no

doubt it will be as big as even the queens visit or any way comparable to JP the II

>doubt it will be as big as even the queens visit
Might be right actually, we'll wait and see.
Be interesting to see if he goes up North, there was talk of it.

Are you... me?

>Will you be attending his visit
I don't think so. Wouldn't I have to travel to Du**** for it?

>Are you... me?
Yes.

>Wouldn't I have to travel to Du**** for it?
I don't think his schedule is decided yet. John Paul II visited a lot of different locations around the country.

>John Paul II visited a lot of different locations around the country
Isn't he only here for two days though? I would've assumed he would have much time to travel to very many places.

True but if that trip to the north doesn't pan out he'll have to go somewhere.

Would mind if the Pope admonished Ireland for voting in favour of gay """"""marriage""""" and attempting to legalize abortion

Is there a way to get away with murder?

Anyone familiar with Liam Hogan, the Limerick sjw shitehawk who promotes himself with Blindboy and the septics?

He used to operate under twitter, wikipedia and scribd as "Huxley10" with a load of poorly considered posts like this poem that openly invokes jewish blood libel. WHen this came to hs attention recently he desperately attempted to scrub out these accounts

The usual suspects are already gearing up to protest at his visit.

>Be interesting to see if he goes up North, there was talk of it.
Well it's not part of his itinerary at the moment.

>MacAleese?
No. MacAleese is a strange case. She's clearly quite religious, but is highly critical of certain aspects of the Catholic Church and its doctrine. I suppose being able to criticise the Church while holding onto your faith is admirable in a way.

> I don't think there'll be much of a protest, unless the abortion referendum fails or something.
You underestimate how much some people hate the Church. And while it's true any people have legitimate reasons to feel that way, I can guarantee you that a sizeable chunk of any anti-Pope protestors will be edgy /r/ireland types.

>You've gotten very fond of posting this lately.

>You underestimate how much some people hate the Church
While I don't believe the church is popular with many people in modern Ireland, I also don't think there are that many that would go out to protest what is only a state visit. The abortion protesters go out because they want something, I can't imagine more than a fringe minority would go out to protest the arrival of possibly the most liberal Pope in history just because.
Then again, maybe I'm an optimist.

>a sizeable chunk of any anti-Pope protestors will be edgy /r/ireland types
And how many of those are there?

What?

>I also don't think there are that many that would go out to protest what is only a state visit.
A state visit is a pretty big deal. I'd wager that for every person who goes to see the Pope, there will be somebody who goes to protest against him.

>And how many of those are there?
In Dublin, a lot.

>What?

>Mark my words, it will happen.
I can't imagine how, or where you got the idea from. The Pope's more protected than most world leaders, it's very unlikely anyone could lay a hand on him without getting subdued by a dozen Swiss guards.

I doubt he'd get farther than the crowd before getting arrested himself. On second thought, let's encourage this idea. Might get some atheists a criminal record.

As I've said before, I visit /r/ireland when there's something in the news to which I want to see the reaction from a type of person you don't find on Sup Forums; Irish lefties. Usually it just ends up being a rage porn experience though.

>I imagine it was more than just dubs at John Paul II's Phoenix Park address

>a rage porn experience
Never heard of this before, but I assume it means it makes you angry. I know the feeling, but I experience it more often with Twitter.
>Could you not just make some tea?

>Might get some atheists a criminal record
Think of all the bad press we would get for having some Irish person try and assault the Pope though.

>Dublin did nothing wrong
Apart from being a Norse base, and inviting the Normans and English over, and refusing to join the Confederacy, and giving Cromwell a safe landing that left all of his troops intact, and continuing to be the base of English power in Ireland for centuries, and building the Spire.

>Usually it just ends up being a rage porn experience
I get enough of that from just Sup Forums these days.
>I want to see the reaction from a type of person you don't find on Sup Forums; Irish lefties
Surely there's enough of that on the news and other mainstream media?
>It's important to observe how the other side of the political spectrum thinks
It doesn't sound like they're doing much of it.
>my point is that the Godless Dubs won't have far to travel to protest
Then limit the opening hours of the dole office the day he's there and they'll all be too busy to protest.

It's never too early for ice cream

While it almost seems inevitable now that the Irish flag will have to be changed upon reunification to appease the retarded loyalists, my greatest concern is that we'll pick something fucking stupid. Just look at the state of Ireland's Call and the flag of the Irish rugby team - it doesn't bode well.

