How much has Sup Forums destroyed your passion for comics and cartoons?

How much has Sup Forums destroyed your passion for comics and cartoons?

None at all. If anything it had made me read comic and watch cartoons more.
Discussing them however its another story.

I dont know what to think of Sup Forums to be honest, whether they're genuinely honest or they just like nitpicking, makes me realize why cartoonists dont really communicate with the fandom all that much

The only thing it destroyed was my view of fans and communities.

Seconding this.

Not more than those cartoons did.

This guy gets it.

Truth.

These two.

>makes me realize why cartoonists dont really communicate with the fandom all that much
This was less of Sup Forums's direct fault and more or Sup Forums showing me how terrible shit gets when fans start to influence the creator.

Another problem: fans feeling entitled, no matter if they pay or pirate.

Yep

Comics and cartoons destroyed my passion for comics and cartoons.

this

Not really my passion but I pretty much NEED a TalkBack thread or a storytime to enjoy a new cartoon or comic respectively.

By introducing me to great stuff I never would have come across otherwise, like Moebius, Hellboy, the more obscure 2000AD stories like Shakara, etc, it's only strengthened and mantained it. For all the shitposting and various other forms of crap, I still believe Sup Forums is the best place to talk Comics on the internet. People generally know their shit, they're willing to give anything a look and see the good in it (I can't imagine anywhere else seeing Serenity as anything more than a 1 note joke) and storytimes allow for informed discussion since everyone can read the book.

>People generally know their shit, they're willing to give anything a look and see the good in it
Shitposting.

Not at all. Marvel did it.

They didn't because Sup Forums's opinion doesn't matter at all.

Sup Forums is pretty hit or miss when it comes to discussion and I've learned to avoid threads that aren't actually about discussing specific comic or cartoons. I also don't partake in any threads about MCU, DC tv shows, or anything like that.

Recs and Story Time's are still strong. Honestly Sup Forums helped me discover a lot of cape and non cape comics that I enjoy.

It both helped and detracted from it.
The first time I came here was around 2007. The environment here was different then, and considerably less negative--I found the community so likable that I got more into Sup Forums-material to interact with the people here.
While current Sup Forums has developed a more critical eye (for better or for worse, depending on how needlessly nitpicky and "people shouldn't enjoy what I don't enjoy" some anons get) it's still addicting to discuss your favorite material here.
I try not to let a cancerous fandom affect my enjoyment of something too much, but sometimes it can be a bit harder than I'd like to admit.

...

>/mcu/
Fixed.

Much like: It hasn't. It's only made it stronger, better, and more passionate, honestly. Information here moves fast, there's so many cartoons I would have never even glanced at if not for this place. Hell, this is probably one of the only cartoon websites where I can actually find people who will say that Pickle and Peanut is a funny show.

The shitposting on Reddit, ToonZone, CartoonBrew, or whatever other place is absolutely insufferable, because people had to make fucking accounts just to spout out those thoughts and sometimes the posts work on a rating system making the whole thing either a circlejerk or a popularity contest. But here? Someone shitposts, they're anonymous, who cares, it's easy to spot and easy to ignore and there's so many other people who participate in threads with a variety of opinions, I can overlook it.

Also the amount of fan content Sup Forums can push out sometimes it astounding, and I've actually found myself participating in a lot of it. I'm also a generally angry person myself who hates most things, so hanging out in a group of people who feel the same way ends up making me slightly more laid-back and more likely to give stuff a chance.

Marvel killed my passion for cape comics.

>I'm also a generally angry person myself who hates most things, so hanging out in a group of people who feel the same way ends up making me slightly more laid-back and more likely to give stuff a chance.

07 is the time of Sup Forums is love. It still is, it is just buried below levels of shitposts and stop liking what I don't like posts.

Indeed. We'll behere when they move onto the next gentrification project.

What was your view before Sup Forums?

I remember being a fan of Sonic way back in 2005 and people were still loud-mouth, entitled, whiny little cunts who did things like calling the Sonic X dub total shit, blowing their lid at what an awful idea Shadow the Hedgehog was when it was revealed, wanting to start an online petition about something for Sonic Team, etc.

All this while the owner of the side frequently drew Sonic/Shadow porn art and people getting in game wars with, "Sonic CD is the best, Heroes is shit" etc.

Oh wasn't talking about Sup Forums by the way, talking about a Sonic fan forum.

