He responds to the critique of actual soy boys and girls user, the feminists hate the film.
And his response is great, he portrays female just like male ones, with all the various flaws and positive traits like any other character would have.

What a fucking cuck. It's no surprise why reddit numales love this shit and get so defense when attacked
The majority of the world is not kind to women because of what happens when they're let off the leash.
>“There’s a sense in American cinema: you want to portray an ideal world. You want to portray a utopia,” Villeneuve explained. “That’s good — dreams for a better world, to advocate for something better, yes. But if you look at my movies, they are exploring today’s shadows. The first Blade Runner is the biggest dystopian statement of the last half century. I did the follow-up to that, so yes, it’s a dystopian vision of today. Which magnifies all the faults. That’s what I’ll say about that.”
This actually seems pretty resonable
if women have it bad, then what does it say about men , K was the main character and he had it the worst
Hit the nail on the head.
Men heading towards melancholic loneliness and burying themselves in their toys.
Women heading towards having power, realizing that it doesn't bring them happiness, and then being restrained by their original aspirations.
Then at the end of the day you'll have two genders where a significant number of people on both sides drank the koolaid and ended up being miserable.
>the child is a woman
>the angels are all women androids
>the rebel leader is a female android
>the police chief is a real woman
>the main antagonist is a female android
>none of the male characters are vitally important
>deckard abdicates his role of a father in order to protect his child which makes absolutely no sense but its in the story
>joe is believed by the audience and by himself to be special but it is revealed he is not special
>class warfare between the ultra ultra rich and the skinners or androids
Holy shit this is Fury Road level feminist propaganda
He's right, we're not kind to women. We expect them to be responsible, powerful, and even smart creatures. We should know better than to expect those things. I'm a feminist now.
>the angels are all women androids
I think you might be a retard
>none of the male characters are vitally important
Except...K...and Deckard...and Wallace..
>class warfare between the ultra ultra rich and the skinners or androids
Nowhere in the
>Holy shit this is Fury Road level feminist propaganda
So this...is your brain on Sup Forums
>anti-pol
soy runners show their true colors again.
Are you implying FR wasn't propaganda?
He's absolutely correct, it's not a reasonable criticism to assume females should be strong and independent women in the future
This.
This soy meme is fucking retarded
So you would've liked him to show a very unrealistic feminist future? You poltards are just like SJWs just with different buzzwords
>What a fucking cuck
have you seen him speak?, have you seen his clothes? have you seen Arrival, which is bassically White Woman saves the world with the help of BBC aliens? this should not surprise you
This.
>BBC aliens
O B S E S S E D
ah yes women the eternal victims, the new kikes, 6 gorillion raped a second
>BBC aliens
We are all laughing an memeing while Abbot is death process.
Fuck.
>again
Reminder that the film is indeed very feminist, like all villeneuve bullshits. Wake up, fucking autists.
Fucking JOI appearing with her 50s style was not meant to seem enjoyable, but just represent the "oppressive" fantasies of the male protag, that's it. All the other females are le strong woman etc. And yes, he's a fucking leaf, just look at him, you can practically smell the soy just by looking at this face.
Oh boy. Feminist extremists hating on everything yet again.
They really need to chill out and just enjoy things for what they are and not read so much into what isn't there.
You are not better than the butthurt feminazi.
This. French Canadians are worse than the ones from Vancouver
>And I’m sorry, but the world is not kind on women.
well, he's right, look at Asia and Africa
>Fucking JOI appearing with her 50s style was not meant to seem enjoyable, but just represent the "oppressive" fantasies of the male protag, that's it
Wrong. You can interpret the movie however you like I guess but that's not what the makers were going for.
Also Ana the daughter is very timid and empathetic. There was no strong woman bullshit coming from her
Joi and Luv were there for sex appeal. Same as Rachael.
Also Luv was under the control of a man. What kind of feminist propaganda is that?
Yeah the world is really kind to men getting their limbs blown off in wars.
>Guy is pressured into talking about the female characters in his films
>Gives a great response
>Accurately portrays both male and female characters with flaws in his movies
>What a cuck soyboy he doesn't just hate women like we do lol
You're embarrassing
>BBC aliens
Holy fucking soy, you really are obsessed
This.
Based Villenueuve doesn't fall for Feminist tricks.
Literally canceled my pre-ordering of the bluray.
>Are you implying FR wasn't propaganda?
It really wasn't, in fact you'll be hard pressed to find a starker depiction of traditional gender roles. Men exist to fight and die, women exist to be bred, and women who defy that are deformed and sterile rejects.
>muh strong women
None of whom were able to protect themselves on their own
.
>Furiosa took the shot Max couldn't!
and she was unable to do it without Max providing support. What kind of feminist power statement is that exactly, that all female achievement is literally accomplished on the backs of men?
