The writers clearly didn't know what they were doing beyond making jokes. At least they were good at that.

They're not meant to be talking face-to-face. Some spic macho thing I guess, but part of it probably was to conceal the height difference a bit. But it's not trying to use forced perspective to try and make it look like they're face-to-face, despite what Sup Forums may say.
