Is California as nice as I imagine it to be? I really wanna live there someday.
Is California as nice as I imagine it to be? I really wanna live there someday
Depends where you go and you're better off visiting rather than living here unless you make atleast >$60,000
it's expensive and full of window-lickers , it's beautiful though
A lot of places are good but also a lot of places are bad. It's best to avoid the big cities like SF and LA. I've lived in Santa Barbara and it's god tier
Is the whole state expensive? I thought it was mostly just the SF area?
What are some interesting things to do and nice places to eat in San Diego? I'm going there in 10 days.
>Is California as nice as I imagine it to be?
Depends on where you go and when. Late winter and spring is nice. Summer is hot. Everything's a dried out tinderbox by autumn.
The rural coast is amazing - your photo is the Bixby Bridge on Highway 101 a bit south of Carmel. The north coasts have primeval redwood forests, the southeast has the mojave desert which is a desolately beautiful place. The sierra's are pretty incredible.
>I really wanna live there someday.
Finding affordable housing is a real bitch around here but I don't know how it stacks up with the average rent on your rainy socialist island.
You can also come to Portugal!
We have the same climate and speak a similiar language :^)
I'll even be your friend!
If you are rich, yea, if not, depends. Since I'm not rich, the only benefits so far is the weather and having to drive 3 hours to go to a california beach and 3 hours drive to go to the national parks or go snowboarding.
Generally the only places that are cheap these days are places you don't want to visit, ie. Bakersfield, Stockton.
>We have the same climate
But do you have tigers?
The entire state is pretty expensive but it's nice here desu
Don't listen to flyovers by the way
Thanks, fren! I love Portugal.
I live in LA. Santa Monica and the rich parts of the city are wonderful, and we have the best beaches and weather around.
Was there a type of area you have in mind. Generally speaking you can expect to pay around $1.5k on rent in a 1b house or $1k on a studio. Really depends on what part of Cali
Restaurant hopping is somehing I always do when I'm down there. I liked Hash House and Mucha Lucha Burrito
We might have lynxes if the little bastards haven't moved to Spain yet.
My cat once brought me a rabbit too, so we can always count on my cat.
No problem.
I'm planing a little travel.
I'm going to see old castles and fortresses and old pagan temples. You can come too. I have an old french car so we might run into trouble!!
Where do you live? Fresno?
You seem to friendly, even by our american standards.
Nope, Sacramento.
>Was there a type of area you have in mind.
My aunt married an American and they currently live in Costa Mesa. If I do eventually move there (big if), I imagine I'd probably set up base in that general area.
Everyone needs friends, I'm just trying my best.
You should take a trip here first instead of throwing yourself blindly to see how you like it, specially when you don't have a job when moving to the most expensive state in the union.
It really is nice but Sup Forums is a horrible place to ask this question. Lots of butthurt poltards hate them for political reasons.
Are you a Mexican, black, or Slav?
If I tell you, you can probably find me, so fuck you.
Good lad.
>Costa Mesa
Well if you don't mind living in the suburbs sure. Really depends on what you'd make here. Also this
So, slav then. Because it is hard to find a mexican in Sacramento.
Sure, if you make more than 500K USD a year.
>t. failed actor who lived in LA
Good call. I've only ever been to NYC. But I don't plan on moving anytime soon. Not until I have a decent amount in savings and have properly assessed the local job market.
Well he could live in South Central
He said he wants it to be nice, though.
He's gonna have to make a sacrifice. Or move to Long Beach
>failed actor who lived in LA
curious, what made you do that, you know how fucked up the business is over there and did you get culturally enriched by the mexicans there?
>even by our american standards.
dude, normal people are friendly everywhere, even if they don't like talking to strangers in the streets. imagine if this board wasn't about venomous banter. that would be awesome. this portugese user is a rare example of just how good this place could be. but that will never happen.
A-Arnold? Is that you?
Do you still speak Austrian?
The whole state is grossly expensive. Don't listen to Caliphiles like . I left nearly a decade ago, and here's the honest truth about California:
Colorado has better mountains and skiing, Florida has better beaches, the Great Northwest has better plains/flats, and California has the best deserts. That being said, you cannot find all of those things in one singular state like you can find them in California.
The food and culture is some of the best, but it's not significantly better than any other metropolitan area and it's definitely not worth the price tag.
The people, especially in SoCal, are absolute shit.
The laws are a mixed bag, but the socio-political attitudes are some of the worst in the country. Everyone has a "Fuck You, Got Mine" attitude when it comes to politics and legal issues.
In short, it's a phenomenal place to visit, but I never plan on going back to stay.
>Anyone ever has anything negative to say about CA
>N-NNO THEY'RE JUST FLYOVERS
I am not a cali fag, but you explained why CA is so great: it has all of these things in one package and the climate is hard to beat. Warm enough to swim in SoCal and no suffocating humidity like in Florida. And if you want cold you can have that too. And unique parks like Yo Semites.
> it's a phenomenal place to visit
My only experience, and I agree
if you like brown people then yeah
Good post.
California has everything. Cities, suburbs, mountains, flats, rainy north, deserts, mountains, etc... but somehow it's not so comfortable.
SoCal folk are often vain as fuck and LA is a giant disgusting suburb imo. NorCal is all business and earning money. People are all friendly but at the end of the day only look out for themselves. I'm not saying you cant make good friends (you absolutely can) but if you don't act selfishly here, you get stepped on.
Also its expensive as shit. Of course theres cheap areas too but thats because it's a poor area with crime or too far to live a convenient life. Though if you have decent career, youd probably earn more here than 99% of the world so price is a non issue.
I've been to San Francisco and Southern California. The weather is great there. It's hot and dry for most of the summer but winters are mild and rainy. There are ancient forests, mountain ranges, deserts, and hills in the countryside. San Francisco has developed some issues with homelessness but it has a lot of interesting places to visit, and there are wild parrots there. Living costs are quite high though.
What is your job field?
You could try the southeast. The weather is sort of similar to California and it's less crowded and expensive. You can enjoy the beach without having to live in a car.
Warning! Drivers in California are extremely aggressive. Drive at your own risk.
>deliberately giving someone HIV is a misdemeanour
How are any of you actually shilling for this dump?
I was just in Texas. I found Texan drivers are fucking terrible if you are a pedestrians even in a big city. California is pretty good when it comes to pedestrians other than crazy Indian drivers.
You don't have earthquakes though.
We do, so it's a better choice.
Socal is nice and has lots of good food but rent is too much
The nature is amazing down in socal but honestly living in Scottsdale is the same minus the nearby beaches and surrounding terrain
Norcal is nicer but the rent is WAY too much - I have an uncle who lives in San Jose about a mile from Apple's headquarters - his house is worth over a million, and it's a shitty ass small shack kinda like pic related. Literally the kind of house that poors in normal cities live in.
there is no justifying SF housing prices, and rent is equally as ridiculous. It is prohibitively expensive for anyone other than software engineers intending to live there
Aside from that - it's a nice place to live I suppose. Nice food, not as bikable as I would like. Sunny most of the time.
honestly I agree with what a guy up above said - California has a lot of great aspects to it, but none of the aspects are the best. Florida has better beaches, Colorado has better mountain ranges, etc.
Incredible!