The circlejerk nature of other websites tends to kill a lot of comic discussion. Here there's still plenty of circlejerk, but if you post a dissenting opinion you won't be immediately pushed to the bottom. Sure some people will call you out for baiting, but its still out there for other people to see and discuss.
For that reason alone I'd still say co is the best place to discuss comics. If only because every side of the argument is allowed.

Fans are normies from the perspective of artists. They have no real understanding of how things are put together or work, but feel they should have a say in how it all goes.
Any time a gimp interacts with an artists they say something stupid.

Sup Forums says what I think with most shitty comics, though it's comic companies themselves which made me stop buying this shit.

It's introduced me to things I may not have read or watched on my own. I think that I read "From Hell" the first time here when someone storytimed it.

>golden age Sup Forums
>more positive energy
>a time before Sup Forums vs SJW shitfests
I always look back on it fondly, but I wonder how much of it's due to nostalgia goggles sometimes.

The comics side of Sup Forums is too casual for me to take seriously.

fuck man that's some truth

Sup Forums has only cultivated it

It has shown me so many things I can't even begin to count them. When I arrived here I only knew about DH's Star Wars comics, Marvel, and Moebius / Jorodowsky and El Eternauta. Half the comics I had where translated by Peruvians on some shitty forum.

This board's influence got me into all manner of comics: Franco-Belgian comics ranging from cutesy comedies to experimental storytelling, generations of indie comics, early cape stuff, proto-comics, comic strips and political cartoons, webcomics, a plethora of stuff.

And I think, the most important part: It got me to read -about- comics. I didn't even care who was behind what and could barely name artists. I would have never known who was behind some industry defining trends if it weren't for Sup Forums. Would have never learned about the CCA or Moebius' influence on the french and Japanese scenes, nor of Go Nagai and other greats like Steranko and Gotlib. Wouldn't have known who was behind major publishing companies nor even had a concept of economic and historic side of things. Here I got to talk with some interesting names and even get in contact with creators.

All in all, despite all the drama and incessant waifu shit, this board marked an after and before for my horizons and understanding of the medium.

I don't have a passion for comics, though I do enjoy them. Sup Forums hasn't made me hate comics in the same way Sup Forums tries to make you hate games. People that browse Sup Forums have a fair and balanced perspective. They aren't afraid to call out bullshit, but not in a way that feels like people are being bitter for the sake of being bitter.

Are you implying Sup Forums has the ability to destroy my passion for comics and cartoons compared to:
>Marvel comics becoming full SJW with shit art
>Cartoonnetwork cancelling everything for YOUR NEW FAVORITE SHOW
>Nickelodeon passing up Modifiyers and Adventure Time for Fanboy & ChumChum and Breadwinners
>Disney pushing all cartoons off their main channel and on XD where they then started putting live-action shit on anyway
>Minions makes $1 bil but Kubo fails
>"I didn't vote, I stopped caring about animation when I was 7" "Chinese fucking things" Academy voters

This, BUT I will admit, Sup Forums's inept rambling has made me question why I enjoy the things I enjoy. Thus, it's made me a more mindful/critical consumer. Which is just cool, because I look harder for motifs and themes I agree/disagree with, and appreciate things that I might forget if I were just mindlessly feasting on a comic/cartoon series, volume by volume, season by season.

What a circlejerk of a thread.

It hasn't. I just steer clear of discussion. I like Steven Universe, but I know better than to participate in any of the threads.

>get into comics to participate in Sup Forums
>realize Sup Forums is full of faggot manchildren who like playing pretend teenagers online
>abandon board after $150 in comic purchases

Thanks a lot dickholes

>purchasing comics
>ever

I bet you thought your sales influenced what books stayed on, didn't you?

>>realize Sup Forums is full of faggot manchildren who like playing pretend teenagers online
I thought that was the entire point of the internet.
Fuck.

none

its the creators and DC/Marvel decisions that are doing that...

I hear a lot of complaints about Marvel, but what don't you like about DC?

Nope, it gave me a better appreciation for them.

this. Although Marvel comics have a high amount of random sjw agenda in them, the fanbase is much, much worse.

>The only thing it destroyed was my view of fans and communities.

It's true.

Not him but both cape companies have been just regurgitating basic themes and story concepts for years. Rebirth has been aggressively mediocre and this whole company war Sup Forums does between DC's middling comics versus Marvel's shit comics is insane.

