyrs, the saw movies and hostel are the lowest of the low because there is no aesthetic sensibility or moral backbone

...

Have you seen Green Inferno yet?
Its this generations Cannibal Holocaust. Pretty fun stuff.

It tries to depict the enormity of the suffering he went through. I never get when people talk about Jesus being crucified that it should be tame and easy to watch. It's not meant to be likeable or enjoyable, the films purpose is to make you reflect on the potential pain he endured

How dare you sir, that's an insult of the highest caliber against Cannibal Holocaust.

I get it, I guess. Its still bizzare though.
A lot of people are into this Jesus guy, which is fine. And if you're into Jesus, you probably already know about the fucked up shit that happened before he died. But wasn't his shit more about what happened 'after' all that?
The resurrection?
Isn't watching all this shit kinda pointless, and against what he stood for in the first place?
(I don't know if I phrased that right, I hope you know what I mean here)

It tries to be shockingly brutal after a decade or more of desensitizing violence in movies and on TV and it worked, people were shocked.

this edgy af video
>implying any Christian doesn't know his name was closer to Joshua than Jesus
>implying any translation but paraphrased (NIV, NLT, ASV etc) don't mention him as Yshua
>hurr durr all christians are wrong because i dont understand how hte bible works

The Circle has 16% or something and is better than 15 films I've seen this year at least.

Mel Gibson is TBE

The original bad ass of the industry.

It's a shitty torture porn film. It's just not a good movie. But hey I'm sure this will be part of your "oppression of Christians" fantasy so have fun with that.

The movie simply had the gall to show a beating and crucifixion in a totally frank and realistic way and surprise surprise it's brutal (no, ya think?)

I can understand why some people would say it's just too much for them but it doesn't make it a bad movie.

Based Roger

That's why I loved him, he always cut through the political crap and gave any movie a fair chance.

People only the bashed the movie because it was the Dubya years and asshole liberals had it in for Christianity (much like today they have it in for white men)

Some critics with actual taste.

So it is just a movie for devoted Christians to fawn over solely because it depicts something important to them.

Same with Apocalypto

Srpski film has higher aesthetics than all and an actual meaning but peoplr still cant see past the content

based Roboter not bowing to the them

the ten commandments ins generally regarded as one of the greatest movies in cinema history. how is that?

get the gringo was pure kino and filmed on a shoestring budget

I think it helps a lot for none Christians to understand why Jesus is such a big deal for Christians

jews, retard

Now that we are on the topic of religious kino, what is some good religious kino? I've recently watched Silence and it satisfied a need I didn't know I have.

>you probably already know about the fucked up shit that happened before he died
I´m a devoted Christian and I had no idea that being crucified was gonna be that brutal. I think if you just read or talk about it, it is easy to overlook how disgusting and unimaginably horribly it must have been.
I mean it´s just a sentence, "And Jesus got crucified" you really don´t give it much a thought if you just learn about Jesus that way.
Also the reconstruction isn´t that important. It only showed the none believers what the true Christians already new before that. That he was the son of god. The Crucifixion is way more important since that is where "he died for our sins" and basically freed humanity of their original sin

...

The Ten Commandments and the Prince of Egypt are both two amazing takes on more or less the same religious story

A Serious Man.
You could also interpret it is as being anti-religion/aethiestic - but that's what makes it Kino.
A fantastic film with an intriguing story, good visuals, great acting, and a perfect soundtrack. The themes and messages presented are all open for interpretation, and people can have Very different thoughts on them. See Nerdwriters video, where everything is going great until he suddenly announces the film claims there's no God - which many in the comments didn't get at all.

Don't get me wrong, I liked a Serbian film, but I found it lacking. Just because the director says its political commentary doesn't make it so. The palette of the film was tedious monochrome. I'll give it points for the soundtrack at least.

Are neonazis the new SJWs? It's easy to see why they were slaughtered 70 years ago. The combination of smugness and incredibly low intelligence and incessant shilling/lying

you really need to get better at hiding yourself, shlomo

no wonder it's so easy to expel you lot from our nations

But is it actually good and not something only Christians can appreciate?

It's a legitimately awful movie. Terrible writing and directing. Torture porn.

>I get my opinions from South Park

I got my opinions from watching the heap of garbage. It's awful. Zero appeal except apparently for religious loons with their infamously low IQs. It makes sense that alt right mouth breathers would shill for it obsessively.

...

you just can't make that shit it up

Have you even read any of his reviews? Jonathan Rosenbaum is one of the few American critics who actually has the cinematic knowledge to back up what he says about films.

>no Snyder films
what a pleb

Different time, made by Cecil B. DeMille, and about (((their))) hero Moses.

Tbf it is pretty fucking gorey to the point that it becomes redundant. I don't really remember much about it other than that.

...

Why are Christians so mad at jews for killing Christ?
Without the resurrection Jesus would've been just a dude in sandals walking around with 12 followers.

we are mad at jews for like 10000 other reasons. Christ is just a symbol

They're mad because they know their religion is a sequel/reboot

ITT

I'm not mad at jews. We Christians just have to get better at nepotism.

Why are Jews so mad at Christians for no reason?

I am, sorry

They stole their franchise

Christianity is like LoK to Judaism's TLA.

>scene in language with no translation.

Medieval antisemitism

The scene where Judas starts hallucinating and ultimately killing himself after betraying Jesus gave me nightmares as a kid.

In recent years I can appreciate the film because it shows us what the crucifixion would have been like. It's different when you see it graphically and realistically in a movie than when you read about it. "He was tortured and then crucified" doesn't have to the same punch to it as seeing it happen on the screen.

That movie was done by an atheist communist with culturally subversive motives

>Medieval

Talmudic teachings of kike supremacism and gentiles being human livestock, as well as epidemic neurological disorders due to inbreeding.

the most poorly guarded secret on earth is that (organized) jews are actually satan worshippers

its one of those things you know, but dont talk about, because its too weird to be true

and being weird is the worst possible thing

Because Christians remember all the bad things Jews have done.

Same reason muslims are mad at people for drawing Muhammad. It's heresy. In Judaism, proclaiming to be the Messiah (like Jesus did) is also heresy.

The main criticism of Passion was that it was gorefest, although people who voice that opinion don't mind it anywhere else

this desu

Like what?
For what?

>Like what?
like communism

Wait we're not speaking from a theological perspective? That was what was implied when the person said "we."

>a theological perspective
and by this you mean only a perspective of religion? if not what theological perspective?

It was ok. Nothing new

>and by this you mean only a perspective of religion?
Mhm.

The Coens said they didn't have any particular theme or subtext in mind when they made the movie. I don't think there's as much to it as you're saying.

It is still a very, very good film, though.

jews

This is a Christian board sir. Please leave

christians give a shit about jewish religion. christians were jewish cult so theoritically chrisians are an upgrade and there shouldnt be any clashes but in practice when christianity was spread accross europe it evolved to the point it stopped being ,lets say, interchangable and some conflicts arose. Right now 99% of beef come from history

>Mel Gibson makes movie with realistic violence and gore
>MUH TORTURE PORN
>Tarantula makes movie with retarded violence and gore for the sake of it
>HAHA A TRUE GENIUS

And this isn't just about Passion. Some retards said the same thing about Hacksaw.
