to answer your question:
marines are dumb

that scene is pretty epic tho

SHOOT THAT MOTHERFUCKER

War film recommendation thread?

>screening for marines

Only the most low level IQ people join the army, and even the more dumber join the marines.

Generally speaking, people who kill other people for a living are not known for being the most intelligent.

>violating global rule 6
embarrassing

Redux is the better film. The plantation is essential, as is the playmate sequence (for contrasting youth exploitation with exploitation of soldiers in the war).

NOT

>Redux is the better film
it's entirely supplemental

Kurtz's speech is to this day I think the biggest breaking of a taboo ever seen in cinematic history. We so seek to separate ourselves from those who commit atrocities by calling them monsters, but Kurtz rightfully connected their ability to hurt with their ability to love. Probably one of the hardest truths of existence. I'm still amazed by his dialog sometimes.

Clean doesn't even get a funeral in the theatrical version.

Yeah I rarely see people discussing the content of his monologue, more so "Brando was fat." The things Kurtz had to say about Vietnam are completely applicable to the Iraq War, and the war in Afghanistan. Those people are fighting for their homeland, Americans are fighting because they're told to. If you're going to tell them to fight, give them every possible tool to do it. Don't bullshit about humane ways to kill people.

Or even to every horrible thing people have done. We want to divide things into men and monsters, but monsters don't exist, they're mythological creatures used to explain things we don't understand. It's a bleak, horrific reality, but it is reality.

So what you're saying is that man was the TRUE monster all along?

At least I see, we are the Apocalypse Now

How many people did Francis have executed for that lag?

Please be trolling

Does it only bother me?

Jarhead is unironically one of the best war movies.

I don't know, maybe it's just because I was used to the original edit for most of my life, but while I like some of the redux scenes I just can't get used to them breaking up the movie I'm familiar with and consider pretty much perfect.
