What was the fucking point of his character?
The Shining
he was a ______ cook
He was... a nigger.
To explain what Shining was.
A demonstration of nig inferiority. He died in the most easily avoidable way.
Are there american movies without niggers in them?
exposition
trope subversion
that's about it
Provided exposition to the audience on what "the shining" was.
His death also served to confirm how demented and corrupted Jack had become by that point. The viewer might have had doubts that Jack had truly been capable of murder before this scene, but now all doubt was removed, and Jack could be seen as the very real threat he'd become.
To tell people what was going on.
I used to think this was the Scatman who had the song in the 90s.
Tvtropes: magical negro
In the movie he had no point after he left the hotel. That was one of the many problems with the movie.
A nigger?
see He also served as a distraction so Wendy could get away, in terms of immediate practicality.
>many problems with the movie
care to elaborate?
He was Jazz in Transformers G1 so he was pretty based imo.
the fact that he also had the shining established that danny's gift was real and he wasn't just some mentally ill autistic kid losing it. also red herring with people thinking he'll show up in the end and rescue everyone.
>red herring with people thinking he'll show up in the end and rescue everyone.
This because in the book he did rescue them.
He brought Wendy the only workable vehicle available up in the mountains. He was also probably responsible for ordering all of the food that they lived off of for the months they stayed there, as well.
Doesn't pass the Beschdel test
That's scary please delete because my heart can't take it.
Stephen King's adaptation just went full retard without being subtle in the slightest.
Ask Stephen
When's he getting arrested?
Drew Barrymore: Proof that nobody has ever really cared about exploitation in Hollywood.
When you've decided, at the age of 14, to enter rehab because you feel that your partying days need to be over, then your childhood was garbage. Who is finished with cocaine and alcohol at the age of 14?
She was in a movie called Firestarter that's an adaptation of one of his books. It's like a joke because she was the little kid that could start fires with her mind and there she is lighting his cigarette aka being the firestarter it's a joke. just because you're a worthless pedo doesn't mean everyone else is.
Dick gets Jack'd
what mean Stanley ?
>just because you're a worthless pedo doesn't mean everybody else is
>defending a man who wrote in great detail about children fucking in a sewer
/ourguy/
Cocaine is a hell of a drug!
King = BOB
Do you wanna play with fire, little girl?
to explain what shinning is
I'll take what is schizophrenia for 500 Alex.
In the book when dick shows up he see's the spirits in the hotel leaving. He is hit with a croquet mallet but not killed. Jack starts to regain some of his mind after he corners danny. Danny wendy Dick escape. Jack get blown up by the boiler. Jack was redeemed. In the movie they simply Kill dick to show Jack is a madman. But we already knew that. It was pure lazy shock value.
THATS NOT HOW YOU PLAY JEOPARDY YOU FUCKER. THE ANSWER IS IN THE FORM OF A QUESTION, NOT THE CATEGORY. $500 ISNT EVEN A VALID AMOUNT.
whatever man that's the point of his character
No it's not for shock value. The movie spends 30 minutes building up to Hallorann returning to the Overlook only for him to instantly die, for the same reason you see the crushed red VW (the car that Jack owned in the book) whilst he is driving to the hotel. It's Kubrick BTFOing King's inferior book by subverting aspects of the original story just because he can.
To deliver the snowcat. Anything else was unnecessary.
