Kikujiro is a feel good movie. It is about a man and a boy traveling across Japan on a journey and they meet a cast of interesting characters and find themselves in funny situations.
Onibaba is a decent horror film about two peasent women who lure desperate samurai into a deathtrap to steal their belongings to trade for food. Then a man shows up which throws a wrench into their old life and one of the women makes plans to fix things.
Wyatt Long
Kwaidan is GOAT you filthy peasant! It's one of the most bautiful films ever made. I've rarely seen a visually more striking film.
Lincoln Gray
The Life of Oharu is a sad film. This woman leads a tragic life. It is a bit unrealistic how much shit piles on her over the course of her life. Still a decent film.
Justin Gray
Samurai Rebellion is a good a samurai film. Toshiro Mifune plays a master swordsman loyal to his fuedal lord but over the course of the film his family is met with repeated insults which finally leads to violence.

Have you not seen the Samurai Trilogy? I think these films have the best overall story among Samurai films.

Red Beard, this is the film that made Toshiro Mifune and Akira Kurosawa part ways. It is about a virtuous doctor who runs a clinic for the poor. He is also one of the best doctors in Japan and his expertise is sought by the rich and powerful. He takes on apprentice doctors routinely. They do it because they want to learn from the best and the plot follows the development of one of these apprentices where he transforms from a shallow person to a man of character.
Nathan Cox
>Despite widespread international screenings, the film has never been released on DVD in any country, including Japan. There is currently no way to watch The Warped Forest. It is unknown why the movie has never been commercially released.
The Pillow Book is a Western production that takes place in Japan and melds Western, Japanese and Chinese ideas. It is mostly in English and it is an erotic film. It's about a Japanese model who wants to complete a ritual of painting books on peoples bodies, Ewan McGregor is her lover. Weird film.