>b-but the bad guy was a MAN!
Yes? and? the bad guy usually IS a man, because we are the active gender that actually does things.
Face it, you got played by the SJW media buzz machine.
All I see are false flagging soybois bitter that Blade Runner 2049 was not a dumpster fire like that GitS with Scarjew. When it comes to Cyber Punk modern movies. Blade Runner 2049 did it right.
>literal patriarchy bad guy who literally MILK women
>bald dike as protag saving poor sex slaves
>misandric biker grandmas with le seed
>literally rising to power at the end
B-but you got played here user, it was not UBER feminist propaganda at all! Sup Forums autism at its finest.
To most people it's an empowering feminist tale but the film itself implies women cause the collapse of Immortan's city.
>The people start worshiping Furiosa just like they did for Joe at the end, Max gives her a knowing look as he walks off into the sunset
>The milk machines throw open the floodgates of water, almost certainly dooming the garden at the top of the fortress and wasting the resource
Director Denis Villeneuve Tries to Defend His Portrayal of Women in Blade Runner 2049
>Now, Villeneuve has a point. The world of Blade Runner 2049 is a dystopia built on the idea that our current capitalist patriarchy follows its own logic into a despairing and destructive future. As such, this world should be misogynist, because Lord knows our present world is. However, I think Villeneuve is deliberately misunderstanding some elements of the criticism here – and to be fair, Hoffman is letting him off easy with the framing of the question.
>Critics didn’t just complain about the trappings of the world – though, let’s be real, this was a shockingly white world for a movie set in the Los Angeles of the future, and as such, completely failed to provide a “mirror” for what is currently a very diverse city in a very diverse country. And so I do think the excuse of showing the world as it is falls flat when you’re weirdly removing all the people of color from your future. That’s not what our society looks like, dude.
>That said, it’s still true that criticisms of Blade Runner 2049 weren’t limited to the setting. They also extended to the arcs for the female characters. Women characters who live in a sexist world do not have to be written as sexist stereotypes themselves. Hell, we currently live in a sexist society, and yet dozens of TV shows manage to write complex women with agency and desires. And so, while I think it is acceptable and even arguably necessary to represent our world’s oppression of women onscreen, it’s just as crucial to remember: portrayal is not critique. Including an element is not the same as holding it up for criticism, and what I believe most critics of Blade Runner 2049 were pointing out is how little it pushes back against the misogyny of its setting.
>literal patriarchy bad guy who literally MILK women
Yes, as I said a stark depiction of traditional gender roles.
>bald dike as protag saving poor sex slaves
>misandric biker grandmas with le seed
Remember those sterile and deformed rejects I mentioned?
>literally rising to power at the end
perhaps you missed the part where one of them is pregnant with Immortan Joe's child and heir.
>I appreciate that Villeneuve does think about the portrayal of women, and I certainly don’t think that he can’t make movies about women. (After all, Arrival offered a beautiful, moving portrayal of a woman scientist, and Robin Wright’s Lieutenant Joshi is a plenty rounded character in Blade Runner 2049.) Instead, I think his thinking here reveals the way that privilege can stunt your imagination. He clearly had trouble imagining what it might be like to be a woman when the world’s treatment of you does not correspond to your own understanding of yourself. When he pictures a future where the world sees some women as exploitable sex objects meant to serve, he cannot imagine that the women treated that way might not agree. Both Joi and Luv evolve, yes, but never in ways that challenge an understanding of themselves as tied to and in service of male needs. And that, ultimately, is what I think bothered people about Blade Runner 2049.
>I’m hopeful that Villeneuve’s next project will avoid this misstep, as many of his previous efforts have. But I think that’ll only happen if he learns the right lesson from this one.
>>I’m hopeful that Villeneuve’s next project will avoid this misstep, as many of his previous efforts have. But I think that’ll only happen if he learns the right lesson from this one.
Hopefully he wont, because this movie was perfect considering the meddling jewery fingers in most mass demographic films produced today in Hollywood.
>a dystopian vision of today
This is what I dont fucking get, what do these people expect from a dystopian future? Equality and stronk women? Not to mention most of the people in power aside from the primary antagonist where all women. The corporate person trying to purchase LITERAL SLAVES was a black female ffs
Just means regardless of being a man or woman. Greed for power and control knows no gender.
>Male character's boss is a strong woman
>Leader of the replicant resistance is a woman
>Main physical threat is a woman
>Major pillar of the story is the power of birth, something only women can do
>Female replicant is killed by male creator because she cannot give birth
>Large part of what makes the dystopian society dystopian is its treatment of women (sex droids, holographic strippers, etc...)
