Not mentioned outright but a newspaper article about President Luthor filled the entire screen in the first episode and Ron mentioned "winning the election but not the popular vote" being linked to super villainy. Obviously we know what that refers to but in-universe it's Luthor.
But yeah it wasn't something that affected the characters much.
