This movie fucking blows. The novelty of watching Elle Fanning and other beautiful women in Refn's "beautifully shot" flick wears off pretty quick. Am I supposed to care or feel sympathy for these vapid anorexic bitches who care about nothing more than being recognized for their beauty? I turned that shit off about halfway through and watched Throne of Blood instead. This movie seriously turned me off to Elle Fanning and in all honesty I find her very strange looking now and not attractive at all. This flick is up there with Marie Antoinette as one of the worst I've ever seen. The only good thing I can say about this schlockfest is that I had the best orgasm of my life while fucking my thick Latina gf because of how much more the movie made me appreciate her beautiful curvy body and be absolutely revolted by the stick women in that shitty pretentious shitstorm of an art festival L.A hack film.

Beauty isn't everything OP, it's the only thing.
I watched Refn's filmography from beginning to end. He started out great with the Pusher trilogy and even Bleeder was good. Then he started to develop a unique sense of style which I didn't mind and I unironically think Drive is his best movie but I was dreading The Neon Demon because I saw the trajectory of his career.
He was going overboard on style and sacrificing substance. This all happened after Jodorowsky started sucking on his dick so now he thinks he's some genius, I'm sure.
Neon Nightmare isn't technically a genre but there's a lot of movies that fit into it, and this is among the best of them.
I think its best when you think it as modern fairytale -type of movie

That's simply not true. The movie has a beginning, middle, and end. Three act structure: Naive girl comes to LA, naive girl becomes fashion icon, naive girl gets killed.
You can call it a shitty plot if you prefer but to call it plotless just shows how much of a simplistic idiot you are.

I agree but my question is when it becomes gratuitous. I appreciated that over the course of his career it was obvious that he was developing in a way that gave his movies a unique identity through techniques he was using. I liked Fear X. I liked Bronson. I liked Valhalla Rising. Like I said, Drive is one of my favorite movies. But I think he's gotten to a point where he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing. OGF and TND are just a porngraphic reflection of his use of violence, color, light, cinematography of his past stuff.
He didn't know what the fuck he was doing while making that movie. Just watch the documentary that was filmed over the course of the movies production. He was fucking confused because it was pointless.