Attached: 1502763582237.jpg (848x1200, 362K)

I think there's not much they could do that'd be worse than the current flag desu. Not only is it a blatant ripoff of the French revolutionary flag, but it's also meant to represent peace with the orangemen, and I think it's disgusting to have them represented on our flag at all. Just making the flag of Ireland the same as the flag of Leinster would be much better.

Attached: 1521404000632.png (709x1323, 247K)

>I think there's not much they could do that'd be worse than the current flag desu.
You underestimate the autism of modern vexillology - remember the New Zealand flag competition? And not only might some of the proposals be embarrassing, but do you really trust the Irish public not to select some retarded meme flag if it were to be decided by public vote?

>but it's also meant to represent peace with the orangemen, and I think it's disgusting to have them represented on our flag at all.
But that's exactly why I'm still annoyed that we might have to change the flag to appease the Orangemen. Our flag already represents peace between the two communities on the island. The Loyalists only oppose our current flag because of "Dem Fenians!".

>Just making the flag of Ireland the same as the flag of Leinster would be much better.
While that flag is pretty aesthetic, I imagine it would be almost equally contentious for the Loyalists. Also, I'm not a fan of flags with intricate symbols on them; that's a trait of meme countries.

Attached: 1499317006751.jpg (855x1049, 148K)

That girl looks remarkably like Makoto from Idolmaster, only flatter.

As someone with an interest in vexillology that's my concern as well. The only upside would be that Sup Forums would probably be too lazy to update the flag so at least we wouldn't have to look at it all day.

>is it a blatant ripoff of the French revolutionary flag
I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It symbolises our republican values and our historical friendship with France. It's not like we tried to hide it either by saying it was a mere coincidence, the first actual flag was made by three Frenchwomen after all.
>Just making the flag of Ireland the same as the flag of Leinster
No harp flag unless it has the winged topless woman.

>I'm not a fan of flags with intricate symbols on them

>It's never too early for ice cream
Exquisite post. Post of the week.

>image
Please tell me that isn't Shuichi...

>do you really trust the Irish public not to select some retarded meme flag
I mean I think most people would agree that Ireland's Call is a bit shit.
And isn't the flag of a nation a manifestation of the people of the nation (the people are the nation)? Thus shouldn't allowing a democratic choice in the matter be the most logical?
>Our flag already represents peace between the two communities on the island
Very much the sad part of the whole thing. It's meant to be a sign of peace but they view it as a sign of war, terrorism and "cultural supremacy", the last of which is ironic of course.
>I'm not a fan of flags with intricate symbols on them
Sentence of the week. I could've sworn either you or Prinz was a fan of symbols, but now that I think about it it may have been that Scottish guy that was here for a short period of time. I discussed flags a bit with him, Celtic Union ones mostly.

I don't think it's something most people have thought about. I didn't even realise how awful it was until /éire/ brought it up, especially that "four proud provinces of Ireland" line.
>the people are the nation
If that was the case Michael D. would be President of the Irish, not President of Ireland.
>shouldn't allowing a democratic choice in the matter be the most logical?
Not when this hypothetical vote would be called to appease the unionists who don't want anything to do with this country in the first place. Therefore the preferred outcome of whatever government calls it would be something that bends to their whims.

>Not the best quality/resolution
It was the best available.

I'd still say Provo's was worse, but that's just a town while Georgia is a state.

>I don't think it's something most people have thought about
I've heard plenty of adults complain about it, and it is regularly cited by some sports journalists as being a crock of shite. Think Joe Brolly gives out about it every year or two?
>who don't want anything to do with this country in the first place
It'll certainly be an issue, how do they have their voice heard but at the same time respect the rights of the vast majority of Irish people. Believe it is why devolution for the North for a period following reunification is quite often mooted.
I'm of the opinion that we have to try and listen to the Unionist community, no matter how difficult that may be. Of course if their answer to the question "what flag do you want" is "the union flag", then there isn't much we will ever be able to do to please them. However, I imagine on reunification a large number of unionist will be a lot more open-mined about Ireland, and hopefully see the opportunity they will have to shape the country (flag etc.).
And just to say that if 55% of people wanted the gay pride flag as our national flag in the morning there probably isn't much we could do about it. That's democracy, there is no set in stone principle (apart from the constitution which can be democratically changed) that says "the flag must be this and can never be changed" etc.

The structure of that parade does confuse me though. It seems a bit random which way they're coming and going, the fact that so many of them reach a dead then turn around seems like poor parade planning to me.
