i know that general public reception of this was lukewarm, but what did monster movie fans think?

Entertaining.
needed more kubrick references/10
John C. Reilly was the best part.
The movie itself felt like a good videogame with cutscenes. Not a bad thing, but I had to remind myself it was a movie a few times during it. I'm not talking just about CGI here, but also the story and very much the camerawork. There was a videogame feel to it all.
Still... 6.5/10 for me. Not bad. Not bad at all.
It was jewed up like most movies now.
I loved it. It's unambitious but pretty much flawless in execution in my book.
It needed more of the pissed off ape. And more King Kong too.
Reception was positive though
THE absolute BEST giant monster fights in the genre
Everything else surrounding the fights is average though
Pretty cookie cutter desu
Liked Peter Jackson's better by far
Comfy adventure movie. I like the less human design of Kong in the movie of 2005 better, but this was still pretty cool. I wasn't expecting much too. 6/10
i think the ambition was somewhere there. it felt like they wanted to go harder on the weirdness and
'psychedelic 70s' period setting of the movie, but were held back by studio interference.
A SITH LAWD?
Americans suck at kaiju movies, that's all. Even Pacific Rim was inferior to Japanese kaiju movies.
it was decent
why did that dude with the AK die so pointlessly at the end?
Yeah when the protag was slicing and dicing some giant bugs with a machete while the green gas was surrounding him it felt like I was watching a fun third person action game.
IT
should have been a direct rip off of apocalypse now with king kong replacing kurtz
AINT
False. Also the BEST thing about any Jap kaiju movies was the Americans in them. All the way up to Don Frye in Final War. You can try to prove me wrong but I will strike you down with my superior Nippon steel folded over a thousand times if you do.
This.
...
Merely OK entertainment.
I think people would appreciate it more if it wasn't called Kong, it was a pretty good monster flick otherwise.
Giant animals eating people:the movie. But it was allright.
I liked it until they set up a 50 cal on top of a Triceratops skull. Then I loved it. I did want them to subvert my expectations by killing off the hippy photographer, but it was a bridge too far.
ME
I loved Samuel L Jackson’s character how he was just pissed off at Kong and wanted to murder him
I'm not a monster movie fan still never seen the original godzilla or kong but I thought it was a ton of fun. Characters are thin but just sketched out enough to make an impression, and it's a shamelessly silly movie, unlike the dirge Godzilla was.
