What are the best sci-fi cartoons?

Sci-fi seems to have either been completely co-opted by capeshit in cartoons or is completely ignored. What are some good sci-fi cartoons?

The fact that there are no responses to this makes me sad.

smol samus is cute

Sym Bionic Titan
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command
Samurai Jack
Dexter's Laboratory
Invader Zim

If you don't mind cape mixed with science fiction, I recommend Batman Beyond

The first two are really the only ones I would consider true sci-fi, but I at least appreciate the response.

GIVE ME MY SAMUS CARTOON

Samurai Jack and Invader Zim I definitely wouldn't put on that list. One is far more magic shit and standard sword fights than any actual science fiction and the other is a completely retarded comedy.

Can clone wars be considered sci fi?

I really don't know why Nintendo doesn't make cartoons anymore. I get their previous attempts were hilarious at best, but that was back in the fucking 80s when every cartoon was a joke, and they have some solid IPs that would make amazing cartoons if done correctly.

I would say yes, though Star Wars is almost its own genre at this point.

I don't think metroid would translate well into a cartoon. You can't really capture the sense of exploration that you can in a video game. It'd have to be quite different to the games in order to work.

have some Mignola Samus

Why can't she explore in a cartoon?

It wouldn't work as a full series but a set of shorts of basically just music videos full of scenery porn would work wonderfully

The exploration is fun because you (the player) are the one doing the exploring. Watching Samus just wander around shooting stuff would be boring. There would need to be some kind of additional narrative stuff to make it interesting.

Of course there would be narrative! Space is a big place ripe for all sorts of stories.

Futurama

It's not a cartoon but it's choc full of Jim Henson creatures, and puppetry is a form of animation, s I'm going to strongly recommend Farscape to you.

if the visuals + music are on point you don't actually need much of a narrative to carry attention

this is honestly what I want. A short of telling Samus' past would be wonderful.

Okay, now that could be cool.

Animated by studio trigger

Didn't she get raised by birdmen

Yes, birdmen so aloof they forgot to breed and went extinct due to underpopulation.

She was adopted by Birdmen while a child

I wonder what Samus' thoughts on pet birds are

That's not Mignola. It's a pixiv artist named old willow.

>if the visuals + music are on point you don't actually need much of a narrative to carry attention
But you do to get a sense of exploration. The Metroid games have that because they have world maps, so you're actually discovering things that are in those places, and they're all part of the larger world.

A cartoon wouldn't have that; the audience would just see Samus going down corridors or through the wilderness. Even if the writers have a "world map" planned out in their heads, it doesn't give the audience the same experience because they don't have a reason to care.

A narrative would help translate the feeling of exploration and discovery from the games to the cartoons. If the characters encounter something and the audience believes it's there for a reason and will matter for more than one episode, then it gives a stronger sense that you're discovering another part of a larger world, rather than just seeing an isolated story.

k thx it was mistagged

Make it like Samurai Jack before the revival, it can work.

THIS.

Though I do admit I would prefer an anime over a cartoon. Then again the upcoming Netflix Castlevania series is a cartoon yet is basically like an anime so IDK.

I care more about getting to see cool scenes of Samus being a fucking badass and killing space pirates and hostile alien lifeforms (like in the video I linked) desu . Not saying that exploration isn't important though.

>Yes, birdmen so aloof they forgot to breed and went extinct due to underpopulation.

So like Pandas but even more lazy?

Not lazy, cause they did make her kickass armor. I think they canonically just got so busy with other shit they didn't have time to fuck.

At Nintendo's annual shareholder Q&A, Miyamoto stated they want to make animes for Pikmin, Star Fox, Yoshi as well as other characters. So we could possibly get a Metroid anime short or series in the future.

I'll withhold my excitement till we have more to go on than a tweet, but this is interesting news.

She looks almost like a Baby

How old do you think she was when she got the power armor? Does it grow with her or was there an adorable 12 year old Samus running around in 6 foot tall power armor?

