>25 minutes in
already better than The Last Jedi worst so far is cgi tarkin, but it's tolerable

why couldn't disney just had made "star wars stories" and left the trilogy alone?

Yeah it's not bad. It's leagues better than TFA or TLJ

Beats me. They probably thought the hacks they put in charge of being original could handle the worldbuilding responsibility. Massive miscalculation.

Easily the third or fourth best movie in the franchise.

V>IV>R1>VI
>POWER GAP
III>I>II
>LARGEST QUANTIFIABLE POWER GAP
FA

The first 25 minutes were rubbish. If you thought that was decent you aren't seen nothing yet.

This.

The down points for me were the lack of an opening crawl, because every fucking piece of Star Wars media has a crawl, and that Jyn and her crew aren't really interesting characters. Have a crawl and focus more on Imperials and it's even better film.

Patrician taste

for me, its IV, R1
the rest can be remade with luke and leia not related
and darth and luke not related

>FA

Cassian is one of my all time favorite characters. Not sure why exactly, but he is cool as hell. Loved when he killed the informant that wouldn't have been able to get away.

My only problem with him is Luna doesn't sell the scenes on Eadu well enough to believe it; since it doesn't seem like he can hear what Krennic is saying and his change of heart is not well-acted if that's the case.

I think he could tell just by looking through his binoculars that something about the scene was off even though he couldn't hear what Krennic was saying. I also think he was having second thoughts because of what Jyn had told him. He believed her or at least had enough of a hunch to disobey those orders. Humanity began to creep into his character.

Even the space battles and effects were way better. Compare the final space battle in Rogue 1 with anything in TFA/TLJ.

Rogue kino thread?

I really didn't like all the scenes involving Saw Gerrera and his band. Conceptually depicting a rogue rebel cell as space ISIS makes perfect sense, but somehow it wasn't handled well.

The tentacle mindrape scene was dumb, they should get rid of that to make time to flesh out the relationship between Saw and Jyn. It would also allow them to give more meaning why Saw decided to off himself instead of escape with them.

I'd say fourth or fifth. The OT movies take the top three spots, and I haven't seen R1 or ROTS recently enough to say which one I prefer.

Rogue Kino thread.

Yes, that space squid and Bodi was totally unnecessary, as was a lot of the battle scenes in Jedha.

It's alright but I wouldn't say it's better than Last Jedi or even Force Awakens. It had great elements but a lot of it was just so dull and mediocre.

The problem with Star Wars is that the epic tale of good vs. evil, Jedi vs. Sith and the fate of the galaxy has already been told, and they won't do it better than they did in the original trilogy. I'm quite convinced the best use of the Star Wars brand is essentially as window dressing for stories that don't really relate to the existing movies in more than a tangential way.

There's a well established visual canon and lore, which can be used as a setting for a whole host of interesting stories that have absolutely nothing to do with Jedi, Rebels or Empires.

For example, I'd like to see something like a story about a police detective investigating a serial killer in the underlevels of Coruscant. Hard R rating. There's a wonderful seedy underbelly to the Star Wars universe that we don't get to see very much of that could be a brilliant backdrop to any number of stories.

oh, by far.

just finished it. It was much better than I imagined would have been, pretty competent on it own merits, and unlike the sequels, I actually felt something for the characters.

only minor gripes are I'm not sure how i feel about CGI tarkin / leia, (probably overthinking it) the ship crash was a bit too perfect, but I'll let it slide, and the ending seemed just a little rushed to try to get it where new hope starts.

Bodi wasn't too bad, could use more of a reason why he betrayed the empire though.

Still, despite what little screen time Bodi got he comes off as a more convincing imperial turncoat then oh say, Finn.

At least they got the Star Wars universe right. The space/land battle at the end was fairly well done. Compare that to how JJ’s hacks have done space combat.

Oh Bodi was fine, they just could've not done that specific bit with his capture and interrogation, it adds nothing.

...

The droid had the most character out of anyone in the movie.