...

combined with con horror stories I'm a bit afraid to start doing freelance work.

I still like cartoons just as much as when I was a child.
Problem is there just aren't that many around anymore worth watching.

Though Sup Forums ruined me forever when it comes to internet communication. It's hard to tell people on tumblr not just to "kys faggot"

None.
I love comics, especially old ones made by Jews and wops.

Sup Forums is a mediocre site. Forums, despite being oldschool are much higher quality

Ignited even further with recommendations like clone high, the critic, mission hill, undergrads, the Men in black cartoon, invincible, east of west, Godzilla the half century war, world war kaiju, American Virgin, The exterminators

Almost all of my favourite books came from Sup Forums's recommendations. Really got me into the meat of comics books and brought up a lot of hidden gems of cartoons I never would have known about.

>I try not to let a cancerous fandom affect my enjoyment of something too much, but sometimes it can be a bit harder than I'd like to admit.
I generally enjoy discussion on Sup Forums when it's something niche and not particularly popular and the threads have a small number of posters.

There's a direct correlation between how popular something gets and how shit the threads become. It's impossible to avoid those cancerous elements of the fandom when things get popular because you can't have a thread without them showing up. And then the fucking contrarians show up and derail the threads into total shitposting (usually along the lines of calling something "tumblr" "reddit" "CalArts" or whatever new buzzword will get the most people to take the bait) and threads just descend into circlejerking and bait and no actual discussion any more.

But Sup Forums got me into comics

Pretty much all of it

>$150

That's not that much you whiny faggot.

You_Are_Now_Leaving_America.jpg

nothing at all because i'm not an easily influenced teenager.

None, it's only destroyed my interest in the average internet conversations based on them. With the level of discourse you can expect, you'd think everyone got lost on their way to either Sup Forums or the soft core pornography board.

Tpbp

>it's only destroyed my interest in the average internet conversations based on them

This. You people are fucking stupid but I also want to stick around to see what stupid shit you do next

You think Sup Forums is bad? Drop by Sup Forums sometime it's like going to a fucking Klan rally, I've been to white power web sites that are more subtle.

Also Sup Forums is sucking lately, mostly because no one talks about anything new at all, I used to come here to discover shit from time to time, but now like most of Sup Forums it seems to have devolved into "don't you hate how a thing plus niggers, sjw, the Jews, obvious trolling, it's just bait but everyone will take it?" Just over and over again. I honestly don't know why I still waste time here, maybe it's the brain tumor...

>Just went on Sup Forums
>First thread I see is a pic of dicks
Do the mods just not care anymore?

>Someone shitposts, they're anonymous, who cares, it's easy to spot and easy to ignore
Well yeah especially when it's 90% of all posts

You're in the wrong threads if that's the case.

Like, yeah, no shit when someone starts a thread with OK KO picture saying, "Let's get this cartoon banned" it's going to be one shitpost thread. Or starting a thread with, "Is Synder the most kino director of all time?" knowing full well how divided opinions are of him.

But I've seen plenty of threads that, when started the right way, aren't turned to total shit.

None for Comics.
A little for cartoons.
I' am honestly on the verge of becoming one of those people that think Sup Forums themed movies and shows should be forced over to Sup Forums.

And it seems really obvious to me the more a thread is less mainstream less popular media related the more enjoyable, easy going, polite it is.

It made me realize that this board cycles from seeing a new thing and sucking its dick from seeing a single promo image alone, saying it's the greatest thing ever created, to inevitably loathing it and despising it and calling it utter garbage at some point after it starts airing. Characters go through this, too. If they are a cameo or very brief appearance they're goat but once they've had actual screentime they're shit. This happens over and over.

Sup Forums only really likes the personal idea of something they create in their head that often has little to do with the real thing. It has a very short attention span and FotW really means FotW. It turns quickly and easily on its darlings.

I'm not sure if this is all a negative thing, indulging in this week's flash in the pan is fine and venting about how much it sucks the next week is also fine. But I'm realizing I get irritable every time I see the cycle start anew with that new panflash flashing all over the catalog soon to turn to bile and venom. I've been coming here on and off for a decade and it keeps happening over and over again. It's made me very cynical and irritable about fandom.

I can't stand unbridled positivism anymore.

Definitely this.