Read the Metroid manga.

Is that the one that actually shows Ridley brutally murdering her parents? I *should* read that, it's been forever...

That 80s hair.

Samus is always cute.

Duck Dodgers.

Not with those feet.

if they weren't attached to shit games or done with awful dubbing companies, we'd probably get something good out of Nintendo's IPs

...

>no Kreatz
>no Mauk
>not even Anthony
it's like they want the metroids to live

I HATE ZERO SUIT SAMUS STOP SEXUALIZING HER I JUST WANT ART OF COOL SAMUS NOT SEXY SAMUS ARRGHHH

Even when she's having a panic attack clad in only fetish-wear?

Reminder that the creator of the franchise is just another George Lucas.

...

The new Voltron series is pretty damn good. Though the fanbase is terrible.

Why does the gym wear that shows off most of her body seem so much less... (Objectifying? Blatantly Fanservicy?) than the Zero Suit they keep forcing into all of Metroid media nowadays?

Well skintight outfits are already generally associated with fetish wear and sexiness.

Those Goddamned Heels...

>Science team has vapor for brains.

Just give me a SoL show about Samus being raised by bird dads.

>Not a show about the Space Pirates.

...

>Half the show is cute kid Samus's SoL
>The other half is hapless, scatterbrained pirates who accidentally unleash vague threats that Samus can defeat for CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

It really shows how good cartoons often get forgotten. ExoSquad was great, but let's not forget about:

Wing Commander Academy
Starcom: The U.S. Space Force
Ulysses 31
Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys (despite the title it had some great sci-fi premises)

Maybe even The New Adventures of He-Man and Bucky O'Hare (for most of my life I though it was a Jazz Jackrabit cartoon).

>Using a Metroid as a jetpack.
Okay that is hilarious.

Those are all science fantasy, not science fiction.

Science team is kinda scary when you think about it

An ethic-less group of mad scientists with the full support and funding of an interstellar nation

Not really sure if it's sci-fi but Wander over Yonder is a pretty funny show with a really entertaining and likeable villain.

Probably not considered sci-fi like OP's looking for, but I can attest that WoY is gold anyway.

>Sup Forums you possess great stupidity, welcome to the Phazon Corps.

This Samus Aran

Her neck looks extremely long to me.

This is a stripper who is known by the name Zero Suit.

This is Samus saving Zero Suit after Zero had a nervous breakdown

This is Samus saving a "baby"

She's the one who set fire to the maternity ward, by the way.

She was raised and genetically altered by bird people, of course she has a swan-neck.

This is how Samus's suit works. There is no bird magic that turns her to pure energy or dislocates her shoulders.

Zero suit was a mistake.

What about specifically when she turns into a tiny ball

...

Bird magic / pym particles, but they only work when the suit is spherical.

>We will never get Samus meeting Space Knight Venom

>creator
>...Sakamoto?
Nigga, what are you talking about?

Well I was thinking of Samus teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy but your idea sounds good too.

I really love the concept of Exo Squad but I need to see it again. I haven't since I was a kid.

Men in Black was great. Roughnecks probably aged like milk.

You're talking about a race that literally replaced their hands with guns

I love how many of the Space Pirate logs are them being utterly baffled by how Samus does any of the shit that she does.

I'm pretty sure those lobster claw cannons come off, otherwise they'd have no way to interact with most of their own technology based on what you see of it

They literally open all their doors by shooting them.

the average guy is not 5'6" do not listen to manlet lies

Seriously, 5'9" is average, didn't even notice that. The average *woman* is about 5'6"

Star Wars is science fantasy.

No, it's space opera.

It looks like this thread got derailed by its own OP image.

Ignoring Invader Zim and Samurai Jack I am going to say Hulk and The Agents of SMASH. Then again I'm from /m/ so take that what you will.
Science action, fantasy elements are limited to midichlorians.

>Metroid cartoon/anime never ever
