What's the problem with this show? I caught one of the episodes called Restaraunt Wars and it seemed good enough, certainly not something to warrant the hate I see it get here. The human characters seemed interesting enough and the short time the gems appeared was fun. What's the deal?

Lorefags throw tantrums every time a cartoon that's mostly slice of life with an overarching plot does a slice of life episode. Waifufags throw tantrums every time their waifu isn't the episode centerpiece.

This does not sound like the post of a man who has only seen one random episode of Steven Universe.

There is some validity when it comes to the complaints on how SU handles its lore. There's a lot of build up with very little payoff.

>There's a lot of build up with very little payoff.
The only reason that would annoy someone who watches the show regularly is if they started with The Return/Jailbreak rather than following the show to that point, and are waiting for those kinds of finales through normal episodes that are honestly very similar to episodes early in the series.

My problem with Steven Universe is that after every seriously heavy exposition episode, we never get any sort of dialogue or interaction between the main characters about the aftermath and what they're planning to do, it either shifts to a filler episode or a townie episode.

Now, the Townies are nice and their episodes are enjoyable as Slice of Life segments after lore episodes, but they've come as a huge chunk of filler as of late, and only one of them was decent as compared to the other dozen of horrible ones.

I actually like this show, but I don't like where it's headed now, it would be nice if they got a hang of what they're supposed to do instead of what we had just now.

I like the show but you can't judge something based on one episode

The problem is that it's very easy to bait people into never-ending arguments on Sup Forums.

It's an okay show, but notoriously difficult to discuss with other anons.

>What's the problem with this show?

The hiatuses. That's the fucking problem.

Everything else is whining by little faggots who don't get beaten often enough.

I liked the sci-fi thing but of course it backed off on that after the first season finale and I couldn't get through the succession of shitty episodes until it got back to sci-fi.

This. Too many faggot nu-fans started with Jailbreak and pretend they were fans from the beginning, and then complain when the show does what it's always done, not realizing the epic season 1 finale was the exception, not the norm.

Exept that even in the early townie episodes ther always were some small things hinting for epic lore stuff.
It just mostly never came then

>certainly not something to warrant the hate
literally just ripped from an anime
the problem is that it's unoriginal and indicative of how much effort they're willing to put into something
it was a boring dumb episode if you're into cooking anime, not just shokugeki no soma

The episode wasn't about cooking retard.

>What's the problem with this show?
Bad character design
Bad worldbuilding
Bad storyboarding
Bad voice acting
Bad music
Bad pacing
Bad jokes
Bad morals
Bad fanbase

Its pretty much just five people in a voice acting booth reading from a script nonchalantly while soft background music plays and nothing at all happens for 99% of the episode. Basically just a soap opera or romantic "comedy" in animated form, no wonder the majority of its supporters online are hambeasts.

I enjoy it, but writing-wise there's not a lot of cleverness (which admittedly afflicts a lot of cartoons these days.) There's very little foreshadowing outside the major arc, no dramatic irony, no wit to the resolutions in each episode. Instead it relies on deus ex machina, random power ups, and blind faith, which all add up to very linear plot progression.

That doesn't take away from what the show does do right, good characters with a lot of warmth, and a richly realized world with complexity underneath. But I think the more hardcore fans are much too willing to overlook or disavow its shortcomings while proselytizing. They take the show's motto "believe in Steven" to heart. So it's not surprising that many people's reaction to it is to shut the door on them.

Some episodes are great , the other 70% ones are propaganda garbage.

We will have to disagree on that, kind sir
>Bad fanbase
True, true.

The writing.

I don't mind that the first season or two had townie episodes or slice of life, hell some were good. Now we're fast approaching the part where the plot is literally ready to be launched into space and we're gonna go on some cosmic journey to Homeworld or the next Big Bad is gonna come from Homeworld. The problem is the buildup to this has to be interrupted by some filler episode that brings the whole plot to a screeching halt and we spend an episode or two doing nothing while also being bad. This problem of literally nothing is made even worse by the fucking hiatuses that seems to happen every other month.

>Bad music

Literally the best cartoon soundtrack of all time. Even the worst BGM shits on any other.

The real question to be asked is why are there so many "I don't get the hate" threads.

Who cares if people don't like the show you like. You know you are not going to change anyone's minds

Fuck off someone please delete these threads, they're so shitty

I just want to know what the main problems are. I have no idea what the show is about other than the gems, steven is half gem, and he protects beach city.

It's not the show, its the fans.
Source: am a fan.

No, you're definitely baiting.

pls delete this

Basically yeah

>What's the problem with this show?
Majority of people won't give it a chance because of what they've heard and flat out lies.
Also, the fanbase.

