Vedderchecked those satanic trips

I think Lynch's best are the Alphabet or The Grandmother. I hope he uses some of his cash to film bits. It's too bad his website is non-existent now, but he was doing cool shit with it years ago

lol more like david lunch

I'm down for these type of threads instead of /tpg/ but people are too LYNCHED by the ending of Twin Peaks to talk about anything of substance.

Anyone know where I can download all his short films in good quality? All the torrents I've tried have questionable quality and YouTube is a joke. At least Ops link is good but most of them on YouTube look like they were off of 20th generation VHS dubs

Vedderchecked those double dubs

Haven't seen his short films, I wanna watch them another time all at once. I'll raise you my favorite Lynch scene.
youtube.com/watch?v=awVNCIjQq1A
Also satanic trips checked

OP where should I start with his work? The short films, or full length? Any recs? I'm looking and he seems to have a lot of stuff

Watch his short films, then Eraserhead, then the rest of his films/general work in order.

Am I the only one tha thinks that the "dream" part in MD happends in the seconds after Diane shoots herself as she's dying?

I keep reading about David Lynch on this board, and although I skipped Twin peaks, is he really that great of a director? I don't want to waste my time. Can anyone give me a quick rundown?

I always held that same belief. It's hard to say though. Mullholland Drive is a masterpiece

Those are triple dubs actually.

I agree. I know it's a meme film but it's my favorite Lynch and I consider it a masterpiece.

he is a genuine artist so some people will not enjoy his style

he is a master of suspense and has a great eye for
darkly comedic moments.

watch blue velvet, if you like it
then watch everything else

Watch Alphabet youtube.com/watch?v=oJ_t1eOAipo or The Grandmother, and this youtu.be/QV4iHZP0UbQ

He's a master at kino. Everything is worth your time desu, even if you don't know what it means.

Vedderchecking those dubs of knowledge

Not only that but I love his music. Check out Ghost of Love from Inland Empire youtu.be/-_ivA4Li9B0

>there are people who claim to be film buffs who think Lynch is genuinely a hack who makes random nonsensical stuff and his movies are bad.
How is such a thing possible? I've noticed that this kind of people are the ones that see film as an intellectual excersice rather than an emotional one. They tend to be the ones that watch movies just to say they understood them and not for enjoyment, so when confronted with a Lynch film they can't handle the fact that his movies are not to be deciphered and they break down because there's no way they can't understand a film, it must be that the film is purposefully bad and nonsensical.

This is true. His films make you think and modern society is afraid of thinking. A bunch of babies wanting to be spoonfed.

OP nice try but Sup Forums loves plebbit and Morty and capeshit.

Is there anywhere I can download or watch the Grandmother in good quality? Everything I could find is YouTube tier shit quality

I seriously thought Naiomi Watts was gonna play Diane in Twin Peaks

So the ending of Twin Peaks season 3 is basically the same as Donnie Darko right? The key to understanding it is to understand that movie?

youtube.com/watch?v=TGqVDQ-7u0g
Is this Lynch's music or that of Angelo Badalamenti? Various sources say it differently.

This is the best quality I've seen online. youtu.be/IYT60M3HZ0c?t=21m32s If you find a better one post it.

I have that Short Films of David Lynch on DVD and it's almost the same quality as that YouTube video. I don't think any better versions exist anymore

Criterion blu-ray Eraserhead has short films so until a 4K release that is the best quality!

The Cowboys and the Frenchman here youtu.be/IYT60M3HZ0c?t=1h7m32s has Jack Nance and Harry Dean Stanton from Twin Peaks in it. It's definitely interesting

>youtu.be/IYT60M3HZ0c?t=1h7m32s
an hour and 7 minutes in. Worth a watch for fans.

>Watch Alphabet

wtf...that was just scary. can someone please explain to me the artistic value in that? I'm not trying to troll and I could be a pleb but I just found it scary and unsettling.

The Japanese have used that as the basis for their horror films for ages now. Congrats for seeing it the first time.

That's the point.

David Lynch isn't real. He's portrayed by an actor... who also acts in "his" stuff, just to make things weirder.

ok good, yeah that was scary.

Kek. Watch The Grandmother next.

Another set of triple dubs in this thread. Vedderchecking that shit

I thought I was the only one who thought that. How the hell did he get a grant from AFI from that short??

Christ that was a bad one. Thanks for posting it though

How pleb can you be? The Alphabet is the definition of kino.

