Africa Addio (1967)

Have YOU seen the documentary that makes Louis Theroux look like the pathetic bleeding heart liberal wetbag he really is?

Have YOU seen the mindless brutal savagery of a people who wanted independence, but were too stupid to know what to do with it?

Have YOU witnessed the sheer bravery and ruthless professionalism of the handful of remaining whites in a near apocalyptic hellscape of niggerdom?

Have YOU dared expose your civilized psyche to the horror of the graphic slaughter of thousands of endangered animals? (and loads of blacks and arabs too but whatever)

If the answer to any of these is no the YOU MUST WATCH AFRICA ADDIOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:

GAZE! upon the complete devastation wrought by greedy savages upon the once pristine natural resources of the most luscious paradise on earth!

Goodbye Uncle Tom was better.

I think I might watch this. I had previously thought it was simply a disingenuous catalog of atrocities paying tribute to Africans' suffering, but if it's actually a Mondo equivalent of Empire of Dust, I'm interested.

need a hand ?

ALL THIS AND MORE! Presented for your Entertainment and Education. Africa Addio is a once in a lifetime experience. Ensured never to be forgotten by any who witness it's unforgiving spectacle!

AFRICA ADDIOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Well i think different people will interpret its message in their own way but they sure shot some of the most incredible footage of the era. well worth it just for that.

>144p

Then find a better copy but this ones free and easy for all to access

wasn't that a staged movie though?

lel

You know half of this is staged right?

This. It's one of the largest pranks in history: getting Africans to kill eachother just to film it.

Up there with the Holocaust in terms of staging to fool people.

>different people will interpret its message in their own way
Oh right, so it IS sobstory bullshit that you're trying to trick people into watching? Thanks.

The entire city of Detroit is staged too. It's all just a psyop to make us think that blacks are naturally stupid and violent. Remember THEY WUZ KANGZ

>be british
>give up on your empire because muh morals

only the scene in mondo crane was staged

>Congolese hand economy was actually a real thing
Reality is so much stranger than the most creative anarchy-balls.

There needs to be a movie about the directors

Not sobstory bullshit in the least. Most people think it racist to africans but its just candid footage

Twice in as many days I've seen this. "Wetbag." Is that a new slur? What'rer the parameters of this slur? It sounds similar to "wetback" but clearly isn't a permutation of that, conceptually.

What is it?

They staged hundreds of bodies floating down the river?
Or the mass slaughter of hippos for the local market?
The beach blanketed in corpses?
The pile of hands?
The part where they execute a rebel right before your eyes?

Yeah right bro, it was just a prank!

just a prank bro! see look at the camera!

it's a (northern?) english slur that simply means cowardly, boring, unassertive.

As much fun and about as much use as a wet bag

"Africa Addio" is a brutal, dishonest, racist film. It slanders a continent and at the same time diminishes the human spirit. And it does so to entertain us.

you should know a thing or two about special effects, this is the Sup Forums board after all

Fuck off Ebert. You're dead

>literally in the middle of the jungle in the 60's

What special effects are these by the way? Like i know the sound has been dubbed over, but what else specifically was special effects?

Then why say that people will "interpret it differently"? Does it tell the truth or does it lie? I have plenty of good movies to watch without watching half-cocked shit.

Damnit man just watch it for yourself! i can't really tell you how you'll feel about it but i can attest to its quality.

For example i see hundreds of dead Africans drifting down the river and feel nothing because its Africa so what do you expect?

A hardcore racist would feel like thats what they get for overthrowing white rule

A bleeding heart liberal would feel that white people let Africa down and tht this violence is cuased by the inequality of the global system or some shit.

Just watch it and make up your own mind

>i can't really tell you how you'll feel
>i see hundreds of dead Africans drifting down the river and feel nothing

what a stirring endorsement. So you admit that you just watch it for... what, the release of some endorphins into your bloodstream? What a startling Freudian slip.

No, I'm not interested in this, it sounds like the usual Italian exploitation faux-piety satirized in Cannibal Holocaust. A fully racist film would amuse me, a "boo hoo, how sad :~(" film would not.

1. "feel nothing" ain't an endorphin release.

2. It's not a Freudian slip, we're two racists having a frank talk about how much racism makes a film worth watching, butt out if it triggers you.

>Africa Addio
Nope, they confirmed nothing is staged.
Just pure raw African savagery.

> what a stirring endorsement. So you admit that you just watch it for... what, the release of some endorphins into your bloodstream? What a startling Freudian slip.

Fella i'm just trying to recommend a Stirling documentary to you. I can't give you the fucking philosohical and theological reason why you should watch it . I thought it was good. I feel very little about African atrocities 50 years ago. If you are a racist then yes of course you will like this docu cos it is unavoidably "racist" whenever you see the contrast between the blacks and whites.

Oh right, so it is racist. Why were you pussyfooting around the fact? The whole point of your recommending it in the first place is that we'd want that.

