Episodes the past few seasons have been too plot driven, which leaves very little room for any comedy. You could argue that the heavy plot itself is the joke, however if you've been watching the latest episodes you'll notice how it just drags onnnn and onnnn until it becomes tiresome and dull.
I'm a massive South Park fan, but Trey & Matt are in their late 40's now with kids. There's no way they could maintain a show this late in life about 4 "potty-mouthed" kids and the wacky town they live in. It's a shame, because they have the potential to still produce good episodes, but they are dangerously heading towards Simpsons territory of overstaying their welcome. Though some would argue that they are already in that territory.