>"HURR DURR TUMBLR!"
Is pretty much the only reason.
at it's worst the show's okay.

really the most disappointing thing is that there's less one off corrupted gems to encounter, those missions were fun

Watching one episode is a very poor indicator of its quality due to how severely inconsistent it is. It's a show that has no clue what it wants to be. It wants to be as SoL, bit it also wants to be an action show, a soap opera, a comedy, etc, but it doesn't do anything particularly well. It's anything jack of all trades, master at none.

Do you enjoy the thought of total strangers wishing you a protracted, painful death?

nice bait m8

nice bait user

I think it handles foreshadowing alright.
Garnet being a fusion was hinted at all over the place before the reveal.
And we all knew about the Diamonds before they where reveald.

Stop making these threads.

You can find /sug/ in /trash/.

>before they where reveald

*before they were revealed

I consider that part of the major story arc, which is fine. Where it's lacking is the story progression within individual episodes.

I suppose the 11 minute format is a constraint, but even shows like Clarence or We Bare Bears use their time more wisely.

You can't really fault them though, having a giant space empire that wants the earth and everyone on it to die isn't exactly something people want to ignore.

Its a good show, the episode you caught was filler. Many filler eps are still entertaining, but the episodes that relate to the overarching plot are usually the kickers, and will best give you an idea of what the show is actually about.

We didn't even know that other gems existed at the start of season one.

The show revealed more and more gems in history and present and the scope got larger.

When suddenly the show starts talking about potential war and the earth blowing up, focusing an episode on why Lars is an asshole is small potatoes in the scope of the show.

something something tumblr something something SJWs

>Eh, some are pretty shit (Looking at you Lars)
Really? I always thought Lars is a pretty good caricature of a lot of alt (or wannabe alt) kids, visually and writing-wise.

sounds like your parents failed as well

Nigga's got a box for a head

You have been making these threads since the summer

FUCK OFF ALREADY

Definitely true for the Cluster/Malachite arcs. Resolved super-quick and with little consequence, sacrifice or character growth. I imagine they will revisit the Cluster at some point, though.

My hope with all the attention they've given townies is to make us know them and thus care about them when the Earth is legitimately threatened and we literally see them put in harm's way and suffer from Homeworld's plans, if shit starts to get heavier. The main problem is very little crossover between townies and gems, but there might be a method to this.

That's how cartoons work, user. He's not supposed to be pretty.

Restaurant Wars is my favourite anime

Tbh this show can do whatever it wants as long as it keeps the thicc waifus coming

Really all that needs to be said.

Everything is the problem. The show is garbage and all it's fans should kill themselves.

Because it features pro-LGBT liberal morals that "LOLCUK"s don't always appreciate. That and a lot of the fandom are on the repulsively far side of SJW/tumblrisim, easily baited and will rip people's heads off over about anything.

too bad the tracks can barely be heard/end up cut short so often

peridot: the cluster is gonna kill everything ever
steven: lets be friends
cluster: yeah alright

ya see the problem with this either steven is the god of diplomacy or the show is going full cop out

The problem for me is that is didn't turn out to be what I expected when I saw the first promo images:
>A slice of life show about a slacker who hangs out with magic girls.

I thought Steven was some dude in his 20s that chilled out to the amusement of the girls, who enjoyed his company.

So the first time I heard his voice was a little off putting. Like, "Woah, woah, woah! That's a kid?!"

>So the first time I heard his voice was a little off putting. Like, "Woah, woah, woah! That's a kid?!"
Same here. I honestly thought he was a short fat college guy when I first saw that promo poster, too. His proportions have changed a LOT from then, though, since he actually looks like a kid now.

I came in at the season 1 finale and went back and watched the entire first season snd loved the show even more. I regret not watching from the begining as I didn't see that appel before Jailbreak. In the end I love the show for it being a very fun slice of life comedy with great action and comedy. I love the episodes which focus on the town and it's inhabitants. Everything about Steven Universe is great.

Would the show have been fun under that premise?

>A 20 year old college dude shacks up with threes magical girls, the Crystal Gems.
>His perspectives on life serve as a source of amusement and relief from the Gems already difficult lives.
>He woos them with his ukulele, not hitting on them, but because he likes to see them smile.
>Steven learns a little more about them with each adventure, not knowing that one of his professors has been studying Gem artifacts, and is making plans of his own...

I enjoyed Steven Universe from the first episode.

It's a stupid show but it's fun to watch. Out of all of the current shows on CN now, I think it would fit in the best with classic cartoon cartoons from the 90s, along with We Bare Bears.

>ya see the problem with this either steven is the god of diplomacy or the show is going full cop out

Considering how much genuine mindfuckery powers Rose Quarts is shown to have that may not be far off. Seriously, what the hell was RQ that Steven can make plant minions and enter dreams or posses people? Some sort of special ops secret service specialist deal?