>Male protagonist learns he is not special and that the female twin is the true messiah
>Director has proven track record of having women-centric films and storylines with Arrival and Sicario
Yet this movie is somehow sexist. People who see this film as sexist cannot understand that portrayal of something bad happening to women is not an endorsement of such behavior. If you cannot understand this then you have no business in film or culture critique.
shit happens when you're not able to euthanize users of /r9k/ and Sup Forums
Something something cheeto dust dishonest something
>every Villeneuve movie is about motherhood
>surprised villenueve is a feminist
really, nigger?
>>none of the male characters are vitally important
K is the central character in the story, the entire movie is about his character arc. Wallace is hugely important in the movie's world and so is Deckard by virtue of what he knows.
>a prostitute that gropes men without them asking
Then why do feminists hate both Sicario and BR2049?
Trying to apply logic to irrational feminism is pointless.
Lol, is he talking about the US? Because I can’t think of a more coddled and privileged group of people than women.
Please go back to your containment board.
The world ain't kind to men either
do they hate sicario? I think more people hated the fact that Sicario made Juarez a living hellhole and Juarez got butthurt hard.
Yes, same articles with "waaaah the main female protagonist is portrayed as not the stronkest girl ever waaaaaah"
Also, Juarez is a shithole indeed.
Yes, that's what the director is trying to say. He portrays both the female and male characters with all their flaws and positive traits
HOT POCKET VIDEO GAME
HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAAAAAYYYYY WITH IT
it's never enough for them. unless the character is like Rey it's never fucking enough for them. They literally want every female character to be a mary sue.
Not good enough!
Every movie must be about smashing the patriarchy. Even future sci-fi.
That's exactly what the resistance is doing. They literally want to bring down a man who sees himself as a god who wishes to control he female body to suit his own means. These people obviously don't understand what sci-fi is about. The majority of sci-fi are the are about futures where one bad aspect of it is amplified to question our own society as it is now.
Shows how many people actually read the article.
>soyboys btfo
These people just want their beliefs validated on the big screen. It's kind of pathetic, they'll never consider anything outside of what they believe, in any context.
>Villeneuve is a soyboy
>Da Armas supports BLM
wtf I hate Blade Runner now
>And I’m sorry, but the world is not kind on women.”
This is 100% true for any place on earth outside of:
>Europe
>Australia
>USA
>Canada
>NZ
>Japan
>South Korea
Every other place on this planet is not a nice place to be as a woman. Just because women have it all here in Europe, doesnt mean that all women are "living the life".
>patriarchy controls all resources
>imperator furiosa (affirmative action/women's rights)
>morbidly obese women generating milk because women who have children are yucky breeders
>antagonist's unwilling brides are all skinny and more attractive than other women in the movie
>one-armed woman in charge of war machine and troops
>max crucified to vehicle (christianity is evil and part of patriarchy)
>3 main antagonists: joe, bullet farmer, gas town "people eater" (patriarchy, military industrial complex, capitalism)
>both of joe's sons dissabled in some way (eww don't have kids, it's yucky and they'll be retarded)
>war boy Nux (men) gets accused by women of having destroyed the world, tossed out of truck
>pregnant wife puts her own baby between joe's bullet and truck (abortion)
>pregnant wife falls from truck, dies a few hours later from injury (don't marry and reproduce or your life is over)
>side character named max is big and burly but can barely fight a scrawny one-armed woman
>side character max bests woman only when he gets a gun and places it to her head (gun control. also, Theron's father killed her mother with a gun in south africa)
>bullet farmer nearly kills all women (gun control again)
>max has to wash blood from his face using breast milk (motherhood is the death of happiness)
>Nux is rehabilitated and now a male feminist
>group of amazon lesbians setting traps for men in desert
>women able to live in sand filled void because STRONK WOMYN
>old women in desert shoot better than war boys who have constant practice in raids
>old woman has a bag of seeds (hope)
>side character max wants to retake joe's citadel because it is unguarded
>convoy turns around (leftist revision history)
>people eater (capitalism) fat old bald man with gold nipple piercings, has to be lifted to his vehicle on the backs of poor
>desert lesbian amazons making perfect headshots from speeding vehicle on uneven terrain
>polecat minion plucks woman from her friends, delivers her to patriarchy
>desert lesbian amazons fall from motorcycle and dodge speeding vehicles
>amazon grabs rifle, continues to make perfect shots
>finally run over by people eater (capitalism as he takes control of the wheel and purposely kills woman)
>pursuit vehicles use harpoons and plows to try to slow truck (patriarchy holding back women's rights)
>max and nux now male feminists must help their women leaders
>max nearly falls from truck, charlize grabs him with the sheer might of her robot arm and strong will can hold up man three times her weight without prosthetic arm flying off
>max's v8 interceptor destroyed (manhood and patriarchy destroyed while saved by a woman)
>furiosa survives stab in gut by evil man
>nux given command of truck as furiosa jumps to joe's car
>max uses people eater as human shield against joe's bullets (using patriarchy to destroy capitalism via male feminist)
>max jumps to safety of women as capitalism explodes
>joe's massive son corpus fooled by woman who helps her get furiosa to joe's car
>max fights giant corpus
>furiosa rips mouth from joe (patriarchy no longer has say in women's lives)
>women quickly leave war machine for joe's leadership vehicle
>blonde wife takes seeds from old lesbian who is now dead but smiling
>nux sacrifices life to destroy war truck, corpus, and stop pursuing vehicles and thereby serve women
>gang returns to citadel, present dead patriarchy, toss him from hood where legions of poor tear his body apart
>intelligent but disabled son of joe pressured to let furiosa and brides up to citadel via lift
>he allows them up, they ascend to paradise while the poor are allowed to come up with them (open borders to promised land)
>furiosa looks down at sea of poor, sees side character max look up at her as he disappears into obscurity
And this is off the top of my head. Thinking back, there are plenty of things I forgot to mention like the brides arguing about moving on after the pregnant one, Splendid, fell from the truck and died. The dark haired bride (hispanic or muslim) wants to go back to the patriarchy but the white ones explain to her that they must be strong and go on without men.
