Is this one of the most overrated movies ever?

>majority of movie is "it's just a dream" cliche
>rest of the plot is just a lesbian getting her ex killed because she's jealous and then kills herself
>extremely forced lesbian scenes
>hardly any suspense/major twists that Lynch is known for
do people praise this because of Naomi Watts scissoring with another chick?

No, you dont understand the Hollywood as 'Dream Factory' angle, a great tradition of American cinema.

It was pretty fucking suspenseful man come, that whole silencio scene and them getting back to the apartment was creepy as shit.

the Silencio part was good, but then Betty just randomly dissapears and everything falls apart from there

>He doesn't understand that films can be about more than just the plot.

Why are you here again?

...

If I didn't want a plot, especially from a fucking Lynch movie, then I'd just watch a documentary or something like March of the Penguins

Lynch hasn't made any documentaries or penguin movies though

If you're watching Lynch for the plot, then I've got some bad news for you, buddy.

then I can't watch a non-plot based Lynch movie

Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks are both proof that Lynch can do plot

>creepy as shit
t. brainlet
Nothing Lynch has made is creepy. More hilarious than creepy

>just turn your brain off, enjoy the ride!
Kill yourself

Who are you quoting?

Mulholland Drive has a simple and concise plot you retards. It's just the way that it's told that makes it confusing.

That theme has been done to death tho. People only like this flick because they think this conventionally straightforward surrealist story is a rubix cube and it makes them feel smart

Are you quoting yourself or something?

My original point was that the plot WAS extremely simple and most of it can be swept under the rug after the dream sequence, which was the bulk of the movie.

>It's just the way that it's told that makes it confusing
Not really unless you've never heard of a non-sequitur before

Not arguing with you there, just explaining that the main point of Lynch films really is not the plot.

That's the point they're making, the plot isn't what people appreciate in the movie. Although mulholland drive is lynch's most overrated movie, this guys criticisms are damn stupid.

Nevermind. You don't even have a brain.

you sound like a faggot

Then what is the point

if I wanted to watch lesbians fuck with a piss-poor story then I'd go to Brazzers you deflecting bitch

...

No, THIS was the most over-rated film

wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The point is, like Lynch has explained many times, to create emotions and visuals that linger with the audience.

I didn't know retards were self-aware

David Lynch Fans Tier List

BRAINLET TIER:
Watching Lynch for the plot

PLEB TIER:
Watching Lynch for the wacky surrealism

PATRICIAN TIER:
Watching Lynch for his fascinating perception of human interaction

ELDER GOD TIER:
Watching Lynch for the cute girls

Then he's a failure. All I got was a fart in the wind.

All of Lynch's movies pull the "it's just a dream" cliche, but that doesn't stop them from being good. Lynch's visual style and biggest motif draws heavily on dream logic.

t. brainlet

>I watch it for the plot

>fascinating perception of human interaction
Not an original one
>Watching Lynch for the cute girls
I'd rather watch child porn

Lynch isn't known for that many twists, either. Yes, his movies have a few twists and turns, but he's not M. Night. Schmtalimeme.

Blue Velvet disagrees

Emotions aren't intelligent. Go watch a daytime soap, faggot.

>The plot in this is so simple and dumb I understand it but it's just dumb

What's the difference?

I agree

>What is Twin Peaks?

You're a retard, there's one.

It's a collection of really good scenes that kinda work, although the actual plot is fairly mundane. If it became a TV show like intended, it probably would've went nowhere with pointless mysteries and an inevitable quality drop when Lynch got bored of fucking the actresses.

Edge of Night for millennials

>Emotions are for retards, I need a good plot to feed my intellect

>Laura Dern
>cute

The only emotion I get from Artemision Bronze is narcissism

A show that starts out as a soap opera but then devolves into a 20 hour Lynch porno

at least he had good taste in women

More like I need a good plot to keep me invested in the story

You're all too busy being smart alecks

BASED cowboyposter

Yeah, if you simplify any movie like that they can sound pretty dumb. I agree.

It was supposed to be a TV show pilot and arguably all of the good reviews are based upon the first two-thirds of the film.

The final third is basically added on on as an afterthought, because Lynch needed an ending and hence the mind-screw. IIRC the scissoring scene was also filmed alongside the ending and inserted into the film because Lynch needed to sell the "evil lesbian kills her lover/rival" angle to make the final act work and because, since it was no longer going to air on TV, but movies, he could get away with pushing boundaries with a borderline X-Rated sex scene.

You know what got me? The movie starts as like this 90s Goosebumps type of camera work and acting, then slowly makes its way into more raw, real acting and emotion. Was this calculated or a happy mistake?

You only like disliking this flick because calling it easy to understand makes you feel smart.

You should be checked for brain hemorrhage, scamp.

Most people aren't familiar with acting, you're one of them.

>le mindfuck director

His only good movie is Elephant Man

trips of truth

You should be checked for dicks up your ass, faggot.

/tpg/ cringe bitch

Kek

the criterion interviews almost ruin this scene for me because you can clearly see Monty's eyes scanning a cue card as he says his lines. I guess that could/does add to the whole idea of a surrealist Hollywood dream

This movie is cliche, predictable, xD quirky and randumb for the sake of it without needing to be. Honestly don't see the hype

Never understood why this was considered above blue velvet or even fire walk with me.

only movie that ever left me scratching my head.
been so long since i watched it (only once when it was new release) but from memory i think i kept thinking a scene would tie everything together but it never came.

FOR FUCK SAKE SOMEBODY JUST POST THE FUCKING LESBIAN SCENES AS WEBMS

Mulholland Dr. is appropriately rated. Inland Empire is overrated by pseuds.

yes. lost highway is essentially the same movie yet with much less critical acclaim

This

I like Lost Highway better desu

agree

this is a christian blue board

The truth: Lynch ripped off alot of this movie from the 5th Hellraiser which came out a year before
>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellraiser:_Inferno

>Naomi Watts scissoring with another chick?
That other chick is a lot hotter than Watts

...

Lost highway is just Mulholland Drive but manlier

wha?

Fuckin newfag...

>in dreams, i walk, with youuuuuu
