Sup Sup Forums. After several years of putting it off, I finally watched all of Avatar the last airbender, and I've got to say...

Holy shit, I want more. What other series compare and have such a beautifully crafted world, lore, and characters? Is Korra any good?

Korra sucks till last season, then suddenly lesbians for no reason. Kuvira is the only good thing from Korra. Well, besides the fanart.

>Is Korra any good?
reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

no but seriously try it for yourself and decide. seasons 1 and 2 are... iffy, but I think 3 is up there with the original series. 4 people hate solely for the end

>Is Korra any good?
Hahahahah, God No.

you mean season 3. which was better than seasons 1 and 2 of atla

This is all you need to know about Korra:
youtube.com/watch?v=bmKaQqinWKY

Samurai Jack.

Other than this, I recomend yout to stick with Fulmethal Alchiemist, because it is the cretors inspiration.

Korra is fine. Its not a classic like the first series, and is definitely more flawed. But its good despite that.

Of course people here will tell you its a steaming pile of shit, but most other places seem to like it.

A lot of people on Sup Forums hate it with a passion, but mainstream opinion is that it's a good show, but one that fails to reach the same heights as Avatar

Personal experience is that your enjoyment of Korra depends upon how attached you are to your own headcanon of how things went after Avatar ended

Also Korra does not have a overarching plot like Avatar, no overall villain and goal, but instead several challenges who are more or less connected to each other

Expect a lot of villains who are well intentioned extremists

most other places seem to not like bvs and Sup Forums does and they are right on that so Sup Forums is probably right about korra

I don't know about all that....but Korra is really weak in comparison to the first series. But the animation and fight scenes are good and waifus are good if you're into that sort of thing I guess.

Like I said, Korra is fine. Not great or anything, but certainly decent, and sometimes more than that. It just seems disappointing compared to the first show.

Its like comparing Godfather 3 to the first tow movies: the third movie is okay, but comparing to the first two makes it look like shit.

>But the animation and fight scenes are good
What's the point if the story and the characters suck? Sure it looks nice but it's so shallow.

>post yfw

I mean, anyone who takes that video series seriously though has to be a bit dense, it is obviously exaggerated for comedic effect

Not to mention obvious logical fallacies, for example he believes it to be unreasonable for the Avatar world to reach the technological level at the time because horse drawn carriage was the main transportation source in Avatar, yet Avatar introduced tanks, trucks, zeppelins and major forms of industrialisation, to reach the technological level of Korra's time they merely had to make such technology more universal and introduce electricity. Something which happened in real life, and quicker than the 70 years between Aang and Korra's time, in the real world the leap would be the equivalent of going from pre civil war US to 1920

Sup Forums also has a sizable Steven Universe fandom so one can reasonably deduce that there are quite a few retards here though

I like the story and characters though

Korra is probably one of the few series I have seen, Avatar excluded of course, where the villains aren't all evil just for the sake of evil.

Also I like Korra and Tenzin and other characters. I mostly just agree that there were several unecessary characters added such as Kai in book 3, and Bolin is a mediocre comedic relief character who didn't really get a purpose until he mastered lava bending and found a way to separate himself from his earlier role in the plot by joining Kuvira's team.

Something that really struck a chord with me was the asiatic artstyle, world, and music. How bending is used for everything from public transit to the mail system .I never thought I would be so interested in Chinese culture, and that has me worried for watching Korra. I know it takes place several years after TLAB, and is supposed to be about the roaring 20s-30s, which seems to me like it would kill the world the show set up.

...

>Is Korra any good

No.

Consider that Chinese culture didn't stop as it entered the 20th century, it's a what if scenario where the industrial revolution happens in a world where East Asian culture dominates

>Is Korra any good?
I jej'd

>still no OST release
youtube.com/watch?v=GUkG5x1MRtc

>"Woah. That's a lot of fire, isn't it?"
There's just something about that line and the way it's delivered that just sends shivers down my back.

Also the soundtrack is perhaps the one thing that is better in Korra

youtube.com/watch?v=yjM6M9JKt7k

You have to remember though that Avatar takes place in world filled with air/fire/water/earth benders and so just like in worlds with magic technological advancement will be slower than in our world since there's less incentive for innovation.

>best song in Korra
>for the worst scene in Korra

You would think they would have invented actual guns though.

That's crazy logic though, in fact in a world where people can create energy by themselves would be a momentous industrial boost, the presence of magic does not hold back technology anywhere but nonsense land

I was gonna suggest they perhaps don't have guns because the world has no sulfur, but then I remember they did have fireworks, so there's really no logical explanation except for the fact that Nickelodeon wouldn't allow a kids show with guns

It's not crazy though. There isn't much incentive to find better medicine when you have water bender healers around.

Sure, but medicine is just one technological step, not to mention only 1/4 of the world has access to waterbenders, if even that considering most people are not benders

You also have all the people that benefit from cars, bending isn't going to get me to work faster, bending isn't going to bring more food to my table, and bending isn't going to make me anymore wealthy

You're presuming because some individuals can make their own fire the rest of the world will sit in darkness

I'm not saying there will be no advancement, I'm saying it will be slower.