The Show = Well made, highly recommended
The Fanbase = kek...

so it's basically the same as everything else ever, only it's popular and therefore more talked about

>show well made
a threat that was built up for an entire season so like a year steven time was talked down

fuck outta here with that noise

It doesn't have this

>bad storyboarding is subjective
Righto

My main problem with SU is the way it handles it's characters. Some (Pearl, Peridot) will get many episodes dedicated to their growth and development, while others (Amethyst, LAPIS) get thrown to the wayside. Once these characters finally get their time to develop, it's either unresolved or rushed, and other characters that have had time to grow are given unnecessary episodes that could be given to the less-developed characters. With Lapis for instance: we don't see her onscreen for well over a year outside of a dream sequence, and when she eventually returns she's given two episodes onscreen before we don't see her for another ten. Peridot, on the other hand, is a given a seven or so episode long arc and plenty more episodes afterwards to develop. Then there's the issue with how Lapis goes from despising Peridot to being her best buddy with no explanation, and how her personality switches from episode to episode... but I digress. All in all, I wish the show would be more consistent in terms of development, and not very obviously play favourites with it's characters.

>My main problem with SU is the way it handles it's characters.

*My main problem with SU is the way it handles its characters.

It's trash.

This is correct. It's a false flag.

excuuuse me

I've noticed that when there's a stretch of episodes where almost nothing is happening, it's usually around 8 episodes
>House Guest to Watermelon Steven
8 episodes
>Full Disclosure to Rising Tides/Crashing Skies (counting Say Uncle and the shorts)
8 episodes
>Steven Floats to Kiki's Pizza Delivery Service
8 episodes
>The Kindergarten Kid to Onion Gang along with the season 4 shorts
8 episodes

LESBIANS! TUMBLR! FAT!

It gets very inconsistent with quality. That's my biggest flaw

I'll take it. I barely marathon the show on repeat so I'll just go with my first impressions
>Bad character design
Agreed. The electric socket nose looks awful. Plus, the super simplistic style makes for really weird design choices like someone that looks like he has a hotdog for a head (Greg)
>Bad worldbuilding
They have a very good backdrop but the problem with it is that the characters don't feel like they're from the same show. I have to agree with your comment that it's like there's only 5 people in the recording booth.
>Bad storyboarding
Three words: Steven's facial tumor.
>Bad voice acting
This is kinda eh. The whole team does great, with the exception of Steven because his pitched-up voice gets increasingly grating the more you listen to it.
>Bad music
Music is pretty good for a show with an 11-minute format. OTGW beats them in the best music department, though.
>Bad pacing
I wonder if it's CN's fault or Rebecca's fault for letting this happen
>Bad jokes
From what I've seen, all the jokes are either subtle gay jokes or just really offbeat humor. Kind of hit-and-miss if you're not their target audience
>Bad morals
>Bad fanbase
Humanity is awful as a whole. Why blame one show?

Tumbler convinced themselves it was pandering to them so a lot of people think it really is pandering.
Then they went and made beach city drift and that auctualy was tumblr pandering.

The kiddies are all convinced that it's cool to hate things just because they've seen a correlation between progressiveness and that special annoyingly preachy brand of neo-liberalism called SJWs, and also trolls think it's an easy way to get people riled up. I'm probably posting in a troll thread right now.

The problem is with the fans and the way the writers pander to them. You can see ITT and in every other Steven Universe thread how there are always those stubborn contrarians from tumblr who slap their hands on their ears and yell "No no no it's a good show and there's nothing wrong with it, I'm not listening" because they're genuinely too fucking retarded to acknowledge that liking something doesn't make it perfect or even close to perfect.

>"Bad pacing/casting/writing/animators who draw totally off-model? Nah, it's just something wrong with you."

This is why everyone fucks with you /sug/.

You caught an episode that focused on the human towns people. Those episodes are actually pretty interesting and would be considered good.

Its mainly the fans that are the problem.

The show is good enough. It just caters to topics that only matter to mentally ill people, so the fandom is total shit.

Most of Sup Forums seems to judge it based on the fanbase....

Ellipses are three dots.

okay..

/sug/ is better then most of the fanbase about admiting an episode is bad but dam they will refuse to admit an episode was bad if it has a nice song.

We saw that with mr greg and we saw it to an even greater extent with that piece of trash mindful education.

Also holy shit they are bitchy about spoilers if you dont want to be spoilt on something dont go to its fucking general

>/sug/ is better then most

*/sug/ is better than most

It had no L O R E

Sad thing is, in your masive shitpost, there are some valid criticism points.
SU is by no means the perfect show its fake SJW fanbase that never watch or care for it parrot.
Its actual fanbase normaly points out the pacing of the story in the scale of the seasons.

i was so disappointed in how thy resolved that, especially since malachite was a pretty cool way to end the Homeworld arc. Fuck, i just wish they would let their characters think, ya know.

Fuck off filthy tumblrite
Hope you get deported

Awesome projecting here.