Yeah. That's why I said it was for the fans of Twin Peaks. That whole DVD has some quality kino on it though

Can anyone confirm or deny that the quality of this video is the same on the DVD I was thinking of ordering a used copy on Amazon.

It's about the same desu

Just uploaded this one youtu.be/Btf7OwGsLyQ
It's a pretty interesting short lynchnet.com/lumiere/

Anyone think there's a chance for a season 4 of Twin Peaks?

He is a very solid director, somewhat overrated on here. His style isn't for me, but I do appreciate it.

>being so much of brainlet that you can't get intellectual exercise from emotional exercise and vice versa
Never gonna make it brah

Ask your dubs that question

I'd say David Lynch is underrated here, or has been prior to the the Twin Peaks. There aren't many directors that are better than Lynch

I really like The Grandmother. Always thought it made for a great companion piece to Eraserhead. Where E-head dealt with adult fear like the fair of fatherhood, of settling down, of sex, Grandmother dealt with childhood fears like parental abuse and loneliness. The sound design is wonderful and I adore thise little animated sequences. I wish Lynch did more of those.

From lynchnet.com/lumiere/
Policemen find the body of a boy, lying dead in a field. A woman waits at home. A garden tableau of three beautiful women stir. Strange men in overalls walk through a factory as a naked women is trapped in a water tank. The police arrive at a home with news for the woman waiting earlier.

"Premonitions Following an Evil Deed" is a part of the film Lumiere and Company. For the 100 year anniversary of the Lumiere camera, forty directors made one minute film segments using an original restored Lumiere camera. The ground rules were rigidly enforced: a continuous shot to be captured in a maximum of three attempts, no artificial light sources, no synch sound, and that this shot last a maximum of 55 seconds (the length of one reel of film for the camera). Lynch's short cost around $6000 to film and involved several different location changes. He skirted the rules by using his allowed three takes to close the shutter on the camera and move to a different set, thus creating the appearance of five different locations edited together..

Post yfw the lesbian scene in MD caught you off guard

Friendly reminder David Lynch still has those panties youtu.be/ioKyxGkBRro

I dislike "stream of consciousness" lynch honestly. Eraser Head and Inland Empire are practically unwatchable and for me, contain essentially zero redeeming qualities.

Yet Blue Velvet, Mulholland Dr and A Straight Story are fantastic films. I also like the real (aka fully lynch involved TP episodes) but the garbage that surrounds them is overwhelming. Maybe one day I will finish S2 and watch S3.

Is there any other director that has had such a while variance is genre/style?

He probably has lots of panties.

Why haven't you watched season 3 of Twin Peaks?

Because, if you read my post properly, you'd know I haven't finished S2.

Watch the last episode and Fire Walk With Me, then watch season 3.

Lars von Trier

He's done dramas, a musical, scifi, horror, and shit that can only be described as avant garde, but it's good. Honestly I greatly enjoy all of his films, but I don't see him discussed on Sup Forums often.

His TV show The Kingdom has drawn slight comparisons to Twin Peaks as well.

the kingdom was bizarre
really enjoyable though

man, takes me back to the good old days...

Totally agree, people misunderstand more abstract art. It's not to have a super profound meaning deep inside, it's just to make you feel a specific emotion or atmosphere. It falls into this gray area where it don't have a full plot or moral but also it's not random meaningless stuff, it all comes from an idea. Inland Empire really is just about a girl in trouble. almost everything in that film is about creating that specific feeling regardless of plot.

Also I see pretentious misused all the time. Pretension is when something claims to have a meaning when it clearly doesn't. Which is why a splatter painting isn't pretentious because it doesn't claim a specific meaning but just aims to make you feel something.

Like those double dubs that I'm Vedderchecking?

have you seen this interiew with the master
he address your point exactly at the end
youtube.com/watch?v=MIlmdLPUdpg

>Which is why a splatter painting isn't pretentious because it doesn't claim a specific meaning but just aims to make you feel something.

This is a bad blanket statement. It depends on the artists intent. There is nothing stopping someone from making stuff like that, but made purely with the intent of the artist following it up by SAYING their intent or meaning of the work has some significance just because they can see what they can get away with.

Lynchs work isn't pretentious because they are stream of consciousness works and he has always said that and has never claimed any other meaning.

Yet someone else can make a film like Eraserhead, just smattering stuff together then simply claiming a meaning or reason or interpretation behind it when none was intended.

Intent creates pretention, not content.
