I hated it.

Why

Didn't this come out like 5 years ago? I can't remember ever hearing a single thing about it after watching the first trailer.

It was reddit

LITERALLY ok lad

It embodies all the worst qualities of "fedoracore" filmmaking. It has this slick, cool style that is completely at odds with the tone of the source material or the character. It's like "Taxi Driver" directed by a Guy Ritchie knockoff. Those flashback/fantasy sequences with his ex-wife were stupid all the way through, and then the way they used them to set up his double life as a cross-dresser as some big Fight-Clubbish "mind-blowing twist" was just laughable. James McAvoy is a good actor, he did a good job in some scenes, but the director has no handle on the character or on the tone of his own movie.

I hated pretty much everything about it, really. Why did you like it?

FOKKEN HI LARIOUS M8

I can pretty much agree with you about the whole flashbacks things, but apart from that I quite liked it because it makes you slowly descend into what kind of miserable, perverted, joyless life he was living while presenting him as the cocky sure successful tough cop at the beginning. About the slick cool style, idk man, I think it has a lot to do with its source material

great ending

It was good, but I needed subtitles on. Scottish people should learn english.

it really, really wasn't.

should I feel stupid for not seeing the twist coming?
There was a source material ?
only thing I found tiresome was the office party shit, even then I saw it as necessary part of the film

>fedoracore
>taxi driver
>guy richie
>fight club

Now try again without using memes or comparing it to completely unrelated films.

BUTTHURT SCOTCUNT DETECTED

It was okay as a work-in-itself, but as a book adaptation it was very weak.

You never get pipers on victoria st.

>About the slick cool style, idk man, I think it has a lot to do with its source material
You might be right, I haven't read the book. I just thought there was a distasteful contrast between the utter scumminess of the character and the plot and the "cool" presentation and soundtrack choices. It seemed like the director was trying to make it palatable and appealing where it should've been grimy and rough. But to be totally frank, I probably wouldn't have been interested in such a meaningless film about such a pathetic character no matter how they filmed it, so maybe I was just the wrong audience. I don't mind dark films, I don't mind unlikeable characters, but I just couldn't see any point at all in this one.

I believe the style mirrored how he sees himself, if you notice, it becomes darker and less cool towards the end, as he starts to realize who he really is. It fit very well the theme of the character in my opinion

I also think it was great

anyone know what the porn movie was?

By far the worst Welsh adaptation and that's saying something considering T2 exists

lmao

The film was much less dark than the book. I struggled to get through the book because it was such a gruelling read and the protagonist was such an utter scumbag.

>distasteful contrast between the utter scumminess of the character and the plot and the "cool" presentation and soundtrack choices. It seemed like the director was trying to make it palatable and appealing where it should've been grimy and rough
You're on the money. The book makes you feel really disgusting. He does substantially worse shit in the book(Plants cp on a random guy on a plane, tries to get a dog to fuck a 15 y.o., fucks way more hookers).

The biggest letdown of the movie was that the tapeworm is barely in it.

You've got a good point there, I didn't think of it that way, but I still didn't like it. I just found it pointless.

>About the slick cool style, idk man, I think it has a lot to do with its source material
Not really, as pointed out the book is anything but cool, it's stomach-twisting and revolting

I liked it. I didn't love it. I've recommended it to others.

Can't really think of a way to get a talking tapeworm into the film without being absolutely cheesy to be honest

James McAvoy carries the whole movie

I can relate to the main character way too much.

When're they doing Marabou Stork Nightmares?

Based McAvoy is based.

Stopped reading at "fedoracore"

>There was a source material ?
>there are people who haven't read irvine welsh
Enjoy your inner monologue being in a scottish accent for the next several months.

It's true, though. This is a film for 15-year-old nihilists who think "life is shit" is a profound statement

Grunted like a pig with laughter when that happened. Mum didn’t know why I was laughing.

>The biggest letdown of the movie was that the tapeworm is barely in it.
Fucking shocked it made it in the film in any form. Thought it was an interesting take on it since you can't exactly translate something like that outside of the medium.

It was already pretty cheesey. I think it would have made the movie better honestly.