There is no moping over the condition of the Africans. It just shows you what happened. Its absolutely non boo-boo and not entirely a racists shitshow either. Very grey, very candid, and very very good

> Oh right, so it is racist

What is ambiguous? what is morally grey? stop being so absolutist about it and you will come to your own conclusions.

>so it is racist.
Well, I suppose, blacks are racist. So the movie may be racist too.

You get to see an african used as a hare, for fox hunting.
Africans chopping of the hind legs of horses and cattle, because they are the mark of the white man.
Africans killing a hippo in a brutal way.
The trials of Africans that have murdered farmers.
The new African bourgeoise that lived for a short while, after taking over the fortunes of some.

There is no boo hoo about it. It is a reason it is considered racist propaganda.

Christ you're stupid.

>shitshow

Why don't you come back when you can fucking think? You're recommending the film to us who think that the "racist" view is the truth, then you say "it's not really racist, it just tells the truth". So do "racists". When you work out whether you're going to recognise that or not, tell us whether you liked the movie or not.

>If you are a racist then yes of course you will like this docu cos it is unavoidably "racist" whenever you see the contrast between the blacks and whites.
I think there's some irony in this, given the preconceptions of this statement when juxtaposed with a post pointing out by picture one of the colonial rulers who was just as savage as the savages he ruled. To men, animals, and the environment.

It's like y'all niggas never read Heart of Darkness.

I'm not interested in ambiguity from Mr. Mondo, there are masterpieces I've never seen. Jacopetti pretending butter wouldn't melt in his mouth when his stock-in-trade is grue for dogfuckers to masturbate to isn't of interest to me. Jacopetti enjoying a nasty laugh at blacks' inability to do anything but destroy IS of interest to me.

>Africans chopping of the hind legs of horses and cattle, because they are the mark of the white man.

This sounds hilarious, I'm definitely watching it. Thanks for the *useful* post.

No, I just... see this .

>this early in the morning and this man is already obsessed with the black man, and thinking about him incessantly and craves media that sates his lust for watching blacks

Almost sad, lol. You can brush it off with a laugh but I don't go through my life obsessing about blacks, their incompetence, or their penises.

You've spent many posts defending the idea that the hilarious racist movie promised in is "ambiguous", while the people you're trying to recommend it to are only interested in pure racist entertainment, so I think you're confused. I'm not one of those BLACKED idiots.

Lucky you. Some of us live near blacks. So their eternal incompetence and vicious nature is of interest to us.

Not him but BECAUSE I live near them, the last thing I want to do is watch them on the screen. I literally will stop watching something if there a prominent black character in it.

I already have! i fucking loved this film! jesus you are a weird one. it is possible to enjoy this film on a non political level. I managed to watch it without feeling as though it confirmed every racist viewpoint held ever and also did not confirm every non racist viewpoint ever too. what is wrong with you user? its like you want me to come out and shout from the rooftops about my racist conversion by this film even though it isn't true.

If you can't recognize my original posts style as that of a classic film advertisement with some heavy chan cultural dialect thrown in. then you are a fucking retard and i don't care if you watch this film or not, becuase i don't want to talk to your spaztard ass about it.

>just as savage as the savages he ruled

Incorrect, the man in that picture is white.

GREAT movie, Italian mondo movies were the absolute best, love them.

But it's not a classic film, it's a Jacopetti. No, it's not possible to enjoy it on a non-political level unless you're a total dunce who just likes to see the colours and shapes moving.

This

"A notorious playboy in his early years, the Italian journalist also maintained a lurid past. He once seduced an under aged gypsy girl despite the armed resistance of her gypsy tribe. He was also once sentenced to three months in a Hong Kong jail for for the abduction of two under aged Chinese girls."

Oh if they said so it must certainly be true then.
It's not like they staged stuff in other movies or anything right

I'm with you on this. I never understood Ebert's criticism. I don't feel that the africans are portrayed worse - its just perhaps their actions comes off as worse to us, and maybe that itself says something interesting.

Poaching is juxtaposed against africans hunting with spears.
The white bourgeoise is juxtaposed against the black bourgeoise, and both come off as equally ugly and stupid.

All in all, I don't think the director set out to ridicule blacks - but its documentation from an era that we have forgotten.

Especially considering the blind eye the west has given South-Africa after.

I've watched and the movie is not even racist, its point was that the Brits left too soon and most of all they didn't give uneducated people the tools to create a democratic country. Jacopetti criticised the brits almost as much as the blacks

Thanks for "helping" that user by confirming that he's just baiting us to watch an anti-racist film, shithead!

Ebert was writing about an edited version.

I'd be interested in seeing the edited version, I'm not interested in seeing Jacopetti play the innocent.

I think the point you should take away from this is that you can't educate a monkey enough to be able to run civilization.

Why would they need to stage anything? It's black "people" lol, that's their normal behavior without white people to keep them in line. Look at black cities in America, lol.