And I was giving only one example out of many you can find. In the Earth Kingdom they're using earth benders to move trains around.

Also their world in the first series isn't exactly the same as in ours during the 19th century. Sure they have steamships, tanks and zeppelins but not much else.

>watching E;R

Oh look the one fsggot worse than boco. So i guess korra is good after all

Keep in mind, its supposed to be Asian style world in the 19th century.

No, it's not. Bryke specifically said that it was inspired by a combination of 20's New York and early 20th century Hong Kong, during its rapid industrialization period.

I have the first season's art book.

Above post said
>Also their world in the first series isn't exactly the same as in ours during the 19th century.

The first series, as in The Last Airbender, correct?

We're talking about the technology leap.

I'd say the first series is mid-to-late 18th century, though it's hard to find an exact figure considering their people have magical powers that render certain technologies redundant.

posting best villain song

This song just fucking nails that feeling of a slow, sinister threat, that aura of impending doom. Gives me chills every time.

Stop with this meme. Season 3 of Korra was still nowhere near as good as ATLA.

>watched ATLA; wants similar
Wakfu
>watched Wakfu; wants similar
ATLA

I've only watched the first season of Korra and I didn't really like. Should I watch the rest or will it be a waste of time?

I thought the second season was even worse.
The third season was better than the first two, but still not ATLA level.
The fourth season was also pretty bad.

So nah, it's not worth it.

It is because ATLA wasn't that good to begin with.

Not saying it's bad, but ATLA isn't some 10/10 masterpiece.

>ATLA isn't some 10/10 masterpiece.

I never claimed that it was. It's certainly better than Korra though.

It's better than Korra, but it's not thaaat much better.

There were plenty of mediocre episodes in Avatar. To think that the worst of ATLA is better than all of LoK is a meme itself.

>To think that the worst of ATLA is better than all of LoK is a meme itself.
But as a whole, ATLA is vastly superior to LOK
Like, you can take specific episodes and plotlines and compare them, but overall LOK doesn't compare to ATLA
Season 1 of ATLA, which is the least good season is still better than Season 3 of LOK which is it's best

>Season 1 of ATLA, which is the least good season is still better than Season 3 of LOK which is it's best
I don't hold Season 1 of ATLA in high esteem, so we'll have to agree to disagree.

why are you attacking the darkness user?

>To think that the worst of ATLA is better than all of LoK is a meme itself.

I never claimed this either, but I have to agree with that on the whole, ATLA s1 is better than LoK s3. Namely because I actually give a shit about the characters.

yea korra is good only some idiots on Sup Forums hate it

Wakfu and no korra is shit
... Season 1 and 3 are ok.

>what are ATLA GNs

But the problem stems from the fact that the world isn't built around this crazy magic like it was in the original series, at least not until we got to the metal bender city and that's one city out of an entire world. It's just our world that happens to have people with bending powers in it, serving to make benders seem unnecessary which serves to make the antagontic forces completely unreasonable. I mean yeah, there's the triads I guess, but that's not an issue with bending, that's an issue with crime.

>animation and fight scenes are good

Except they fucking aren't. Virtually every fight is "two people pussyfoot around doing nothing but punching with [element]." Instead of drawing inspiration from a variety of martial arts and fun to watch acrobatic maneuvers they draw from the shallow end of boxing and as a result shit's just really fucking boring to watch.

>Is Korra any good?
It's a pretty big disappointment that does not measure up in any way with ATLA.
Not in writing, not in characters, not in bending, not in progression, not a damn thing.
But if you want more there really is not much else, so go ahead.

>Aren't evil for the sake of evil

Except they fucking are, every time. Every single time one of the villains starts looking mildly sympathetic they immediately start beating us over the head with how reprehensible and irredeemable they are.

Azula starts off as someone who seems to be completely evil and loving it but by the end she's revealed as just sort of a pathetic human being who cracked under the pressure of her fucked up family. Meanwhile every Korra villain basically goes from 0 to Hitler in no time flat.

NO.
I WISH I HADN'T.
SAVE YOURSELF.

>pathetic human being who cracked under the pressure of her fucked up family

She was a victim you dick.

Go back to fapping to porn of her, which you somehow conveniently got every artist to confirm she was 18 in

I don't fap to her, she's my daughterfu.

>Except they fucking are, every time. Every single time one of the villains starts looking mildly sympathetic they immediately start beating us over the head with how reprehensible and irredeemable they are.

The only purely evil villain in Korra is in book 2. In book 1 they're fucked up because of their father. In book 3 they're more on the chaotic/lawful axis than the good/evil axis. In book 4 the villain is an equal and opposite reaction to the extreme ideology of the villains in book 3.

>I don't hold Season 1 of ATLA in high esteem, so we'll have to agree to disagree.
Don't be a fucking pussy and provide reasons why you don't like it that much.

TLOK is so bad that even if ATLA was a 4/10 show, Korra would be -2/10. There's a huge difference in quality between these two shows..