What’s fedora is you thinking that it’s for 15 year old nihilists when in actual fact it’s just a light hearted comedy for the über men.

You must have missed the whole second half of the movie.

I couldn't guess the twist either. I knew something was up with the flashbacks of his wife but I didn't know what.

>try to show this to other people
>a-are there subtitles? I don't know what they're saying

The doctor took over the part of the tapeworm

Vastly underrated movie. I watched it randomly when it first showed up on Netflix, now I recommend it to everyone.

As a Scotsman, I know this feel. People have asked me if I come with subtitles.

The only people who understand me easily outside of Scotland are New York Jews as they talk just as fast.

>Fedoracore
Is it 2011 still?

Your'e one of those self-proclaimed movie experts who sucks all the fun out of everything, aren't you?

I know, what I mean is that I was surprised to see it make it in the final movie, in any form at all.

Truly one of the best actors alive

>unregulated and unwarranted use of 'fuck', revealing you as an edgy leaning-homosexual liberal teenager
>liked this shit flick

adds up

God Poots was so fucking hot in this
10/10 movie just because of THAT scene
You know the one

I understand it just fine. The only problem I have is with some of the slang and phrases but I can usually figure it out from context.

McAvoy is one of the few actors I instantly watch a movie from

tv.jpg

I loved this and Observe and Report, any other great movies about mentally unstable cunts?

More like
>says things like "edgy leaning-homosexual liberal"
>doesn't like a movie where a white guy's wife leaves him and dates a black guy and has a cross dressing main character
Actually adds up

Bronson
In Bruges (if you count depressed and suicidal[/spoile]as mentally unstable)

Have you seen Split?

Seen em all anons, but thanks anyway

I'd recommend Kill List if you guys liked Filth

Fell apart towards the end for a safe ending.

checked m8

Matchstick Men is a good one. There aren't many movies like Filth, it's very unique. Hollywood would rather reboot the same old shit than make movies like this.

desu this is the scene that clinched the movie for me. He really nailed the revelation that he's bipolar

Me, too. I first noticed him in the UK Shameless - he's the best actor on the show. Then The Last King Of Scotland REALLY made me notice how good he is. Unfortunately he's been doing mostly capeshit now. He needs better roles, but I've heard he's all about getting easy parts so he has more time for drinking, these days.

Children of Dune, he can elevate a sci fi channel miniseries.

Same rules apply!

I used to be like this guy, then I grew out of it and now my life sucks. Don't buy the propaganda, it pays to be an arrogant bastard.

This scene is fucking gold. The way the films puts you inbetween hating the awful monster and pitying the poor man trapped within it, it just hit me strongly.

In this scene I realized how bad the coke had him, he was just doing a bunch of fucked up stuff without ever stopping to evaluate how he'd come to his current situation. Seeing him acknowledge how lost he was was crushing.

And of course this is all made possible by McAvoy's powerful performance.

Even in capeshit he's the best part in it. He's also doing a lot of theater plays.
I too hope he scores a big role

Jesus christ he's brilliant

>Watching Filth with your mum

Did you bang afterwards?

It was decent, only the ending stood out desu.

Forgot how good Poots is, too. That scene would be rough for most actors and actresses. Gotta rewatch this soon.

>McAvoy enthusiasts
my niggas

I haven't seen a better performance than McAvoy in Split this year, don't see why he shouldn't win an academy award for it

Definitely, she plays the "only person with the balls to confront the monster" perfectly.

Funny thing, I absolutely loved the film and the twist at the end, but the whole scene where he is kidnapped by the gang seemed off to me.

I meant the actual ending scene, that part rubbed me the wrong way but the ending was pretty great.

>the same rules apply
What did he honestly mean by this? Why was he so jovial at his suicide?

James McCavoy on being a "dynamic" actor in X-Men (starts at 14:50)

/ourguy/

McAvoy, Fassbender and Jackman, couch couldn't get more based

I truly don't know, I guess its up for individual interpretation.

I'm glad he didn't get redemption at the end. Even if I did end up feeling sorry for the guy he had done so much wrong that he deserved none of it.

To me it was like it was the final way to sabotage his own life and mess with the audience, like "it would be nice and easy if I got down and opened that door wouldn't it?" and then it ends.
