Armenia, 70s prog is a pinnacle
trivia: 'tarkus' means 'wisdom' in eesti
other than that: even not listening to granddad music shouldn't it be emerson lake palmer? or is that some inside slang name for them?
>Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Hardly a slang, guess OP just misspelled and I'm so used to the cover that did not read the name properly hehe
Yes it appear my autocorrect borked me again
I have brought shame unto my family name
no biggie, we've all hit the post button and had regrets. carry on
question tho: did you settle on prog after listening to more harder styles of rock or just went straight up softie `? :D
garbage
My dad got me into Pink Floyd's later work (WyWh, DSotM, etc) and from there I mostly just branched out myself, and now and then Spotify suggests a new song to me that's actually really good.
My tastes now mostly revolve around Pink Floyd, Camel and Kingston Wall, but I have lots of songs from other progs bands in there too.
nice. i started digging in my dads record collection while he was already too old to really be into hard-rock and metal so he was transitioning to prog and blues and that kind of stuff. i however didn't ever get the prog thing. seemed too low-energy. who knows, when i'm 40 i might start liking it lol
Personally I find it often takes me multiple listens before I really start enjoying a prog song, especially a longer one. For instance my first 2 listens of Pink Floyd's 'Echoes' and Yes's 'Close to the Edge' I really did not enjoy it much but for both of them on the third listen something clicked and now they're both in my top 3 songs of all time
Also I'm going to take this opportunity to shill Kingston Wall, if you haven't heard them yet you're missing out. They're an absolute hidden gem, a Finnish band with excellent material that unfortunately fell apart when it's lead threw himself from a church tower. If you want to, take a listen
i was hooked on floyds echoes the moment i saw that recording of it in pompeii on vhs. atom heart mother also was an insta like too. but other than that i gotta say i took some while to krautrock which i kind of liked. i think i was mostly put off by mike oldfield and his stuff.
>Camel
respects man!
>Pink Floyd
I don't like them much but mostly because of retarded fanbase, their music is good tho
>Kingston Wall
Dunno, never paid attention to them so apathetic
Also try Comus and Soft Machine
same - my first ever album was father's Dire Straits CD. I can relate to what you say user, but prog becomes fantastic after you start to pay attention, and the next step is usually jazz - I assume you already developed a good taste so You'll get into them soon enough, I'm sure :)
oh i'm a big jazz faggot that's for sure. just don't start yapping about zappa :DDD i don't think i'll ever get why he's held in such high regard
What jazz do you listen to? I listen to a lot of Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong myself
davis is my man. duke is alright too. armstrong is a bit too oldie for me i guess. the thing about jazz is, i keep discovering it through hip-hop and nu-jazz. also i listen to a shitload of very obscure records from all over the world just shuffling through youtube. soviet/yugo jazz was based. polish especially. african sound aint too bad either
>youtube.com
my favorite yt channel. (also this guy is a personal friend from my tallinn jazz clubbing days lmao)
lel, that's not what I meant: anyway, if you're not baiting then no, I was not going to
various, mostly the more experimental one: I love John Zorn's label and japanese Three Blind Mice as well, both are legendary
KC > Yes > ELP
idk if you can tune into this or if you're even interested, but i'm currently listening to the jazz show no the local radio station. it's a weekly show featuring more modern stuff. (and it's after the world music and afro music shows so a good 5 hours of quality music with no effort)
>r2 dot err dot ee/
nope. sorry :D i wasn't baiting i just hate how everytime someone starts talking about jazz his name comes up in the conversation
>Miles Davis
>Soviet Jazz
>Funked Up East channel
Based and Superior, I like you
Dancing Mad is pretty swell OP.
>mfw I just put this on before going on Sup Forums and seeing this thread
Try some Coltrane, he's the best musician of the last century.
I would listen in but my phone is on low battery and I'm going to sleep for the night. it's been nice talking to you Eesti
right! night! :D
Never thought of himself as a jazz guitarist - Shawn Lane is a jazz guitarist
Truly a masterpiece, but Brain Salad Surgery is better and Toccata>>>any other ELP's song
ELP is based but not as based as based KC
I remember not thinking much of it at first but I ended up loving it
I'm a big prog fan. Battlefield is my favourite from Tarkus.
>not Mass
