Is falling for nostalgia porn literally the most mouth-breathing, shit-munching, plebian meme that you could fall for?

And it's perfectly possible for something to be set in the past and not traffic in cheap nostalgia bullshit. Mindhunter is the perfect example: the social mores of the 70s is an organic part of the plot, but it never once relies on the crutch of I REMEMBER THE 70S LOL XD

tl;dr: Stranger Things sucks

OP is angry

Are you ?
Why are you so triggered?

no I'm different
I notice that the posts so far are responding to my tone, rather than to my argument

How can I be nostalgic for the 80's when I was born in '94?

Seriously? Like, really?
Nostalgia doesn't only apply to things you literally lived through.

...

Definition of nostalgia
>1 :the state of being homesick :homesickness
>2 :a wistful or excessively sentimental yearning for return to or of some past period or irrecoverable condition; also :something that evokes nostalgia

Exactly.

>Didn't grow up in the 80s
>Didn't which many 80s movies besides ones like Alien/The Thing/etc which aren't reliant on the decade
>Still enjoy Stranger Things

Its objectively well made m8. I have no real connection to that decade but I enjoy it a fair bit. S2 is not nearly as good as S1, but all the basic stuff is there: editing, music, actors, cast, writing, set design, story, even effects.

Its comfy because its very good at what it does: which is great child-actor performances and some scifi-horror stuff that isn't as common nowadays.

The experience of going to parties as a teenager, or playing DnD as a kid, biking around the neighborhood, etc has nothing to do with the 80s but because its really well replicated people enjoy it regardless.

>watching the post show interviews with the bald community fag
Jesus christ the adults are dumber than the kids. Shawn Levy might be the most unbearably retarded idiot I've ever seen.

season 1 was cool because of 80s vibe and mystery

season 2 just turned out to be a monster killing series

I was born in fucking 91, and most of my idiotic "nostalgia" for things that were before my time is for the 70's. Believe it or not, some people like Stranger Things because they think it's a good show, not because of the nostalgia porn.

To be fair, I think they wanted the thematic continuity of basically doing Alien.

>S1 = one big Demagorgon that kills everyone and is threatening as hell
>S2 = several small Demagorgons (i.e. "Aliens") which are easier to kill but swarm and coordinate against people.

Still interested to see what they do next, I can't imagine it can remain good for much longer since the story is so limited. Like what the fuck is going to happen? Billy or some other person is contaminated from the Mind Flayer and we get EVEN MORE spooky hijinks? How could they POSSIBLY coverup the science lab now?

I like the cast and all, but the story can't go any further than 1 more season at this rate.

really? i thought the kids where annoying as fuck. you could see the shock in the directors face when the kids would tell them they're wrong about things, like
>you little shit i created the series, i think i know the answer
and the kids (like kids will do) boldly looked right at him and would make up their own answer.

kind of funny to watch it happen several times.

Season 2 was more of a victim of nostalgia-baiting. Season 1 was a compelling story that took place in the 80s and felt like it could've been made in the 80s, being inspired by a lot of horror/thrillers from that time. Season 2 piled on the "woaaaaah arcade cabinets and ghostbusters maaaaaan" shit way to much.

i think there's still stuff they could explore, such as possible portal opening up again since now the mindflayer seems personally invested in fucking with the kids specifically 11 and will.

but they could also go into exploring the missing children/siblings of 11.

they could go akira and make 11 evil and kill her.

they could explore more dnd monsters.

>dude look at me I hate everything that you guys like!! See? See? I’m special!!

Joyless life my man

Honestly I think the most interesting thing might be continuing RIGHT after S2.

You could have sort of a Carrie-esque beginning where all the kids get fucked with by some Mindflayer habbening, and then still make use of the Labratory since its not that long after the end of S2.

Alternatively they may just end up doing something like the Goonies where its more light hearted and has nothing to do with supernatural stuff. Either way, as long as the production levels and cast are there it'll be good. They just need to have a logical story progression.

>Mindhunter is the perfect example: the social mores of the 70s is an organic part of the plot, but it never once relies on the crutch of I REMEMBER THE 70S LOL

you're right, it relies on cuckoldry as the main plot of the show, and "those guys are hardly black panthers, they're engineering students"

fuck off

i think they have to do a time skip again, unless they filmed a few extra scenes to add them to s4.

because it's going to be noticeable they've aged by the next time they film. by the time s4 comes out and they're doing press they're going to look like proper teenagers and not kids at all.

I tried to fight back against Redditor Things but nobody joined me. This is the path you all chose.

What exactly is so nostalgic about Stranger Things anyway? The only reason that they set it into the 80's is to not have the characters on the phone all the time, and make them get out of the house whenever they want to check something, not just google it.

Kids are kids. Shawn Levy screaming all the time with his nu male demeanor was unwatchable, I watched like 5 minutes and skipped all the episodes he was in

>nostalgia porn

I was born in 1999. Stranger Things is just a fun show with likeable characters.

I dropped this show after the first episode a year ago. I would have pushed forward if I knew it was gonna be a THING and now its so big that im too contrarian to come back to it lol

lol wat the duffle bag brothers explicity created this show because of their obsession with 80's movies and their childhood during that magical time. Their pitch to netflix was a compilation of clips from 80's movies that was just meant to capture "the feel" of nostalgia they were going for.

>1999
You're not even old enough to experience nostalgia.

that kid in the cap seriously looks like a fucking otter