It's a modern action movie with plenty of CG, but it's not a Mad Max movie since he's just a side character. It's a feminism action movie with the Mad Max name to get more people in seats, specifically men who need to be taught the glory of feminism and self-sacrifice to push feminist goals. In the beginning of the movie, Max was used as an unwilling blood bag for Nux. Towards the end, he willingly becomes a blood bag for Furiosa to keep her alive.
rude
The movie is full of strong female roles.
The feminists are just mad because of the electronic girls and synthetics having babies.
It's basically all they have to offer, a wet fuckable hole and the ability to have babies
Take away those things and they have no power over men
>but the world is not kind on women
The world isn't kind to men either. This is a meaningless statement.
>People who see this film as sexist cannot understand that portrayal of something bad happening to women is not an endorsement of such behavior.
I personally, wholeheartedly blame Roger Ebert for this exact line of shit criticism. He hated Blue Velvet specifically because Frank Booth, the antagonist, was mean to a fictional character played by his waifu at the time.
He was responding to accusations of sexism and clarifying that BR2049 wasn't meant to take place in an ideal world. The men didn't have it any easier.
>He was responding to accusations of sexism
This. He cant just say "fuck off crazy people" so he has to give lip service.
Giving them an inch and accommodating them is how they win. They're pushing the boundary every single day.
Except he didn't really accommodate them. Accommodation would've been issuing a formal apology.
You might actually be retarded
Yes that's what he tries to clarify here. Read the article
/thread
>>joe is believed by the audience and by himself to be special but it is revealed he is not special
Story of my life desu
the average joe... Get it?
so thats only 1/10th of the women who are spoilt entitled lazy shits
the rest still do fine as it is by default because they are women.
>Why didn't "The Golden Compass" movie work?
I ask myself that every day ;_;
j***
yeah i'm sure all those third-worlder men have it ezpz lemon squeezy
you're more insane than the people you're ranting about lmao
why does this make so many people mad?
I know how to fix it. I'm going to film this extra footage and add it to the BD.
>after deckard meets his daughter, we cut back to the sunken spinner where luv's body floats
>suddenly her eyes snap open and she rises to the surface
>cut to her walking determinedly the hall at wallace corp
>she marches right up to wallace and kungfu kicks his head off
>then she says "you're out of touch old man, now I'm the future"
>fade out as luv sits in a throne-like chair
>fade in on a woman working on something on a bench
>there's a clicking noise and the woman exclaims "aha, I did it!"
>the resistance leader freysa walks on screen behind her and we can tell this woman is a replicant tech expert working for the resistance
>there's another click as tech woman activates what she was working on
>suddenly joi appears and with a dazed expression asks "what? who am I?"
>freysa says simply "our hope"
>cut to black where the text fades in "BLADE RUNNER REVOLUTIONS: COMING 2019"
Do it
I've never seen it but I am annoyed by it clearly being spammed by someone who feels they're on some mission to convince people this movie is bad.
Fuck off soycuck. Go worship women on reddit or Sup Forums.
>the world is not kind on women
Back to rebbit pleb
It's a story of officer K retard

"UH....BLADE RUNNER 2049 IS NOT THAT GOOD....UH....RYAN GOSLING WAS OKAY....UHH THE VISUALS ARE GREAT...UH YOU DEFINITELY CARE ABOUT HIS HOLOGRAM WAIFU....UHHHHH....UHHHH...."
Stopped watching after 2 minutes, fucking cringing
Sup Forums is a piece of shit but it can be a decent stepping stone.
The true nature of the Blade Runner 2049 tourist shows itself.
