boiling meat is easy and we're lazy

B-but i do have a slow cooker?

wtf is that

What's not to get?

the point of owning one, or why people hype them up on the internet on almost the same level as people hype up their car or self-built pc's

>B-but i do have a slow cooker?
Hello American friend. Do you use yours to braise meet or stews?

After a long workday many people just want to go home and eat their dinner. It's really that simple.

people hype up slow cookers online?
they're just a common kitchen appliance here, like coffee makers and toaster ovens.

>the point of owning one,
To slowly heat things you would normally simmer or braise and not have a gas flame going.

> or why people hype them up on the internet on almost the same level as people hype up their car or self-built pc's
I have never seen this. Do you frequent forums populated by middle aged N.American soccer mom's?

Because poor people have to work two to three jobs and throwing a few chicken breasts in with a can of cream of chicken soup and making rice when you get home after working for 12 hours is easy as fuck.

I wanted to look up myself the deal about slowcookers before making a thread and I would find blogs of people talking about all the models and what you should look out for to find the perfect slowcooker for you, and recipe websites dedicates solely to things to make in the slowcooker. You don't find that when you google microwaves

No one hypes them up though? They're just a common appliance you'll find in working-class households. You can do lots of interesting shit with them if you're poor and don't have access to a full kitchen, but otherwise they're nothing special.

but even housewives who have no job and their husbands money will use slow cookers too.

>boiling
No

You realize that slow cookers have been around for 50+ years Even though it's seen a recent resurgence, people have still used them before now.

Yeah, cause women are lazy as fuck.

>You don't find that when you google microwaves
That's because only a maniac would use a microwave to do actual cooking. People will slow cook chilly or braise a tough cut a meat. No one is cooking a brisket in a microwave.

>Yeah, cause women are lazy as fuck.
This. I remember reading years ago more men in Britain cook than women and my instinct is it's not different in N.America

I'm okay with this. Cooking well requires creativity and technical skill, and is therefore not suited to women.

thought about getting one, too,

they are totally uncommon in Germany

it looks like something a german could enjoy

what can you do with a slow cooker

why not, the dishes are more flavourful and the meat is more tender, as far as I know

cook things slowly

They're great.

Cook food slowly. I like to make chili and stews in mine.

This thread is the first time I heard of them desu.

why dont u just put your flame lower?

Is this the same thing as sous vide?

slow cooker cook sloooooooooow, you can leave the house and go to work and let the cooker do the job. no danger included

>if you're poor and don't have access to a full kitchen
So, homeless people?

Or college students or NEETs. Hell, I lived in a house that was under renovation where I didn't have a stove for like six months. I cooked a lot in the slow cooker then.

First time I saw those. I actually thought the thread was about "multicookers" until I googled and found out "slow cooker" is actually a different thing.

How are this mememachines treated in your country though?
My mom got one couple years ago and now cooks exclusively in it. Tastes noticeably worse that her cooking with conventional kitchen appliances, but I can see the appeal for her since she doesn't need to feed me and has some gastric problems with implications on diet.

I've never seen that appliance either, airfryers are becoming more popular here though

tbf they are quite old fashioned mate. I would say most people here have one but don't use it much and even then just use it for soups and stews.

Doing chilli in one is a great idea I've never thought of that. When I make it I normally leave it to stand for 30 mins after to soak in the flavour but doing it all night would do a better job.

Out of interest do yanks but cumin in their chilli? The recipe I always use does and it's bloody tasty. Cumin and majoram, scotch bonnets, salt pepper and sugar.

My mom does, but I don't see a lot of recipes here that call for it. Since I'm a poorfag pseudo-vagrant who can't afford spices, I usually just up the chili powder and call it a day.

Everyone puts cumin in chili. If you're using the mixed chili powder there is already cumin in it.

I stopped using chilli powder years ago as you get a harsh flavourless spiciness rather than the buzz and flavour from an actual chilli. Also chilli powder here doesn't have cumin in why would it.

>why people hype them up
This has never happened

Stop reading into them saying that put a roast on in their crock pot

they are for wives that don't give a fuck

I once had food from one like that. First I ever saw.
Tasted like shit.

Nothing wrong with your wife making food in slowcookers

this.

My mum has one, she likes it because she can turn it on in the morning and the food is done when she comes home from work.

Is she a good mum?

Americans are too stupid to use their oven.

Don't apply here. Remember the gf of one flatmate of mine (both foreign) being impressed that we had basic kitchen appliances like stove and oven. You'd be hard pressed to find an apartment without those here, in fact I've never seen such a thing in Finland.

Guess 3rd world can be harsh.

>just leave your oven on for 10 hours lol

Brainlet

It's efficient. What the fuck do you want from me?

It's ideal for your typical wage slave, you throw in stock water, offal and turnips in the morning and when you get home they are tender enough to stomach.

>why not

I guess it takes a shitload of energy to cook stuff for, 6-8 hours which sucks with non-murrican energy prices.

retard

You guessed wrong. They are way more energy efficient. Keep in mind that they do not heat up that much.

Still it is running fucking 8 hours at 100°C or something...

we buy them to keep them out of the hands of the terrorists

Don't they use high pressure cookers?

No one uses them here either. People buy them with a dream of having a warm, homecooked meal waiting for them when they return home from work, but get overwhelmed by the impracticalities of such a dream when they realize they have to prep the food in the morning and clean out the slowcooker after dinner. That's why every second-hand store has like 40 slow cookers.

You can suck the farts from my ass, milord.

Yes. The guy you're responding to is a moron.

I've read that meat becomes much more tender if you cook it in one of these, is that true?
I use a regular grill

>several responses from burger flags about how and why everyone uses them here
>No one uses them here either.