I agree. I like it more than ROTJ (even though ROTJ has twilek whores which we will never get to see in Star Wars ever again since phonies latched onto our franchise)

Wow, I'm amazed every time I read R1 threads and see people putting it anywhere near the top, the movie was such a piece of shit. The rest of star wars movies are not the best kind of movies, hell, I wouldn't even call them good, but R1 was a complete waste of time.

Jedha City is my favorite SW setpiece.

Where can I find these by themselves?

Nice, the aesthetics are actually reminiscent of the Lucas films.

Even the quips were better.

Rogue One was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

They paid a lot of attention to those sets and it shows.

That imperial tank for example was actually a real tank with some sci fi bits fitted on. They were driven by actual tank crew since you couldn't exactly let stage hand drive a 13 ton tank around on set safely.

You have to admire Krenik though. He decided to build the archives on Hawaii. Smart move.

I couldn't even finish it because it was just so god damn fucking boring.

It just felt so damn lifeless.

Can you link a picture? I haven't seen R1 but I have a severe case of tank autism and I'd like to see if I can guess what they used. Also worth mentioning a real tank is not going to weight 13 tons, for example an M1A2 Abrams weighs roughly 5 times that.

Heh.

The movie.

Young fool…

...

...

well obviously, I was just asking if there was an archive of these somewhere

The third act on the island planet was very boring somehow. An uninteresting setting that went on too long. And once you realized everyone was going to die it sort of took the wind out of it.

>why couldn't disney just had made "star wars stories" and left the trilogy alone?

Unironically this is all I wanted and woudl be completely happy with. But nooo, got to ape the original movies because it's what's familiar with people, what sells.

Fuck that beach planet was the coolest location in any star wars movie. What a fantastic ending. I just wish Jyn wasn't an unambiguous good guy.

>But nooo, got to ape the original movies because it's what's familiar with people, what sells.

Eeeeeh, well it WAS.

Now TLJ is struggling to keep up with RO.

>boring ass one hour battle where every scene bland together
>non-threatening vilains
>everyone get an heroic sacrifice which make their death cheap and predictable
>huur let's destroy our archives full of our soldiers and unique documents instead of shooting the thiefs.

It was shit.

>13 tons
>real tank
what did he mean by this?

So apparently it's one of these

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvis_Stormer

Which wasn't something I recognized, because it's not a tank. That said you were right about it weighing 13 tons. I don't know if that was a guess or not but if it was bravo.

Gotta love the Star Wars affectation for British equipment.

Amazing user, thanks so much

It's shot really nicely and it's an okay story, but I don't give a shit about it otherwise. Also, while I like the U-Wing, I fucking hate how it's now being put into other new, OT-era media, like how Battlefront 2's story mode (which is canon) has U-Wings in use post-Endor.

this guy made the film.

All his scenes were good. As for the rest of rogue one? delete the chink/indian people whose names we cant remember, totally useless characters, wasted screen time.

You idiot, Tarkin wanted Krennic and his meddling out of the way and he got an excuse to do it.

Felicity’s butt was kino

Eadu scenes looked amazing

And that shot of the huge fallen jedi in the sand on jeddah

Look you missed this

They needed an airborne troop carrier since the very beginning.

It was a very well made movie it might not cater to your star wars manchild attitudes but it's a good movie not a good star wars movie necessarily

His voice is kino

youtu.be/YoaUjUCQbMo

Krennic is /fa/ as a motherfucker and it is a shame he won't appear again.

Diego Luna is gonna be in Narcos with Michael Pena next season by the way

youtu.be/MJGkm0UwNRk

cgi tarkin also made it until 4 seconds when his mouth goes weird

Do you feel in charge?

If I had any friends I'd go out on Halloween dressed as Krennic.

They made the smart decision of having a dedicated comic relief character. It has the beneficial effects of both making K2 actually funny and distinct, and making it so the rest of the cast can be more serious and don't have to make a stupid remark every other line to meet Disney's quip quota.

The cast of Rogue One really works and no one feels out of place. Diversity isn't an issue when it feels like Predator where everyone has their own skill set, motivation and is distinctive from each other.

