Sing's not that kind of movie. To me, it felt more like a callback to classic MGM musicals- the point of the movie was to use it as a vehicle for singing and dancing numbers featuring headliners, the plot was always very much secondary to that.

Sing is pretty much what Zootopia would have been, if it was made by Illumination and aimed at a much younger audience.
Almost every single character is a stereotype of their animal, and like 80% of the movie's comedy comes from "LOL LOOK AT THEM DO ANIMAL THINGS XD", there are literally fart jokes in the movie, the story drags on and on and on and on with tons of boring filler scenes, the story in general is fairly generic and straight-forward, the character design is all over the place with some designs looking nice while others are horribly exaggerated and cartoony, some animals are anthro while others aren't, and the whole thing just feels like "America's Got Talent: Furry Edition".

I've only seen the IHE video about it, but he spent a good while ranting about the fact that there was zero comedy about them being animals in it. What's up with that?
The difference is that Singing in the rain was about saving a company by adapting to the new medium they were faced with. It had a cohesive singular plot with great characters that were solid.
Sing is a shitty attempt at that, done at the lowest cost with the broadest reach for an audience.

The crocodile thing for two minutes straight is just pure salt. He puts it like every other animated movie doesn't recycle assets or do special things all the time , which is clearly true.
I agree with him on the "why are they animals , they do human things" though.While I don't really like Zootopia , they got the part of being animals to be a diegetic thing (to the point of being plot relevant) on the movie, but in Sing the closest thing they have is the gorillas ( and the fucking racism that puts into the movie)
It's it's only series, I believe. But the first one is the best to come out.

Pan is literally one of the best analysis critics of this decade. His greatness is up there with Red Letter Media, Jeremy Johns, Roger Ebert, Gene Shalit, and Double Toasted/Spilled.

Probably because, if this story was about humans, it would be less appealing to kids. But if they made the world just like Zootopia, it would ruin the realistic and relatable feel Sing is trying to present.
They DO allow some animal-focused traits to get by, though: Rosita having a lot of kids, Johnny's dad's strength, Mike nearly being eaten by the mafia bears, Ash's quills, and the one giraffe not being picked because of how hard it would be for him to hear Buster.

Visually Zootopia is impressive. And yes Illumination movies look cheap, i've noticed that since their first movie, why is that bad. I don't get it there is this constant trend where, if is popular or for masses it MUST be bad. They make movies with a tight budget as so the guys from Ice Age, this guy complains just for the sake of complaining, for someone that hates Sup Forums is uncanny the similarity. The movie has a weak story and presentation but the music is what the movie is about and the songs are good. Other thing he says that disney movies characters are animals for a purpose then he must explain Lion King, because that plot works without animals, and that my friends is just pure salt.

No, but Zootopia definitely isn't the genius film everyone claims it is. Let this meme die. And while I understand simpler designs are more marketable, at the same time I unironically kinda like Illumination's style. People say they have none but they look kinda retro to me. And despite having such a low budget, Illumination's recent films look visually great to me graphically. Sing in particular actually had some great cinematography I wouldn't expect from a film like it. I think their real problem is no real desire to do something groundbreaking. If they actually applied themselves I think they could have a really good film on their hands. But that's just me.
Also, for whatever reason, Kojima loves both Zootopia and Sing. Not really sure why, it's not like they really broke new ground.