I love Japocetti and Prosperi. They get such a bad rep, compared to the other Italian masters of the era. They trigger libcucks so hard but are deeply misunderstood. One only needs to see Mondo Cane, which mixes absurd footage from every continent/race/civilization, to see there is no racism, they just see the entire world as retarded and fascinating, everyone gets BTFO equally, with absolute cruelty and wit. That's a quality I adore about sixties Italian cinema in general, this complete lack of political correctness bullshit, the Italian comedies for example would depict the bourgeois and the proletariat as equally despicable human beings. Risi called people 'monsters'. Jacopetti called it a 'world of dogs'. That's the meaning of the Mondo term, they're anthropological, candid studies. I never understood why they are perceived as exploitation films or called shockumentaries. They have the same intent as stuff like Samsara or Qatsi, but with a lot more personality and innocent cynicism. There's a sense of wonder and curiosity and beauty even in their most disturbing images, and their absurd use of Riz Ortolani's music always adds another layer of artistic beauty.

Another user ITT used the term candid to describe their footage. They even directed an adaptation of Voltaire's Candid, which is quite unique. They're fascinating, because they never shove in a moral message, you are free to interpret the footage any way you want. And it's footage no one could replicate today, the complete freedom they had. There's so much self-imposed moral restrictions and PC bullshit. Even an indie filmmaker wouldn't dare to be as free as them, AND they worked with immense budgets and INCREDIBLE creative freedom. That's the other thing about them that people seem to ignore for some weird reason. But even without taking into account the meaning and interpretation of the controversial footage, they were absolute visual masters. On the level of Fellini, Leone, Argento, etc. Pure kino.

ebin,

see
>It's like y'all niggas never read Heart of Darkness.

so do I, but I am not constantly badgered by the specter of the Eternal Black Penis coming to cosmically rape me and my white women. Why are racists so obsessed with cock? Aren't there better things to think about? Like tits? or Ass?

Its not anti-racist but its neither racist.
There are no upstanding blacks in the movie, ruining wares for hundreds of thousands worth when they gained their independence sets the tone.

Clearly the movie is right, the blacks are like children that should be governed.

Are you also not able to point towards parts of white culture you could be without.
The movie points out how Africa is a clusterfuck. Why on earth did whites think they were safe living among violent blacks, and continue living among them after the were given independence?

>Why on earth did whites think they were safe living among violent blacks, and continue living among them after the were given independence?

It really is bizarre. I totally can't understand it and neither can Asians.

>so do I, but I am not constantly badgered by the specter of the Eternal Black Penis coming to cosmically rape me and my white women.
Are you sure? You're the one who keeps bring up black penises.
Also, that's not a problem for people that live near black people. The women that want black guys are the ones that have no access to them but grew up on positive media portrayals of blacks. So when she gets to college, and meets the 99% percentile black guy who has 110 IQ she thinks they are really just like the ones in the movies.

Poor women that live near blacks know exactly what the average black man is like.

>Its not anti-racist but its neither racist.
>Clearly the movie is right, the blacks are like children that should be governed.

Again, when you decide how you actually think, come back to us. You don't need this "not racist but" bullshit here, we know that reality has a racist bias.

Why are you telling me to "see" the post I replied to? I repeat, whites are whites, blacks are savages. There are no lies here.

...

>The women that want black guys
Ha ha, proving my point. That great spectral Rape That Must Always Rape. The BLACKED that Always Was.

Like I said. My brain spends its time thinking about women. This has left me a happier person, trust me.

...

ebin,

see
>>It's like y'all niggas never read Heart of Darkness.

so who else has actually watched it?

what's with italians and underaged bros?

...

me on the right btw

Well, he is thinking about women. He's thinking about women who betray their race for jungle fever.

Why are you wasting your own time?

Again, you're the one who keeps bring up black guys. I think you're projecting a bit bro

What is this webm of pig-ugly Italian zoom overuse meant to convey?

There's also a really interesting scene of the aftermath of africans attacking arabs, that I don't think anyone else ever shot on film.

Basically the africans held a grudge for years and years, they passed on the grudge to their children and them to their children. And when they were finally freed, they attacked and slayed the arabs.

A fair warning to things to come for the US bros.

they're pilots whose families have all been killed. they show footage of them attack shit and mention how they get payed late, but just do it for free.

Italian zoom is the pinnacle of kino, get fucked

Also watch this one. at the 1 hour mark a witchdocter cuts open a mans head. this isn't as crazy a docu about Africa as Addio. but its good.

>He co-founded the influential liberal newsweekly Cronache (considered to be a direct predecessor to l'Espresso[4]) in 1953, only to be forced to shut down production after publishing risque photographs of actress Sophia Loren which caused the paper to be charged with manufacturing and trading pornographic material (a charge which also earned Jacopetti a year-long prison sentence).[3]