He's like a British HK47. Really was a no brainer type of character to put into a Star Wars movie. Much better than BB8.

Was reshot to shit, but still better than TFA and TLJ.

Good taste, user.
Merry christmas.

The only problem with R1 is the characters weren't fleshed out enough. I didn't know or care about 99% of the characters and there were a few jarring moments of inconsistency

Why didn't they just have him play Tarkin? Who gives a fuck about the age difference continuity at this point

Good question. I assume it's because some of the guys at ILM who were behind this were ANH veterans and wanted to make it as a tribute to him.

I hated rogue one at first as with all nu-star wars material, but I am gaining some appreciation for it despite the obsessively multicultural cast.
Maybe it's just because it doesn't have as much dumb unnecessary shit as the last jedi.
Still not a good movie, but as
said, it does indeed have a more authentic style that is definitely reminiscent of Lucas's film-making.

He could've been funnier though. I wish they'd had somebody punch up his jokes.

They had enough material to make it a miniseries and it suffers from not being able to explore it.

R1 seems way more serious and authentic feeling than TFA and TLJ. I couldn’t stop cringing at all the shitty forced humour in both of those.

what is the point of that when you could make your own world and not be restricted by someone else's? It would have to tie in with one of the characters somehow or there's no real point in using the sw brand

there was TOO MANY characters for 1 film. Get rid of the chink/british indian beard man and you get to flesh out the rest

>already better than The Last Jedi
it's better than both VII and VIII put together, yet it's still barely better than EpII

his interrogation shows that the rebels are just as fucked up as the empire

>disney did not create and elite operator rebel unit movie, where they are shown to help the rebellion in the sidelines, unsung heroes, who play important parts, but never get a the real credit while shit like rey get all the credit.

The characters were boring and the plot was dumb, but at least you can appreciate how fucking beautiful and well shot that movie was. R1 makes 7 and 8 look like a tv series. If anything it made me look forward to the next Edwards movie.

>no one feels out of place
except for the shoehorn chinks

>Why didn't they just have him play Tarkin? Who gives a fuck about the age difference continuity at this point
because The Loser Jedi hadn't destroyed the entire SW lore and canon back then, and people didn't think The Faeces Evacuates would continue its cancerous legacy

I think the attack in Jedha telegraphs that well enough without Fishburne dialing in his ham settings to maximum stun.

boring ass movie

the chinks have SUCH awful taste in films as well. Hollywood knows how to play them like a fiddle.

Blade runner did awful in china yet transformers did great because it had a 30 second scene in shanghai

>getting rid of the Guardians of the Whills
Come on man.

Rouge One was pretty boring, it should have been a straight remake of The Dirty Dozen, with the first half being the training of the rebel troops to infiltrate the base and the second half being the operation progressively getting fucked up beyond all repair. I wanted to see someone hamming it up as an imperial officer. Maybe have one or more of the characters have personality flaws that contribute to their deaths.

Yeah in the fallout from TLJ we've forgotten how much girl power bullshit was really in R1.

Rogue One wasn't terrible but it felt unbelievably bland and boring. It's only better than episodes 1 and 2.
Shoretroopers were cool too, I guess.

At the very least it made the rebels look like a bunch of poorly led retards that would've been decimated instantly without Luke and Han.

Watched it 3 days ago and had exactly same thought as you do OP. I was almost shocked that he somehow looked like a Star Wars movie.

Beautiful shots, decent acting, various places, small "pauses" between action sequence...

Obviously there's still some goofy stuff, fan service is strong, "strong independent female character" as usual but it FEELS like a movie.

How the FUCK did they screw up that much the main trilogy if they can actually do that ? Will remain a mystery to me.

Cgi tarkin completely ruined the movie on the big screen. I couldn't take the movie seriously at all after that

Agree,

I still prefer VI to R1 though. There's too much amazing stuff in VI to put it below R1.

Why not just put him on a hologram? Like, what the fuck were they thinking showing him in flat lighting?
